Tank,
It was a cold Winter evening last year. The darkness was so black it was like being swallowed by deep space itself. Nuts and I sat side by side with our backs against a tree waiting for the silence we had shattered by our approach to once again engulf the woods.
After a few minutes the creatures of the night were once again on the move so I started to gently call to them, serenading them with the sounds of a rabbit whos' fate had been sealed in a gruesome fashion.
As we sat there both of us picked up a shadow coming at us from the front. Nuts immediately illuminated the beast with our light just in time to see that it was an owl fast approaching. That thing swooped right towards us before realizing that we were a bit too big to capture and consume. By the time it had come to this realization it was too late to change his flight path so it flew directly between our heads narrowly missing us with its' razor sharp talons!
In an instant we both realized how quickly the hunter can become the hunted.

The above is a true representation of the accounts of that evening (or at least how I like to remember them ).

458 miles in two days. Departed from Hollins road at 1:30. We decided to take Route 11 to get outta town; Bam roadblock. Uh oh I know my inspection sticker is tucked well away in my makeshift saddlebags. The lead rider passes muster and gets gone quick before the P.O. notices the radar detector. Long story short I got a ticket for no inspection sticker after I showed him the sticker on its plate and throwing in the family LEO mention. I even attached the plate and he still wouldn't budge. He was nice about it but I hope his significant other gets a whopper of a ticket and the LEO screws 'em good. I'll be heading to court late September to plead my case, that is bound to be cheaper than $91 dollars. After that fiasco we hammered the throttle and I go to play catch-up for the next 155 miles. Seth and Dave are excellent riders, not unlike some other clowns on this board. I enjoy a good humbling experience and there was no shortage yesterday. We set camp and rolled out for a hot roast beef sandwich with collard greens and mashed taters. I did have the chocolate pie for desert as they were out of baked peaches. On the 11 miles back we stopped for ice, wood and malted beverages. A good conversation ensued and lights were indeed out by 00:15. I awoke this morning hangover free and set about striking camp. Packed and loaded for breakfast of french toast with bacon. Said my farewell's as the other riders were staying another day and expecting the arrival of the remainder of the TVR crew. I took 33 over into Harrisonburg and if you haven't ever done that..... you might want to think about it. That road is a tire shredding blast! Moseyed south and picked up the BRP into home. FoghornLeghorn ran flawlessly and delivered the required miles of smiles. I fricken love that thing! NUTS

Jim,
No girls but perhaps you can talk Ole' Nuts into a thong and some pasties whilst he is wrasslin' a fish to shore .

Nuts,
Good ride report!
Guess I need to get the Buell and car inspected! Last time I got a ticket for expired inspection it was only $15.00 plus $25.00 court cost. I guess with all the new laws they are trying to bleed people dry on everything.

Fellas, Jackie and I are about to embark on the first of many "Farm Runs." We'll be spending a night out under the stars on land that is near as we can call to our own. Thanks Pop! Plans have been made for pan fried ribeye steaks, potato and onions. Looks like it could be a bit chilly even. This is NUTS signing out.

Nuts,
The Food Lion only had 1 pack of 3 small ribeyes. Plenty of sirloin and round steak but no good cuts. I bought them but it ain't much. We may have to stop and get another pack somewhere. I did get the spuds but left off the onion to avoid any potential for a unplanned visit to the local clinic.
I also forgot paper plates so if you have any laying around you may want to bring a few.
We forgot to go to the club and get firewood so if you have any dry pieces at the house you may want to throw that in your truck as well.
Is there any internet service up there? Maybe I can bring the laptop and we can hook the fellas' up with a live streaming broadcast of our camping misadventures .

Ordered a new toy the other day.
A Palm Tungsten E2, so I don't have to drag the whole computer down to the basement to do diag. on the bike, and I can take it anywhere! Should be here by now, I'm starting to get worried.

Have fun!

Nuts,
After the temp hit 103 I called the doc and they said come on in.
Two hours later blood work comes back and I walk out with a script for some Doxycycline. Lyme disease is the official diagnosis however he did say there is a slight chance of it being another tick borne disease. No worries though he said the meds will knock out any of them.
Good news is the Dr. seems to think all will be well. Bad news, I am stuck inside for 10 straight days . No bow, no fishing, no gun club and no riding. He said the muscle and joint pain is from the bacteria and not from riding in your stud mobile like we thought.
Looks lile my camping carreer is over. If this would have happened while we were away I would be absolutely freakin' out. I'm still going to the rendevous but will be cruising home. I have yet to figure out the logistics of hunting Pops' spread.

I guess I'll just have to buy another motorbike. The camping sure was fun while it lasted. I think you'll have to wait until Pops gets the house up before WE have a field of our own. As for me... I'll be representing the "Fast&Loose" solo on the KNZ Farm. Sorry about the sickness but I have a project to occupy me most of next week. I'm building a Tuono killer. Shopping for some exhaust as we speak. NUTS

Fellas, I'm going with a Superbike bar conversion for Foghorn. I always liked the 2002-2004 Tuono's but without any dealer support it just wasn't ever worth it. I'm hoping to get some fairing mods done this winter and clean up the tail with the "perfect" exhaust. The Killer part comes from my extended warranty of four years. I'd like to put 50k on the chicken and the thought of doing it while under warranty is oh so devious. BWAAAHAAAAA. NUTS

Nuts,
Be very careful HOW you change the handling of "Foghorn".Radical fairings without the proper suspension changes could prove unforgiving at speed. You don't want "Foghorn" to develop a nasty temper.Tuono killers have to be more than skin deep. You can make it look like one, but to be one is a lot harder and expensive.....etc....etc......Charlie

I'm still here. Sometimes lucid sometimes only half way. Much of the past 72 hours has been quite dreamlike. No hallucinations but not quite real either. My temp broke someetime last night and droped from over 104 to 100 in a matter of 30 minutes which resulted in a case of the sweats that drenched the bed down into the mattress.
Nuts,
I vaguely remember talking to you the other day and you mentioned Blacksburg as a possible destination for the Florida contingency correct?
Anyway,
My head hurts so bad I don't wanna talk because my own voice sends me over the edge. Mom and Cindy have done real well shuttling the kids between relatives and friends to keep things quiet.
To sum it up fellas' this has probably been the worst several days of my life. Pain so intense I can easily say it is the worst I have ever experienced. Say what you want Nuts but this has been some BAD business.
Since this is my second go around with a tick borne illness I am definately going to be keeping a more intense vigil while enjoying outdoor activities. Taped pants and shirt cuffs with ample repellant will now be a mandatory piece of my outdoor kit.
Never occurred to me that this could happen twice so I thought I was pretty much safe. I STRONGLY urge you guys to take some simpe precautions if you venture into the woods or fields. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

You know instead of a piercing, how about a well placed tick tattoo as a reminder not to go in the woods without protection.Just a thought......Charlie
