Yeah... I have heard about those St. Louis guys! Going through the twisties at near light speed... and casually reaching up to adjust a mirror or reach down and drag their fingers against the pavement. ...all while making it look soooooo easy. I wish I could run up to speed with that crowd. I... now at near 50... thinking if I knew I would live this long... would have taken better care of myself! Thinking... "It's all fun and games until someone breaks a hip!"

I'd love to make one of those trips... to bring up the rear... and hope no one gets tired of waiting for Pokie to catch up.

I also have to time it right... for a weekend my son is with his mother... and I can actually afford the expense of gasoline... I love my XB9S... but do you know how tired a guy can get pushing it through the twisties with no gas???

I many times now regret not getting to be better friends with all the bankruptcy judges... wouldn't ya know... the one I used to shoot with had to up and die! At least the Chief Judge is a bud of mine... another shooting buddy... but he can't help me with my avoiding bankruptcy. I have been in a situation after my divorce and some nagging health problems that money is tight... as in too much month left at the end of the money. Or as I often put it... I have one foot in bankruptcy court... and the other on a banana peel!! I make a great effort to stay up with all the bills... and am gaining on them enough to get the Buell... but am beginning to think... that if I owe a ton of money still when I die... HEY... I won!!! Sharon keeps pointing out flaws with that... just bury me with my XB9S!!!

It is not all Sam's fault... I hunted down Sam after seeing his XB9R at KCIR... after watching him drag. I was corrupted by him early on... Sam is my hero!!!!! :-)

DaveS,
not for me just yet, stay tuned and ride safe, hahahahahaha

Tripper,
"Let's see, up on one wheel.... that would be.... " If my memory serves me correctly that statement should have ended with a "mirror, mirror on my bars who's the wheeliest by far!"

Keith,
as to my reputation, I think it's safe to say that the LE community around here knows of me! This one's for you Dennis!

LEO's have a sense of humor too, sometimes....

Dennis,
Flattery will get you nowhere. Does anyone else see a problem with the radar gun thing? If you start packing a radar gun around on our rides, I may have to find a new group to ride with. I am looking forward to hearing repeatedly "do you know how fast you were going?" or this one: "I clocked you at 87, 94, 62, 108, 79, 114, 43, 16, 71". hahahahaha.......

Not to worry Sam... there are no federal traffic enforcement codes. EXCEPT... on Federal property such as Federal Parks or Military bases. I am not trying to bait you. Now if I tried to lure you on to a military base... and say I got you for over 150 mph... I would get the points I need to get that toaster I have been wanting. A citation for 150+ would get me the points I need!!! It is not paranoia if I really am out to get you Sam. :-) I have seen you ride... you have seen me ride... like I could catch you!! I wish!!! Besides... we could settle out of court with a field collected fine... say your little red machine??? But could you fix it first so the front tire quits flying up in the air??

Hey the radar thing was an idea... I never claimed it was a good idea!!!

You get the red bike and I get the white one??

Keith

I'm really glad I don't own anything at this point that will run 150! hahahahahaa the car doesn't count right? Oh, and it wouldn't be the first time I had been escorted(ie: back seat passenger) to the gates of a military base by the MP's......that's one's a long story! and an even longer walk once they took the cuffs off! As a matter of fact I took a lot of rides with the MP's, the first being at the age of five(some things never change) That one was for wrecking the neighbors car! Don't ask! Oh, there were others.....But I think I'm done with the MP's....well, maybe not? My younger brother is a First Force Recon Marine.....Yeah, I'll probably be seeing them again.

Deputy U.S. Marshal eh? Does anyone else here smell the blooming of a great friendship? why do I keep hearing TAPS?

Keith, I just thought of it.....Nick's quote from the weekend.......

F. U. P. A. pronounced "foo-pa" short for Fat Upper Pussy Area......stealth name for the pooch! I've been trying to find a covert nickname for that for years!

Sounds to me like you have put your life on the line for ours for the last 27 years. For that you are to be commended!

I think the radar gun sounds like a good idea! I would pay for the good of the group to use it.. I'm pretty sure my speedo is a little off.

Hey Sam...

we LE types have a great sense of humor... it is just that what we think is funny... you non-LE types might not think is so funny.

Example: About a hundred years ago when I was a patrolman for IPD... it was late one night and I was sitting in a lot next to a "T" intersection controlled by a stop sign. Mind you... I was not looking for some unsuspecting citizen to bust the stop sign... I was just minding my own business killing time waiting for shift to end. I hated writing tickets!! This car full of teenagers pull up to the stop sign... the driver power brakes the car to do a burn out... all is well... I am watching this thinking... couldn't they have picked some other spot to do this... I want to be alone!!! Just as the tires just start to spin... the u-joint explodes in a shower of sparks... that makes most 4th of July displays look lame. I recognize the car belonging to a neighborhood girl... being driven by her younger brother. I pull out... no head lights... quiet and slow as I could, trying to not get noticed... I get about 6 feet from the rear bumper... and turn every light I can find on the patrol car all at the same time... I could hear the eye balls click as they all turn around... and get the "oh shit" look on their faces. I walk up to the drivers door... and say... "Having some car problems are you?" Trying not to bust out laughing... He turns pale... asks me if he is going to jail... I say no... I was just going to ask if he might need a tow truck. I remind him I know his sister... he turns even more pale... and I tell him... "You don't have to worry about me... but your sister loves this car and she might kill you." I am not going to take you to jail... you are not going to get off that easy. From what I heard later... he was lucky his sister did not kill him... funny thing... I never saw him drive that car ever again... I wonder why???

Of course... there were the times I almost got into shoot outs, both times they had a rifle and I had a revolver... I did not find that amusing at all!!

Sam; If I could get the berries up to snick it into 3rd gear, I'd have ya matched. As it is I'm just a low speed unicyclist. It does suprise the youngsters when they hear/feel/see the old S1 bang into second. Ya gotta love a torque peak at 3K! Now that I think about it, the Corbin has a real nice pocket that would hold my feet real solid if I just....

Dennis, I thought it was funny....don't shoot!

Tripper, careful! I have a lot of family in Atlanta.....actually Snellville and Marietta, I just don't get the bike down there much! how 'bout a loaner? I am a very smooth shifter, wear brake pads exceptionally well, and promise not to put too many miles on it... the front tire that is!

Fuscat, If you're like me you get plenty of chances to tell them how much you appreciate the work they're doing, while they are stuffing you in the back of their cars! j/k dennis hahahahahaha

Tripper...

I have a Garmin on both my bikes... I have used them to see what my top speed was... without worry of doing something stupid like looking at the speedo... and not the road! I know a guy that works for Garmin... I have been told... there is a bit of error in the indicated speed on the GPS due to lag time or how many good satellite signals you may have captured. As you may have noticed... the accurate to X number of feet can vary... depending on signal strength of the satellites received or signal deflection by solid objects prior to being received by the GPS.

BMW has a deal with Garmin for a special internal program... like being able to locate any BMW shop in the world. This guy get a loaner bike from BMW to ride around on and test the GPS to be sure the bike electronics and the GPS electronics play well together... I need that job!!! I was also told that Harley wanted Garmin to do the same for them... BUT... HD had in their contract that Garmin could NEVER work with any other bike company... Garmin told HD to go get screwed... they would be happy to do a special GPS for them... but not at the cost of never being able to do the same for any other bike company. BMW never asked for anything that stupid in their contract... just that these special units were only sold by BMW that has their dealer locations included.

Sam... that is just one of many funny stories. I wish I would have wrote them down as the years passed... then I could have some delusion that someone might want publish them. ...and could write my memoirs when I retire.

Let's see... It was a dark and stormy night...

Sam,

If at all possible I think I'm going to have to take that from you as long as I can find someone to work for me on Sunday. I didn't forget last time you were only a few tenths quicker but I won't be late getting there this time! I'll be sure "Ol Greybones" will be in full battle trim!
