What are you guys in the mood for? Out here by the coast or inland up in the hills? Breakfast and then ride or ride to breakfast?

Hmmm, breakfast then ride? Meet, ride, breakfast, ride? Actually, I don't care. Sorry, not much help.

As for the ride, something scenic with nice, clean roads. Not in the mood to wad 'er up.

You name the time and place, I'll show up.

ok, well then I'll make it easy on me! There is a lot of new pavement out this way, so meet me here at my place at nine.
Exit 10 off 101 and left if you are coming from the west toward Newfields.
Go about 3 miles and slow down when you see the 30 mph sign going down the hill into town.
1/4 mile - white church on the right, general store diagonally on left. Take right onto Swamscott st next to church and slightly before the general store.
Down the hill until you see the X painted on the road for the rr crossing. my driveway is within a foot or two of dead center of the X on the left between the two white houses. 603-502-7580

I'll probably call you because I barely remember your place.

So, what time is good for you to meet?

sorry Tunes, the ride was today! We waited for you.....(well, we killed some time while fixing various minor maladies - the S3 was pissed at me for some reason).

cgocifer - Great ride, but I hope you don't think I showed my hand during that standing start roll on!
If you think you have something for me - let's do the track either this wednesday or friday night.

Can't make it tomorrow after all.

"cgocifer - Great ride, but I hope you don't think I showed my hand during that standing start roll on!

Scott,

I enjoyed the ride and working on your bike with you for the majority of the morning. The breakfast...er brunch was outstanding. As for the roll on, I was just having some juvenile stoplight fun since we were plagued by traffic for most of the day. Didn't hear me braggin' did ya? I got nothin' for ya when it comes to drag racing a bike. I was only 3/4 throttle BTW. Too dangerous to do it all out on the street. I know you are an avid drag racer, have a strapped front end, longer wheel base, and probably a better reaction time, so I'm pretty sure you'd take the win light. I love drag racing, but am not good at drag racing sport bikes. Cars, yes, bikes, no. That's all you buddy! I've practiced launches before and struggle to keep the front end on the deck. Gobs of torque in a short wheel base don't make a good drag bike. I'll stick to the twisty stuff. That is where the XB shines. So, if you'd like to do a track day sometime, I'd be down for that! I may do a Friday night drag some time just for fun though. I'll let ya know! Who knows, maybe I'll learn a thing or two.

P.S. Don't forget to send copies or post the pics. BTW, did you ever get out the magnet?

Dan

Just trying to get you out to the track Dan! There are not so many friday nights left before the season is over.....
If you didn't wheelie at 3/4 throttle, you just need to slip the clutch more while rolling on full throttle - no big deal!

Maybe this Friday night I'll finally make it out there. What do I need? Full leathers, boots, helmet, anything else?

Scott,

How about Friday night at the drags? I think it would be a blast! What time do you usually go?

Friday night works for me Dan, I try to be there at 6 at the latest, but 5:30 is better. You get through tech quick an easy if you get there early and don't miss 1st run.
Anybody else interested?
For the speeds/et's we run you need Snell 97 or later helmet, leather gloves, leather jacket (they will usually accept textile jackets with armor),jeans are ok, boots over the ankle.
The bike usually isn't a problem - but you do need to have a "chain guard" on top.

Yeah, those take some engineering to make them work on the XBs due to the ZTL brake.

I have full leathers I'll be wearing, gloves, and my helmet was purchased this year. It's an HJC and should meet all the current requirements. My belt guards are all stock.

I might be there right around 545 or 6. That's probably the best I can do.

ok, see you then. allthread through the axle is the easy way to strap, more elegant solutions take more time.....
Not to worry, by the end of the night you will only be giving up a few tenths on the starting line - the lighter weight of the XB should allow you to make it up on the big end.....

Had a blast at the track last night! I didn't do terribly for my first time drag racing a bike, but there is room for improvement. Either way, it didn't really matter, it was great fun!

My best time was about 12.23 @ 112mph or something like that. I have to look at my slips.

Scott was ripping off some good times and beating me by about 2-3 bike lengths or more. I finally beat a HD Dyna by nearly .5 seconds. LOL

I was grinning the whole way down the track every time though.

That was fun Dan, I hope we can get some more locals and the NEBO guys to come before the season is over.
The air wasn't very good last night so I only nicked the 11's with an 11.91.
Dan did very well - a few more runs and some cooler, dryer weather will have him easily in the 11's - who says XB's are so hard to launch?
Probably would of made it in the 11.8's if my bike didn't start pissing oil out the cam cover!
I have it all apart and will be upgrading the oil pump drive gear while I'm this far in!
Pictures on Monday (faster connection at work)

Man, that would be awesome to have a bunch of Buells! That would be some good racing! Launching was easier than I thought, but that rev limiter comes up quick in 1st gear. I lifted the front hitting second, but just nice power wheelies. I'm going to try and launch from 2nd gear next time with more revs ala flat track style. Get 'er back together, and we'll go again!
