Hey guys and gals just thought I'd do a shameless plug for my new job selling Hondas, Kawis, Suzuki's, Yam, and used Duc's. Come by and see me at MR cycle in Asheville (just off the parkway). Yes I am keeping the buell. I'm on the lookout for a good track bike if I see any that I can't grab I'll let you all know. ( I got to ride the new Concourse it's so sweet!)

Creeker, I know the store. I'm coming up this weekend for a 150 mile dual sport ride promoted by ACME Cycles out of Fairview. I'll try to stop by if I can. Congrats on the new job.

Creeker - Congrats on the new job. I should be in your area on October 5th on the way to Iron Horse. Maybe I will stop by.

Ulyrider - Will have to try that. I have the seat that was on the Uly when I went down. It has a small rip in it so I bought a new one. I will try it this weekend, then talk my father-in-law into recovering it. As for the racing oil, I have no professional opinion but looking at the manual, depending on the temperatures your riding in, they recommend from 10-40W to straight 60W. So I guess for fall riding the racing oil would be good. I usually run 20-50W.

I got my seat back today and what a difference. I threw it on and swung my leg over and WOW I actually got the balls of both of my feet on the ground. feels good to not look like a midget at stop lights.

M2NC-I was cutting on an '07 seat, not an '06. it would have taken alot more work to be able to fit it from what I hear about the height difference. I'm happy with it.

Fyi - I am going to be at Deal's Gap for the week of Sept 17th- 21st for vacation. I am meeting up with an old riding buddy that is riding down from Indiana. Let me know if you are going to be in the area. It would be good to ride with some Buellers out there.

Ulyrider - I have two '07 seats and an '06 low. The '06 Standard I gave away. It was too tall for my short legs.

Cyclone - Have fun! We will be in New York City visiting family on that weekend. It should be a lot of fun. Be safe and remember we are shooting for distance. My return to the Dragon will be on Friday, October 5th.

From http://www.wral.com/traffic/story/1793397/

quote:

Hillsborough — An accident involving a tractor-trailer has forced the closure of two lanes of Interstate 85 North through Orange County.

...

The accident, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m., involved a tractor-trailer.

Troopers said authorities were also dealing with a fuel spill at the scene.

The accident occured probably 30 seconds before I crested the hill. I saw dust and assumed it was construction activity. Then I saw it was an over turned tractor-trailer. Then I saw the driver standing on top of cab. The engine was still running and diesel and antifreeze was pouring out onto the highway. There were concrete chunks from where the trailer had taken out the side of the the bridge's guard rail when it had gone off the road. I pulled the Uly onto the shoulder and went back to help. There were several people already stopped. One asked me to call 911, but I still had my helmet on so I gave him my phone. Three guys had helped the driver away from the truck and down into the grass. I hung around for a couple of minutes and then decided I was just in the way, so I left. It was an exciting way to finsh the afternoon.

Dang Jim...Still gonna take it to the track, did you install the chain conversion yet? A late 70's,early 80's Honda 750 in mint condition showed up at the workplace last week. The last time I rode one, I was around 125 lbs. That bike really hauled ass. Probably how I got the nickname "twig".

Man Jim, I am sorry to hear it. Kristi told me about it last night after she talked to you.

I tie up my bike to a weight machine. It is backyard engineering at its best, but the three tie system does an excellent job of stabalizing the bike on the normal shop floor jack I use.

Anybody from the group that is going to the Inside Pass track day at VIR this week, you will see a familiar face if you went to the DC IMS show in 2006. If you have a chance, stop and say 'Hi' to Chris for me. I'll be talking to him later today and if I've followed the threads well enough it looks like Spike, U4euh, and Pete will be attending. Hopefully U4euh can get his bike to the point of it being able to be raced after the mishap with the lift. That's my biggest fear every time I change the tires on the V-Rod and strap it on the lift. But back to the topics at hand, I noticed Mikethebike72 inquired about anyone trailering from the Raleigh area a while back. Don't know if that means he is going or not. Whoever does go, let us know what the 1125R is like...on the track!

As I was looking through my pics from the 2006 DC IMS show I found this one that looked to be foreshadowing what would come about 15 months later...

Jim,

Now that there's funny!

Why it's good to have spares!
When you take your carburetor off your S2 to rebuild it and it looks like this:

Carb 1

In case you don't notice anything out of the ordinary, here it is a little closer:

Carb 2

And for the hell of it, even closer:

Carb 3

All I need is a decent screwdriver to rid the spare S1 carburetor I had occupying shelf space of it's slow jet so I can put in the 48 from the Holy Carburetor and I will be good to go.

I believe the hole in the carburetor is OE (Operator Error), so it's good I got a spare to cover my (financial) arse. And, YES, the missing pieces were found in the float bowl. I'm not as amazed at how well it ran with the hole in the carburetor as I am in the fact that it took me to Milwaukee and back in that condition, all the while still getting pretty acceptable MPG values. It also helps to explain why I had to twist the throttle before starting it if it sat for a couple of hours, why it would starve for fuel around 90 MPH on 'my own private drag strip' on the way to work in the mornings, and why I had to screw the idle adjust cable I confiscated off the S1 carburetor years ago all the way in to get it to idle decently (most of the time)...

I can't wait to pick up a better screwdriver tomorrow...

Careful. It looks like that hole was caused by application of a screwdriver. : )

Got it all back together this morning. Chain installed, new Conti Attacks(put the Sort on the front still left over from the 2nd demo set, put a 190/50/17 Road on the back). Gave the crossraods and the foot mount a close look. Doesn't appear to have any structural concerns, it is noticable when looking, but not riding.
Put about 170 miles on today. ( I need new knee sliders now)

VIR will be fun! I don't know if they will allow you to watch or not Jim. If you make it up call my cell phone!

Someone from Charlotte is supposed to be going. Rubberdown will be going also. Pete and I are heading up Tuesday morning to do some riding in the area. I didn't get to meet Chris, tell him to hunt us down, I'll have the computer there so I can down load pictures as they are taken, which reminds me...........................
Pete will see all the picture for the first time from MB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure how PTT handles it, but Nesba allows friends and family to attend track events at no cost. I'm guessing that if you show up to a Buell event riding your Buell they'd let you right in. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever been asked for proof of registration to the track days I've been to by the guys at the gate at VIR. Usually they just ask what you're there for and then make you sign the same waiver that everyone else has to sign.

I'll be up from Asheville on my Blue 2000 M2 in Intermediate, Katie will be riding her black Duc 620i in Novice.

I wanted to get the oil cooler put on the M2, but ran out of time. I WILL be trying out the new Penske/Race Tech fork internals and Penske shock though! Dang street rubber on the wheels though (Diablo's, non-Corsa).

We're staying in the Straton Inn in Danville. We'll go the the track on Tuesday evening about 8:30 and hope they let us in to set up the gear. I hate to be in a rush in the morning. These guys don't start the first session until 9:00 though.

Looking forward to seeing y'all there. Guess I'll go introduce myself on the DC/VA page.

I don't want to break any possible etiquette, so I am not going to post the information here. However, because I am in Charlotte, NC - I wanted to mention that I have an XB12Scg for sale. Please see my posting in the Classified section if anyone is interested.

HOLY CRAP! I just heard from The Boy. He was moseying up to VIR today to watch Rubberdown and U4euh race . . . and ended up signing up for 4 races himself. Jlnance just ran his first race at VIR! Apparently he's going to ride his Uly twice and ride a brand-spanking-new 1125R twice. Holy smokes!

Unfortunately, Pete (who worked the grill at Rachel's Bike Night in Southern Pines) didn't fare so well. Crashed in a curve and is leaving VIR in an ambulance. Possible broken shoulder.

I've got to go put on a new diaper. I'll keep everyone informed.
