Jackie,
Seems you are right! Looking to be excellent riding weather later in the week. Might need to pack some warmer clothes.

Nuts,
Need to know where you live??

I don't know if I'll have access to a computer from Monday thru Thursday, so ya'll may not hear from me until arrival time.(Jackie, sending you my cell# just in case)

Charlie,
What a cruel and heinous thing to wish on a friend! Just because we are going to be riding, enjoying one anothers' fine company and making memories that will last a lifetime shouldn't make you turn on me like that .
Did I mention the BEAUTIFUL mountains that will be the backdrop to our adventures? Of course it probably pales in comparison to the scenery of the great state of South Carolina .
One day I hope to tease you enough to force you into a visit!!

Tank,
Good times are just ahead man! The camera is charged and ready and the trails are beckoning.
If Nuts doesn't contact you with his info don't take it personally. He rarely checks out Badweb anymore since he jumped ship. Just sits in front of his computer and talks to his new Kawasaki Versys buddies for hours.

Nuts,
My legs are on fire man!! I broke out the Atarax last night and even with the other antihistamines it did nothing to stop the itch.
Perhaps I should seek the sage wisdom of Burly Johnson to see what he would do.

Jackie,
I told you what to do, in a couple of hours the itch goes away. At least for me it always did.
I take back the hateful thing I said, maybe just one renegade chigger you can't get to.
Your gonna look over your shoulder going up Bent Mtn. one day and I'm gonna be right on your six.Charlie

Jackie,
If you talk to the Elusive one, have him call my cell Monday or Tuesday, so I can figure out where to go(I know, I know, everybody tells me to go to hell already).

Looking forward to meeting Nuts Pops again. He's a cool cat(and not half bad handling the beemer, either).

Tank, I need to know what route you are taking into "The 'Noke." If it's 220, 221, I-81 I'll PM you my cell # so we can work it out. At the very least you can ring me Thursday when you leave and I can guide you in. I'm off all day Thursday! NNNNNNUTS

I don't have a single itch. After coming back from Lynchburg this morning, I sure am tired though. How many miles did everyone else get in today?

I need to know what route you are taking into "The 'Noke."

I'm thinking 116....

At this point, I have no idea which way to leave Danville, much less which way to "roll-in".

A project for a later date.

Charlie,
I'm a bit scared to try the nail polish due to an underlying skin condition. If it don't ease up soon I guess I'll go get some Prednisone from the good Dr..
As far as you catching me from behind you surely wouldn't have a problem with that. I dare say you could probably catch me before I hit Floyd even if you were leaving from down there at the same time I left .

Nuts,
Thanks for the invite man. It was supposed to be The Raven, you and me today. No call or nothing. You are getting out of hand mister!

Tank,
If you come in on 116 you will be going over Windy Gap Mt. which is one of the roads I run all the time. I live directly off 116 about 3 miles from the base of the mountain. Make sure you wave as you ride on by!!

It ain't that bad man. I towed my ATV up it all the time during hunting season.
Just drop her down in 2nd on the decent and you'll be fine.
Coming in on 220 from Danville is a pleasant ride and goes by pretty quick. Beware the one turn past Martinsville with the flashing lights saying "Rollover Hazard". They ain't lying my friend.

Oh man Charlie this thing is shaping up to be a real hoot! Jasons' pop rolled in today and is gonna be a welcome addition to our riding group.
Since it is supposed to rain Friday we figured we would ride street tomorrow and then hit the trails Friday when they are nice and muddy.
Be sure to check in tomorrow night for a bounty of pics and a detailed description of the route Ole' Nuts chooses for us.
The fun is about to hit the fan!

Alright Charlie here it goes.
The weather was perfect. Slightly overcast and pleasant temps in the low 80's down in the Valley.

We headed up Windy Gap and then shot across Bethlehem Rd. to hit 220. We then took one of my crazy backroads over to 221 and proceeded to climb up Bent Mountain. At the top we pulled over for a quick stop.

Onward we push to Check and hit a pretty nice side road over to Christiansburg where we made a gas stop and discuss the next leg of the journey.

We decided to ride through Ellett Valley and take Blacksburg road over to 311.

We took a left and headed towards Paint Bank for some nice twisties and some good eats.

170 miles later and we were all back home safe and sound. A LOOOOONG ride for me but lots of fun!

Jackie,
Nice photo's, glad you guy's had a good time. I was hoping to get a good shoot of that weird helmet of Nut's. After all the earlier press, I was hoping to get a good look at it.
Some of those roads bring back some good memories. I use to go from Check to Shawsville in the phone truck all the time. Damn I miss that place. Glad everybody had a good ride without me.....Charlie

Tomorrow Charlie you shall lay eyes upon the infamous Smut Peddler helmet in all its' glory. I'll be sure to get you shots from several angles so you can hopefully fully appreciate the sheer gaudiness of this abomination.
Looks like rain is in the forecast for the dirt ride so Tank should have his hands full with those tires HEHEHE!!
Speaking of Tank he is quite a nice feller and rides very well however he ain't much to look at though .
Pops is a super nice feller as well and I enjoy his visits each time he comes up. Glad we finally got to ride together although he absolutely SMOKED me. All 3 of them were gone and a few miles later would be found patiently waiting on the side of the rode for me to round the bend.
I can say with GREAT confidence that my bike is the nicest looking and cleanest of the bunch hence it being proudly displayed in the fore front of most pictures .

I sure hope Tank enjoyed those roads. Minimal gravel but maximum deer. Turkey's too. Coach Jackie, maybe you should donate that bike to a museum, it might get more use.NUTS

OK Nuts,
Don't be hard on Jackie, he told me he was just laying back looking for Kawasaki parts. You know how hard it is to find parts for some of those new models.
That was some good looking bikes in those pictures, although I wasn't sure which one was yours since they were all vertical at the time. I haven't heard a name for this bad boy yet. Whats it gonna be?
Jackie, you didn't "tag" any of those deer for later did you?....Charlie

Charlie,
Funny you mention that. The way Nuts was showing off I half thought I would round a turn and find him sitting there collecting his thoughts (and bike pieces).
He started out pretty laid back and got progressively worse as the ride wore on. Pulling wheelies, accelerating to close to 100mph, slowing down and then hammering it.
The whole time I knew he wouldn't be able to restrain himself the entire ride and as usual I was right .
He even started giving us play by plays of the roads.
"Now this here road has some light turns but nothing unexpected until we get to this point. Then we will hit some turns where there may or may not be gravel. I may be cutting lanes and passing cars on the double line BLAH BLAh BLAH"!!
I thought I was watching a cheap remake of Cannonball Run when things started getting out of hand . I hear tell that Ole' Nuts had an up close look at a group of deer however I didn't witness it first hand since I was 4 miles back.
I did have a small bird or VERY large insect explode on my chest and leave its wholesome goodness all over me and the bike. I stayed up until 3:30am getting the Yellow Jacket back to pristine condition since the thought of having dried guts all over the bike wasn't particularly appealing.
The rain is coming down hard and we are about to embark on our dirt ride. Combine the mud, Tanks tires and my stiff back and you have a recipe for many fun pictures!

Charlie,
As expected the dual sport trip was excellent however not for the reasons we thought it would be.
It was pouring down rain so we decided to hit Broad Run. After unloading we proceeded to make our initial run down the trail with me leading, then Tank, then Nuts. Once I reached the end of the road I sat for several minutes and they never show so I turn around and find them broke down in the middle of the trail several miles back.
After fiddling for a few minutes we manage to get Tanks bike to where it would go about a mile each time before dying, Each time it would die me and Nuts would take turns riding up and back a bit while the other kept Tank company. So we are sitting there and Nuts goes around a turn and then we don't hear anything. Me and Tank look at each other and say almost at the same time "bailed it". Sure enough Nuts comes back around the turn and said he dropped it .
On my next go around I rode down a bit, turned around and stopped between Nuts and Tank and then proceeded to give Nuts a little bit of the rooster tail treatment.
As we get closer to the vehicles we notice the creeks have started to get water back in them and sure enough Tank stalls right in the middle of a small brook. Me and Jason took turns riding past and splashing water all over him. The picture below was taken right after we got tired of doing it.

We finally made it back to the trucks after 45 minutes or so. Not what we expected but fun anyway!
Now on to the infamous Smut Peddler helmet.

So would you be caught dead with that thing on your head?

Nuts,
I have to give it to you, anybody who would wear that thing all day in public has got to have a real pair. Ten minutes in that thing and I would be hiding in the bushes.I really like the dress-up you gave it jackie. Nuts have you thought of some strategically placed pin- strips or decals to detract from that over whelming snooz-ola.Charlie

Did Tank ever get his DS restarted? I believe I would have started throwing rocks at you guys if I had been in his position(stuck in a water hole)after the second pass.Talk about turning on a brotha when he's bent over.Sounds like this trip will be one he will remember for awhile.Charlie

Charlie,
It would start and then die a few moments later. I'm thinking either fuel delivery or air flow.
Today Nuts left town so me and Tank went out for a nice lunch at the 611 Steakhouse and then rode up to the star.

We then rode up the Parkway and looped back down Bent Mountain.

Hooked a left at 419 and ran up to Fast Freddies to check out the cars. Not many people there today but a few neat rides were present.
Tank is heading home in the morning but hopefully won't wait another year before visiting RVFL again.

Had a great time, guys!

Got home about noon, for a record trip of about 3hrs, 15min. The Jeeps gas tank is empty, and my bladder was about to explode(no stops).

Talk about turning on a brotha when he's bent over.
With friends like these....

All in good fun. After all it was kind-of my fault the ride got cut short.

Went back to the hotel last night with no intention of walking down to the bar...

BUT...
for some reason my key-card wasn't working, so I had to go to the front desk to get that sorted. And what's directly across from the desk?? The Bar. So I had to stop in for a couple, and the overly fluffy bartender thanked me for hanging around the night before until the "creepy dude" finally left.

We'll definitely have to do that again sooner rather than later!

Nice pose there Tank.
I still say that the looks of the 1125 leave a lot to be desired. Those pods and muffler really kill any desire I would ever have for one.
Glad you made it home safely and hope you get some much needed rest before having to head back to work.

As fancy as the picture looks, I had a very hard time riding the beast.

Due to my small "frame", I couldn't get off the thing enough to make what little weight I have make enough difference to trust it.

It was so fast in the straights, I could have passed my maker.
Yes, it's that fast.
I know tunnel-vision, and I backed off when it got tiny. It was fast, and it never balked at the turns, I just don't have the balls to ride the bike like it was intended.
