Garrett,

I'm between E. Maiden Rd and NC150. Pumpkin Center VFD is 1 mile from my house and it's 1 mile to E. Maiden road.

We may be running up 181 to 221 and Blowing Rock Saturday, but I won't know for sure until Friday.

Whoa?!? You'd think that bit of information would have come up sometime during the 6 months of antibiotics and anti-tuberculosis treatment. I can only imagine how that conversation would have went: "no, Doc, I don't need these pills . . . I just swallowed a jimmy-hat"

Hey Bigdaddy, what time you all think you will head out for that Blowing Rock ride on Saturday? Not sure I can get away from the family, but I'll definitely ask the wife. That is if you don't mind another Buell coming along. Those have got to be my favorite roads.

Spike, I'm going to VIR. I'll see you up there. There is a thread going over on the DC-MD-VA Storm Front regarding the event:

So, between finishing up school and graduating and work and applying to grad school and getting ready to move to the mid-west I haven't checked badweb or the buell site since the 2008 launch. Checked it today and saw there is a water-cooled buell.

What a crazy world we live in. (I'm sure you guys already went through this whole debate, but I missed it)

Matt,

You're always welcome to ride with us. If I get to go we'll be going up about 10:00 AM. Right now I have no work to do this weekend -- subject to change with one phone call.

I'll PM you some contact info.

Bigdaddy,

Thanks for the invite. I'll see how things go this week to determine if I'll be able to go Sat. I am in the process of installing tile floors in our kitchen and laundry room after work everyday. the wife denies it but I think she planned this as payoff for buying the bike......(nah just kiddin)

You needn't explain them women to me,,,,I'll never get it : ) Somebody from my house rides a Buell everyday so you shouldn't have issues finding a Bueller close by. I was out on the tuber this PM for 100 miles just cruising around -- the M2 still moves me (rather quickly for an old guy too.)

I'm doing some work in RTP soon and if you can get away we can ride over that way and get JlNance out of the house and let you meet the Flat Land C3 bunch.

you meet the Flat Land C3 bunch.

You know I was in the mountains just two weeks ago. They were not the Appalachian Mountains though. I was in Puerto Rico in the only Rain Forest the US Forestry Service has, The Caribbean National Forest or "El Yunque" as we Puerto Ricans call it. The roads were not to bad either. I was stuck in a rental Jeep though.

G2 - Let us know when you are at RTP. Maybe Kristi and I can get away and meet up for Dinner with you, Jim and RAM + who ever else shows up.

XB9ser-I took a good look at the tail section and found the whole rear fender/tag bracket has been removed and a homemade bracket been installed. It does look clean and fairly stock except the rubber mounts are extremely compressed to hold the new bracket into place.

Bigdaddy-I'd love to try to get away....its been a while since I've even been in that part of the state. at the rate I'm going I might be able to steal away some sat. I'll just have to let you know come fri night or evening. Its funny, we used to live within 1 mile of each other.

just a general question to everyone.....is 4000 rpm @ 70 mph about right for gearing on a uly?? I personally don't know and if it is well thats cool. gonna try to ride today and dodge the showers. good day to all.

Carlos, Sweet pics! I'm hopeful that the stars will stay in alignment and I'll be able to work a few back to back contracts in RTP -- only time will tell.

If nothing changes by close of business today I'll spend Saturday in the mountains.

"Its funny, we used to live within 1 mile of each other." Then you've seen some Buells running around : ) (maybe it wasn't registering then : ) )

It is if you're running in 4th gear. If you're seeing that in 5th gear, your bike has had the XB9 primary chain mod. I'm thinking about doing that mod. It helps low speed operation of the bike. I was worried about the increased RPMs at higher speeds, and the effect on gas mileage. Then I did an experiment:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/279307.html?1179794793

So now I never put the bike in 5th gear.

No that is high. My Uly runs around 3500rpm at 70mph and just over 80mph at 4000rpm.

alrighty everyone....I'm gonna have alot of questions since I'm new to the Buell thing. Heres some background info: I changed oil and filter and trans fluid today at 948 miles. I will take bike to dealer for tps zeroing and clutch adjustment check to finish 1000 mile first service.

1. Why in the world would there be about 3 tablespoons of oil in my air box??

2. How do I know if the previous owner installed the 07 airbox? is there any distinctions between the 06 and 07 pieces?

3. what is the piece on top of the airbox with the cable attached and why is the cable flopping? (I suspect since the bike has the race ecm this is the driver for the exhaust butterfly and it has been rendered useless....I am running a drummer pipe btw.)

4. Why would my bike just cut off randomly when coming to a stop? (This is a rolling stop with the clutch pulled in.)

I checked again on the way to work this morning and found that with my speedo on 70 the rpms were about ~3500 not where I thought previously. I must have been traveling a little faster than I thought. This would put me right in line with you M2nc.

thanks for the info JlNance.....I have found that my bike seems to run much better in 4th gear but like the others I am inclined to think that it would hurt fuel mileage. I will have to perform the test as you did and just check the results.

sorry about the lengthy post but I would like a couple suggestions if anyone would be so inclined.

thanks in advance for all your help already.

1. You've been spooged. A normal thing when ridden hard and with no catch-can, or reroute, that's where it goes. Easy fix and it'll get better with mileage.

2. The '07 has less ABS plastic (yep, more/bigger holes.)

3. Interactive exhaust valve control cable isn't used w/Drummer

4. I'd guess the TPS reset will correct/fix this.

I'd recommend that you never hesitate to ask whatever question(s)-- no need to reinvent the wheel : )

1. Why in the world would there be about 3 tablespoons of oil in my air box??

The crankcase vents up there, and will dump a little oil. It happens to a larger extent if you overfill the oil, but even when things are as they should be, there will be a little oil up there.

2. How do I know if the previous owner installed the 07 airbox? is there any distinctions between the 06 and 07 pieces?

The 06 airbox has exactly 4 holes in it for air. If you have more than that, you have the 07.

3. what is the piece on top of the airbox with the cable attached and why is the cable flopping? (I suspect since the bike has the race ecm this is the driver for the exhaust butterfly and it has been rendered useless....I am running a drummer pipe btw.)

You are correct. The cable is for the exhaust, which is not used for the race ECM.

4. Why would my bike just cut off randomly when coming to a stop?

I'm not sure. Will it start back up w/o cycling the kill switch? If not,
check to make sure the BAS recall was done. It's definitly not supposed to do
that.

thanks for the info JlNance.....I have found that my bike seems to run much better in 4th gear but like the others I am inclined to think that it would hurt fuel mileage. I will have to perform the test as you did and just check the results.

I would love to know the results if you do. I've never had a chance to repeat that experiment. It would be interesting to get more data points. Also, for that run, I was going around 70. If I had been going significantly faster, I'm sure 5th would have been better, but I'm not sure how much faster that would have to be.

sorry about the lengthy post but I would like a couple suggestions if anyone would be so inclined.

It's no problem, thats why we are here.

The '06 air box has the four holes on the right side of the air box. The 07 has holes on the front and left side of the box.

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)reset is part of the 1000 mile service. You also need to check your idle. It should be just above 1000 RPM. Many guys report that the idle is low before the first service which will cause the bike to stall.

I was just admiring your way of numbering the responses, rather than quoting the original. It's much more concise. : )

Ribeye, rare, sweet potato

Sounds like a plan. : ) BTW, you don't own a Blast any longer do you? Do you still have the service manual?

Your daughter wanted an R1 didn't she? What does she think of the 1125r? She is one of the few people I know who probably wouldn't have drivers license problems if she had that bike. : )

My wife equates concise with rude (and sometimes much worse.)

I sold the last Blast and let the new owner have the manual and a big load of parts. It was just sitting and nobody was riding it.

The daughter's all pumped about Dad getting a 1125R ASAP so she can test it out. I don't know if she'll end up with one or not -- she's had it really bad for that black and yellow R1 since the first pic was published. Following her across Lincoln County, which is very long east to west, can be much fun and it goes really fast : )

I have a TqW that goes 200+,,,,,can't remember how high it goes and have no problems with passing it around. We can work out some kind of delivery or something if necessary.
