hey nills, is this your listing, or don't you handle the ebay stuff.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-LSL-Buell-XB-Fr ame-Sliders-and-Mounting-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcat egoryZ35562QQihZ016QQitemZ260143619580QQrdZ1QQsspa genameZWDVW

what do you think of these sliders? I like the look (cosmetically) but not the look (structurally). Do you have any leads on local guys that do any weld on mounts for a standard, cheaper, slider?

I know the buell pucks are probably the best, but jeez they're ugly.

Are you guys doing your ride this Saturday? I might have to dip out early, but if anyone is interested, we're doing another ride in the afternoon and ending up at the drive in. (Yes, we will have a few cars there for stereos). Let me know if you are interested in going.

There are a few people who are riding this sat. Meet at 8 so we can leave by 8:30.
Hopefully the Uly is fixed. The tip over switch went ..... at 85 on the freeway passing semi. It was pretty scary shutting down completely.

doesn't sound like fun, nils. By freeway you mean 4 lane or more? Bet it would have been scarier on a two lane, passing a semi, with on-coming traffic.

Thoughts and prayers to all involved tonight. Wow. Hope you all are home, and safe, and your friends and famalies too.

As insignificant as this is. . . does anyone know if powdercoat (on my wheel) is warrantied. No this is not due to tire changes, rocks, etc.

There has been a discolored area (about 3/4 in by 3 in) for as long as I can remember. Now it finially chipped down to bare metal.

yeah, I did, extended service won't do anything about it. I just thought that maybe the company itself was doing something about this. From what I've read, and more info on this would be helpful, they had a lot of problems with this powdercoat process when they first started doing it.

I'm just hoping that they'll stand behind it as a application defect and help me out here. I'll call customer service tomorrow, but I'm not too optimistic, this is HD after all.

Hey my Uly has been in the shop for 2 weeks because I have been giving up my Recall for customers. Now that is customer service.

didn't mean to offend you personally, nils. Its just that hd has come off as a typical big business. And in this case, customer service doesn't care what the cause is. They only care that cosmetic defect/damage is cosmetic. . . and not warrantied.
Thats pretty much what I expected from the headquarters level. I do feel badly, though. You've always come off as level headed and an enthusiast. I also have to admit the St. Paul hd service dept has really impressed me in the last few weeks. I haven't tried the parts counter in months, as they were the ones that originally made me steer clear of the dealership, but service was great.

And there have been a few other dealerships that I've really liked (New Richmond, Mason City, and even Mankato) I just would feel better if corporate would have cared enough to ask me to bring it to the dealership so that someone qualified could offer an opinion of what caused the problem.

They were friendly, and apologetic; but still gave me the answer that I was expecting.

No problem, I am never really offended, remember I work so you can ride.
I guess the rain scared everyone off. Oh well my bike is still in the shop.
We should go riding later in the month.

Hello there. I was wondering if there was a pretty large group of Buell riders in the MSP area? I working on moving there hopefully next summer and would definitely be interested in going for a spin!

the buell group here isn't huge, but we get a few group rides together. There's always sportbike rides with the ricers too. Let us know when you move, I'm always up for a ride.

Anybody have one of those pipe looking tools for cutting a hole in the end of grips. Finally ordered some bar end mirrors, so I'm hoping to lose the fuzzy/am I drunk feeling every time I look in my mirrors.

So, first track day of the year ended up a bust (literally, as in my engine). First forgot the key at home and had to miss the first two sessions driving back to get it. Then my first time on the track I got in about 15 laps and was getting a good feel for the track (Autobahn North in Joliet, IL) and something went bad in the engine. Don't know yet if it's a blown valve or piston or what.

Brad, thanks for calling back. I iced down the pipes to cool them off because the bike was sitting in the hot sun. When I started it back up, the rear pipe got hot and dry in about 5 seconds while the front pipe stayed wet and touchable for much much longer. I'll see what Zylstra says on Tuesday.

Here are some pics of my attempt at a track day.

I hope all is well back in MN.

Eric - that really sucks! I hope it turns out to be something realitively cheap and easy to fix.

Thanks Nick, it's looking better already. Well that is if a heli-coil in the cylinder head is cheaper than valve or piston work. Turns out the front plug blew out of the cylinder while going about 100mph. Pretty much the same thing as listed here. Hopefully it's a simple fix and not too expensive. I realize that now I scared all of you away from ever doing a track day!

Eric, that sucks, but no I hope to get a couple track days in next year. Maybe just DCTC to start. . .
Just have to ask the question, though. Why'd you drive all the way home when you could have just jumped a couple wires and ran with no key?
Let us know the details on getting the engine fixed.

That's good news - in a really backward kind of way - but good news none-the-less. Let us know how much it does cost to fix...

What is the root cause of these failures? I know I've heard of it before.

Surewin,
I would have told him the same thing except he had already retrieved the key by the time I figured out I missed his call and called him back.

This is a bit disconcerting, this is the 2nd XB on this board to have the front plug blow out. Both of them have the head stripped out.
Eric either needs a new head or a Timesert installed.
If it was mine I'd try to do it on the bike, sounds like the dealer in Chicago is reluctant to do that and wants to pull the head.
Sucks either way....

Brad

Could it be due to a bad casting? I can't believe the threads would let go unless there was a problem with the integreity of the head casting.

I don't think it's the casting, probably a loose install of the plug and it works it's way out.

But then -- how could the head threads be stripped if the plug was just working its way out?

Maybe the threads were damaged before hand -- over tightened or cross threaded or something...

Nick,
From the one's I've seen, the plug blows out when it backs out a bit. The upper part of the threads are trashed but the lower are realitivly OK.

I think I've heard of the same thing happening once in a great while on certain cars too... I can't remember exactly -- Might have been Mazda 626/MX-6 and Ford Probes all with the 2.5L Mazda V6... Anyways...

How's it coming, Eric?

Got a note from Eric yesterday, he's got the bike back home and is doing the tear down himself.
The head has already been fixed with a Timesert.
He should have everything back together this weekend.
