How many miles on the bike? Hope it gets better soon without too much dough. Way to pitch in Mark!

Oh it was fun! though i totally forgot to eat dinner till I was done last night, after that I crashed out....but had fun, the real fun is putting it back together, and making sure the gasket surfaces are clean. hopefulyl the machine shop can get it back together and out the door quick.

It's so nice to deal with people who know what they are doing. : ) I called Mikethebike72 this morning and said basically "I need some parts, but I'm not sure exactly what." I now have a parts list and a quote. $141.53 for gaskets/flange/sparkplug/motormount/bolts. If I need a new head, that $288, but I'm off to talk to the machine shop people at lunch, so hopefully I don't have to go that route.

Having the engine apart gives me an excuse to call Cyclerama and ask about upgrade kits. So I call and say "Hi, this is Jim Nance." And they answer back "Hey, I heard you rode the 1125r."

Sporty - Well, the head is at the machine shop (Boyette's recommended Hamiltons.) I've paid for the parts from Ray Price, and while I was there I got Mike to check on the availability of a Vance & Hines.

Am I a bad influence?

The best thing about riding Buells is our community. Since there are so few of us, its easy to keep track of one another. So how did Cyclerama find out about you most awesome 1125R.

I have V&H on the M2 and have always been pleased with it.

U4 - You know, the pictures you took at VIR are much better than the ones from the professional photographer. Yours have soul, while her's are good but lack any personality.

So, I took the day off from work yesterday to go riding with my brother in law (Janis) on his SuperDuke and a buddy of ours (Pete) on a ZZR600 who has only been riding for a few months. Our plan was to leave the Raleigh area at 8am and head West and North into the VA mountains around tuggles gap. It was shaping up to be a nice trip until we encountered this nasty little section of road:

This is NC-66 directly North of Winston-Salem, just a few miles West of Hanging Rock state park, and it's one of the more hairy roads I've come across. It has loads of tight, decreasing-radius corners, many of which are blind, numerous camber changes, and lots of pavement irregularities and mid-corner bumps. I was having fun with the first section without trying to push a quick pace, just being entertained (and kept on my toes) by the constant surprises. Unfortunately, shortly after we crossed NC-268 I realized there were no longer headlights in my mirrors. I pulled over and stopped long enough that the other guys should have caught up, but they never came. I turned around and headed back down the road just a few corners where I found the SuperDuke parked on the side of the road and my two buddies standing in the ditch next to the ZZR. I parked the Firebolt on its anachronistic and poorly-engineered kickstand and walked over to check everything out. It seems that Pete came into the corner a little quicker than expected, got spooked, got into the brakes, and lowsided. We're not sure if he was still on the brakes when he crashed, but there were tire marks and scratches on the road indicating that the bike was definitely down before he ran off the pavement. Fortunately Pete was ok, although he's probably sore today. His riding pants had some road rash, but the gear did its job. Most textile gear is considered to be one time use anyway. His ZZR suffered a rashed and cracked fairing along with a bent fairing bracket and front brake lever, but we were able to tweak things until the bike was ridable again.

We decided to cut the ride short from there, so we headed over to Pilot mountain state park to hang out for a while before grabbing lunch and taking back roads for the ride home. Overall it was a fun day, despite Pete's incident. Pictures are up on these two links:

Spike, I have to agree with you. I have ridden that stretch several times, and it always gives me trouble. I've learned to just take it easy going that way. Glad Pete is okay.

I was recently bicycling those roads. What a great climb up to the parking area at hanging rock. Great roads. Sorry Pete biffed. It's a bad time to be a Pete apparently.

Sorry about Pete. Crashing sucks. Even if you don't get hurt, you ego takes a pretty severe beating.

I see you've been over in the 1125r thread enjoying the kickstand discussions.

I've got a set of track day take-off tires for sale, I figured I'd give you guys first crack at them.

They're Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pro DOT race tires. They came off my brother-in-law's 999, he's done four track days on them at the intermediate level. The front is a 120/70-17, the rear is a 190/55-17 (I think, possibly a 190/50-17). I'd like to get $50 for the pair.

Any takers before I stick them on craigslist?

Having fun in New York. Came up to visit family and spend Kristi's birthday in New York City. We spent most of yesterday around Times Square. The kids had a blast at the Toys-R-Us, Disney Story and FAO Schwartz.

We made the run down to New Jersey for the Liberty HD/Buell open house today. Kristi, Carlee and I got our picture with Erik. When we got to the dealership, Court asked me if we were in a white Suburban. They saw the Buell sticker and magnet on the back of the truck as they pulled onto the interstate and took pictures of us. They tried to catch up to wave at us. On a track Erik can run circles around me, but trying to catch a Puerto Rican in New York traffic is another story.

I am glad that the weather forecasters in New York are as good as the ones at home. They said zero chance of rain today, so it only rained half the day. It finally stopped long enough for me to get my first ride on a TT, nice bike. I like the new motors. For some reason they do appear to run smoother even though the one I was on kept coding. They told me to ride it and the bike ran fine. One problem I have when traveling on the bike is my short legs cause my inner thighs to rub on the edges on the seat. After 250 miles they are pretty sore. The TT seat and Lightning pegs did not have the same problem. The bike was comfortable on the rough roads of New Jersey. The TT suspenders were great too. They were as good as the Uly to me. The bike in general was comfortable but the lower bars were not as comfortable, though probably better for throwing the bike around. Unfortunately all the roads near Liberty are Urban so no testing of the handling. One advantage was the reach, much better than the Uly. That inch makes a difference. I could reach the ground on both sides squarely on the balls of my feet. At stop lights I found myself flat footing on my left foot. I would not get a TT, but it did give me some ideas for the Uly. I think I am going to try Lightning pegs.

Being in Time Square and eating at the Hard Rock Cafe on your birthday is pretty cool! We had a great day. I'd love to come back to NYC without the worry of the children!

Guess the has become pretty "famous" when you can be in NYC and be spotted! Good thing Carlos was driving. I certainly couldn't have done it. I'll stay with our NC "traffic".

Today was really fun getting to meet Bueller's that I've only chatted with on-line. Got a chance to meet Erik, Court and his wife Vicki. Carlee was so excited to meet Erik. I bought her a red Buell hat with sparkles and then we asked Erik to sign it. She was all smiles!

Only two more weeks for Buelltoberfest!!!!!!

U4 - I stopped by Autozone on my way to Morrow Mtn. I went in but you weren't there. Someone asked if they could help me, so I decided to see if I could buy wheel bearings (I want a spare set.)

I got them to look up Buell bearings, and when I said that the woman in there asked me "Do you know Jimmy?" They must know about your bike. : )

To quote Court, "that would be an accurate statement". It's about to get better for her. Court is going to have one of the pictures of us signed and sent to her from Erik. Can't wait to see her face then!

She really had a great time. My poor niece was bored beyond tears. She napped in the truck.
