Stay away from that place.. please.. you need some good sleep before a track day.. and this place will not give you that..

Ok.. nuff said..

If you go to Buell.com and register as an "owner", then you have access to a link that allows you to sign up without need to designate rider level.(so I hear)

I'll move up to intermediate if it becomes an issue.

I have the gear, and my bike will be prepped accordingly.

Just watched the video from the Pro-Mo site, I've never been to that track, but it is familiar I am thinking. Then it hits me The Playstation game has the track on there. Time to dust off the console. I know it's not the same, but hey I'm getting ansy about this thing!!!
Oh yea, I'm from NC, we got a good group of guys heading up. Me and another guy with a SuperChicken will be trailering up on Tuesday morning. Now we need to figure out where to stay.
Is it advisable for the wife to tag along? I'm gonna be stoked about being on the track and would hate for her to be stuck in a lawn chair for 98% of the day.

Chris,

Aggressive on the street does not mean skilled on a track.. But that said, we're not racing so I'll bet you'll be OK, as a matter of fact, I'll bet you could get away with signing up through the Buell Owners site and if need be.. apologize after the first session (something like.. oops.. I didn't realize the Intermediates were going to be rolling so hot..) and step down a level if need be.

Jim,

Your buddy is gonna wanna switch over to Buells after this day.. hehehehehe..
As for the wife coming along. Bring her! If she's the pro-active type, there's going to be a bunch of us from the board pitting together and riding the different groups so she can play pit boss for all of us and keep us from crashing into each other as we move in and out. VIR's paddock is a mix of fine pea gravel (where you park your trucks etc.) and blacktop.. for rolling on.. and depending on how we end up, she's always going to have something to help someone with or look over.. Then there is the fact that VIR is a BIG place and she can spend quite a while moving around it watching us as we navigate the turns, just ask my wife Robin (BumbleBuell) or I or any of us that have been there for the races and we can give her several really good areas to watch the action from. Or she can go into town and explore/shop .. or she can sign up and ride! Or not.. hehehehehe.. But, unless she really wants to, I'm sure she can spend minimum time in that lawn chair.

Ok, in the main thread you asked about hotels and camping. Here's some thoughts on that..

The Sleep Inn Danville is the closest hotel to the track, it's pretty new and has supplies (grocery store and pretty nice little family Italian joint) within walking distance. There are other hotels in Danville.. just avoid the shit hole I mentioned above and you're wife & friend will still be with you after your hotel stay.

The Lodge at VIR or the Hospitality Suites are also an option. The Lodge has the nicer rooms with the jacuzzi tubs however the Hospitality rooms are ON pit in above the garages and that means you have a great view of pit in and bikes coming out of the last turn onto the main straight. The only problems with staying at VIR is there is no room service or easy access to .. well.. anything, you at the track and when they close.. well.. your there and that's it.

As for camping, I'd contact PTT and see if they have arranged it as an option for their event. If yes, then VIR has some nice areas to pitch a tent. Or some folks will stay in their trailers in the paddock. There are showers available in the North paddock right in the 'Pagoda' building across from the tech shed.

Power is available as well for a fee. Not sure how much it is, but I'm sure a quick call to VIR would tell you.

Hope that helps..

Last time I was there, the fee for power was $20 for the day. They give out a "strap" to put on the end of your cord to let them know you paid. I passed on that "deal".

I'm in at the owner level! Thanks for the tip about signing in at the Buell website!!

Guess I'll dig thru the threads and see where a good place to stay the night before.

Now I need to convince myself that I should drive the truck and not just ride down. I really despise the truck with gas prices the way they are.

Pete is already jonsing for a Buell, he usually rides a Warrior. But he practically stole the Superhawk. It has race fai......it is easier to say that the bike is barely street legal! It was 'Built' by a proffesional racer. Pete is still learning the leaning curve so this will do him some good.
We'll have to wait and see how the wife likes it. She usually works 3rd shift nurseing so the tiredness comes and goes.
How can I get in touch with the lodge at the track? I've looked on a couple of the websites but seen no info.
Thanks for the help, I have a feeling your agreat source of info for this event, or at least will be!

Jim, here's a link for contact info at the Lodge:

LINK

I don't know if Blu has an "inside" contact. He does seem to be curiously knowledgeable about most things VIR.

LOL!

I'm not sure if you could say I have an 'inside' contact over there.. but with all the time I stay there.. between ASRA/CCS/AMA as well as Track days and a few other things.. Well, I'm there at least (on average) 6-8 times in a year. So I've gotten to know some of the staff along with the lay of the land so to speak.

I even know a few other things out there.. such as..

The cart track ROCKS! Oh and they are currently getting new carts for rentals. The ones they have right now have taken a beating over the last couple of years, so it's about time. Wonder if there are enough of us there on Tuesday.. if we couldn't get a couple hours there? Of course, there is the chance that 'others' will be renting the facility.. I know who else is going to be there during my next stay.. As always.. expect there to be 'others' on the South course while we're on North..

Just a thought.. or two..

If a room is available, it's usually between $89 and $109 a night. Price also varies a little with the event you are attending. For really big events like AMA you can't get a room there at all, AMA has the whole place for their Sr. Staff types.

If you're camping I'm not sure if there is much of an additional fee, except for electricity. They may have a small charge for camping but I'm sure it'd be way less then the lodge or hospitality room.

Last I heard, there wasn't much left unrented for the days we'll be there since there are two large groups coming in for that period of time.

Well.. I'm so anxious that I'm not concentrating on work.. Damn!

But I was thinking, we should start our 'official' planning for Wednesday, Robin brought it up yesterday once we got back from a little ride..

So.. Here's a thought.. if everyone is good with it.. then I guess this'll be our 'official' paddock plan.. At least until the day of..

Robin and I will already be there as will Tank. So we've already got a few folks to start stuff up.. VIR will not let us into the North Paddock until at least 5pm (to allow the other renters to get all their time in) but once they do let us in.. I could try and park my trailer in the paddock close to the Tech Barn between it and the North Tower (race control). With any luck, we'll then have that area to start populating as folks start rolling in.

I don't have anything major to put up, but if you'll look for a Gold Ford Explorer with the trailer being a Kendon Standup two rail.
If my little blue EZup type tent is working I'll try to have that up as early as possible as well.

My Firebolt is the one in the picture in my profile (only I think I have the black wheels on it now). Robin's Blast is yellow and on the tail is a 'Bumble Buell' sticker.

What time is everyone planning on arriving?

And lastly... can we get a head count?

Robin and I. - 2 riders.
Tank + ? . -

For those still curious about camping the night before.. Call VIR @ 434-822-7700 and ask about the camping situation.

Like I said, there are some nice places to put a tent/camper as well as (sometimes) camping in the paddock in a vehicle.

Sounds great Ras! I'll be traveling solo.

I've got one NOBODY could miss...

My Purple(brandywine, actually) V-nose trailer, towed by an older black Cherokee.

I also have a 12x12 blue pop-up canopy.

That's good news about being able to drop the trailer the night before. Better chance of getting a good spot in the paddock.

ANXIOUS??? you want to talk Anxious??
I swear I started vacation last Thursday. Today I had a small computer problem, but instead of thinking simple, I was ready to start chucking stuff out the window.(close call on the window part)

I'll definitely be there Wednesday morning with my brother-in-law in his black F150 and enclosed trailer in tow. I'll be riding my red Firebolt, probably #83. We're still unsure at this point if his 999 will make it. I'll try to talk him into bringing his SuperDuke, but I don't know if he'll go for it.

As an aside, I heard a little something about 25 1125Rs being at VIR during the 12th and 13th. It should be a good day. : )

8 Riders...

And counting..
Looks like we'll have a decent spread for 'our' pit area... If we're all pitting together.. (which a bunch of us will be, I'm sure.)

And yes, I'm sure there will be a bunch of 1125s there.. for various reasons. }}
