were there any cops on the crest road? Seems like the last several times I was up there it's been out of hand. It seems like you can't even ride on NM 4 thru Jemez Springs anymore without getting pulled over. Both Luis and Eugene (from my work) have gotten pulled over there twice recently for nothing really serious.

They've been pulling over sport bikes little to no reason for months now. Esp. on the Crest road. I got pulled over on 14 for being 5 over a few weeks ago. It was an excuse to look at the paperwork and check my endorsement. He told me that they were out to crack down on the bikes to slow them down.

About two months ago, they spent a day pulling over every bike on the Crest, just to get names, bike make, color, leather colors, and address. They actually told one of the riders it was so that in the future if they ran from them, they would know who to come after.....

I guess with the balloon fiesta going on, most of the cops are pretty busy.
There wasn't ANY cops on the crest road, I went up and down twice.
(trying to keep up with a guy on an XR650 Honda that looked like it was set up for super moto)
The day turned out pretty good, I got back home, and switched to the S3 and then went down along the river. The S3 keeps dying on me, not sure what the deal is, I'm tired of dealing with Santa Fe, going to take it to T-bird and get it fixed right...
Not to mention, parts disappear, or the bike miraculously gets scratched or something broken while there... : (

I'm pretty sure they can't do that. Was it the sheriffs or those park rangers?

It's a shame they feel they have to resort to that, but you have to admit, there ARE alot of crazy riders making a bad name for everyone.
It only takes a few to ruin it for everyone.

I agree that there is a disproportionate number of squids to good riders out there

I heard that it was the sheriffs... We all know that they aren't supposed to do that, but when they pull you over what are you to do at that time???

I know that a few of the riders filed complaints.

I think you can use either, but the blue painters tape seems to be used the most out there.
Kim can probably pipe up and say for sure, she seems to do the most track time around here... : )

I think you are supposed to take the mirrors off too, right?

Maybe I should finally break down and buy those frame pucks. Not that I'm planning on going down, but it would suck if I did and didn't have them.

According to Slaughter the blue painters tape leaves far less mess behind. Looks better IMHO too. Hello New Mexico!

I thought that blue painter's tape worked the best. You don't have to take the mirrors off but it is recommended. If you don't take them off you have to tape them up really well.

No sense leaving them on if you can't see out of them. I may look and see how hard taking the turn signals off is, too.

OK folks, there was a lot of asking for a track day and now there is one, so how about buying some tickets? Anyone not living in Santa Fe can call the shop-505-471-3808 and order over the phone with a credit card and get their tickets mailed. If this doesn't work out, I won't bother again. Too much of a hassle.

So from what I've heard, from people who've sponsored track days before is that most of the tickets will sell the week before.....

But, it would be a real shame if there wasn't a large number of Buells at this thing.

From the sounds of it ya all are going to be lost in a sea of rice.

Where have all the Buell riders gone?

This is a great opportunity to practice. Its better than the street...that's why you have to pay for it.

If you said you wanted a track day...the day has come.

You are soo right, but most people aren't thinking about it the right way.

They are just thinking about how much the ticket to the track costs, instead of how much a ticket on the street is going to cost them.

I mean really think about it, you get caught 10 or more over and that's what 100 bucks. That is more then the cost of the track day

PS: I haven't received my ticket in the mail yet. I paid for it like a week or two ago.

I think that those who are on this site are all going. Except maybe Bart. Doesn't seem like anyone else posts on here that we ride with.

Wow.

I don't disagree that it's like herding cats and you are right that if it doesn't work out, it's nobody's fault but our own.

I don't see how my hinting that maybe you should buy a ticket and come out to ride with us is a sharp jab.

I suspect that from now on I'll have to just avoid "Bart" related conversations. If not, they'll all be misunderstood in the worst possible way, which of course paints me as the instigator, aggressor, , whatever. I don't get it.

What kind of PPE is required for track day beyond a full face helmet? Full leathers, chaps, etc....

Thanks

Rudy-
As far as I know, full coverage protective clothing, leather or textile. Two piece suits need to zip together all the way around. Boots, gloves, full face helmet. We're wearing Fieldshear one piece textile suits. They also have full leathers to rent. Bikes need to be street safe, no leaks, with good tires, no wear bars. Mirrors will need to be removed and lights taped. Tech will give us the low down at 7:30 Sunday AM. I'm bringing blue painters masking tape for the lights. I'll be around Saturday late afternoon after the class is done if you want a ticket or need more info.

Not quite all of us. I wouldn't dare run this bike on the track. It's too fragile for street use. If I had kept the KLR, I would have been out there SuperMotard style.
