Twig - Sounds good. I assume this is in Fancy Gap. I am trying to picture where this restaurant is. Is it just south of the BRP? On the right side if you are going up the hill on 52?

I'll probably take 52n the last few miles for the fun. After the brp overpass, not even 1/8 of a mile on MY left. Lakeview restaurant, if I remember right. Gas station beside of it, antique shop across the street.

Took a ride last night after a 60 day hiatus due to work. The HD is till on the stand and covered but the Uly is smiling in the garage. The stress relief was amazing!
Have a great holiday weekend everyone.

Nuts - Saturday will be 10 a.m. at the Lakeview Restaurant on 52 just north of the BRP overpass.

Sunday Carlos will ride again somewhere. Just give us a call and we can see what Sunday holds.

Nance, at first I thought you took a wrong turn, but Jerry said you were heading on back. Good fun today! I got home and Pat told me the tranny in the Taurus is acting up again. I don't feel so hot..

I was hoping Jerry understood what I was saying. I wanted to get home before dark since I don't have any low beams. : ) My alternate plan was to pull the fuse out of the PIAAs so I wouldn't blind anyone.

Highway 8 is like deals gap. : ) It was a blast comming home. I stopped for a milkshake in the middle of nowhere. Have you ever noticed people are nicer in the middle of nowhere? The kids at the soad shop called me sir and seemed genuinly interested in my trip.

It was light when I left this morning and light when I got back. That means it was a short day of riding. Until I realize I spent almost 11 hours on the bike and did did between four and five hundred miles today. It seems more impressive in that context.

It was great seeing everyone. I like your house Jerry. I can tell you how much work you've done by the difference between the front and the side. I'm impressed with your shovle work. My sedentary self would not fair well trying to do that.

It was good a good day!

If I'd of known Nance was going milkshake hunting I'd of tagged along. Next time I'll ask : ) Them PIAAs do put out some serious light.

After Twig and I finally cleared Fancy Gap it was smooth sailing and we parted ways at 77/74.

I didn't know myself until I saw the sign for HW 8. I had no idea where I was and knew that would get me home.

Jim,
Sorry I was not there to welcome the first guests to the clubhouse. Yes, Jerry has done a ton of work to our house - gotta admit I was shaking the first time I walked on the freestanding deck but pretty relieved to find it more stable than when it was actually "attached" to the house with a few nails!

Home Sweat Home. No that is not a misspelling. Its HOT on this side of the state. Carlee rode home with me the 245 miles and six hours of mostly back roads. I tried a new route home and was very pleased with it. Hwy 8 to NC704 to NC770 to NC158 to NC96 to Hwy 264. The roads were beautiful and somewhat curvy. It was a much better if slower route than I-40 on Labor day. By the time we could not see the mountains anymore, Carlee and I started with the heat management program. We were geared for 70-80°F not 90°F. Sweated all the way home and stripped out of gear as soon as we got home. All in all another good day of riding.

As for Saturday, I am glad so many were able to come up and ride. It was a lot of fun to see everybody again. I have to get up there one more time before it turns cold. Maybe in early November if the weather hold, we will be able to have another weekend in the mountains.

Carlee says hello to everybody.

Carlos, I'm not sure where you caught 8, but when I took it out of Floyd, it was like riding the Dragon. Cept the speed limit was 55 and the traffic was light. I think I scraped my boots.

I have found a bottle of water poured over my shirt makes an effective air conditioner on the bike.

Totally soak a long sleeved t-shirt in water. Put it on without wringing it. Will keep you cool (well, cooler) for a full hour. YMMV.

good to see and ride with all y'alls on Saturday.

Carlos, glad you and your family are home safe and sound. Carlee is cool! Jim, thx for the props on the house. it's been a lot of work, and a lot of fun (mostly), and Denise deserves a bunch of credit for what has been accomplished so far, including a massive amount of dirt she's moved with her own hands. : )

Denise was a little (lot) bummed that she couldn't ride with us on Saturday (the fact that she was two and a half thousand miles away at the time might have had something to do with it...), so i tried to make it up to her today by taking her to lunch at Peaks of Otter, on the BRP at milepost 85 (for reference, Fancy Gap is MP 199.5).

Pretty Nice Ride up and back, about 265 miles in total (we took the "long" way home, thru Ferris Ferrum, VA), gorgeous weather, perfect temps, and not too much traffic considering the holiday. good stuff!

FB&D : ): )

FB&D,

Big time props on the home renovation. I, for one, know exactly how hard, trying, and consuming it can be. It's never ending and as soon as you complete one of your open projects another rears its ugly head. If it wasn't dark I'd put up a pic of my back yard which currently has 20 dump trucks of dirt just kind of piled around. Just another bump in the road.

Looking forward to the next ride! My wife and I were in/around 280 to 320 today just tooling the BRP.

Take care and let me know when it's time to do some roofing.

Carlee really had a great time riding Saturday. As I was giving her the run down on names, BadWeb names, etc. she says "I know already know Twig"! Excuse me little Miss C3 Jr. Pre-teens, aren't they wonderful?

FB - Carlee thinks you're pretty cool too!

Denise - glad you're home safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing you in October.

JimN - tell TJ she missed a good ride and a fun weekend at the cabin! Maybe she'll come next time.

Xb9ser - be interesting if they show up. Seems like we had a guy post before from Morehead City. Wonder if it's the same person or someone new. Time will tell.

a shot of Denise inside Mabry Mill yesterday. this was her first visit.

thx Big Dad, much appreciated! pretty cool that about 30 minutes after meeting someone for the first time that you'd offer to help them re-roof their house. : )

this pic is from several months ago, of Denise helping me move Jeb Bush to his new home. (Jeb used to live under the deck, and had to be relocated so i could start cross-bracing the deck supports so it wouldn't fall down when we started the re-siding project up above.)

JBush was so big it was all both of us could do to pick him up and get him in the wheelbarrow.

the fact that our cat Snickers wanted to help didn't make it any easier...

FB&D : ): )

The Girl has a business trip to California in October. After that, as long as she is going to be on the west coast, she wants to visit Seattle. She invited me to join her out there. What the hell, this is her fault. She rented Wild Hogs again.

hey everyone just checking in, I've been in Beautiful Charleston, SC for awhile. the land of heat, humidity, and giant man eating mosquitoes (not to mention the wonderful city). I have family there and haven't seen them in a while and the wife wanted to get away so we went for a while. sounds like everybody had a big weekend of riding. I finally decided to pull my seat apart and custom tailor it to my posterior. its at the upholstery shop right now getting put back together. I can pick it up tomorrow and be back on the road.

-has anyone checked on tickets to the brewgrass festival? thinking about going.

Jim - I am jealous. I want to do a cross-country trip!!

Ulyrider - How did you customize the seat. I have a slightly used seat that I want to do something with. I have heard of companies that you can send your seat to, but I do not know what to do to make it better. The '07 seat pushes me forward and causes hot spots on the upper back portion of the leg after a few hundred miles. I want something flatter that does not push me forward. The '06 standard was good but I had reach issues. Any ideas?

Back in 1983 I was riding in my friend's mom's station wagon with three friends when this little car passed by with two girls in it. We caught it and she caught me.

Funny thing is the Uly has a bigger engine with 40hp more.

M2NC-I have modified seats on dirtbikes in the past so I decided what the heck it can't hurt. I removed the staples from the cover far enough back to uncover my entire seating area. there is a plastic sheet between the cover and foam peel it back too. this is the time consuming part. test fit and see where you need to remove material and using about an 80 grit sandpaper just start sanding a little foam off of the area until you've got it comfortable. I had to give myself a little reach and pull in the sides a bit. you can't imagine how much difference taking a little material off of the edge where it turns down can pull your legs in and give you more reach. I should have taken pics of but didn't plan on any questions, sorry.

- any ideas on using a 10w-60 racing oil instead of the specified 20w-50?

And he's still here! I miss my little rag top. Who would have ever thought that I'd be driving a Suburban now. Boy don't children change your priorities.
