Are we gonna try to work in some fishing or just a street ride and dirt ride?

As much as I would like to watch the Greatest Angler in action, it looks like time may run short for a fishing expedition. We shall see, though.

Besides, I can fish here, but I have yet to find any mountains anywhere around??

Sooo, where-abouts do ya'll live in the great valley of Roanoke??(don't post your address, just pick a number....and please, don't throw darts at your monitor)

Tank,
I live close to #1. The only reason I know that is I see Rt 116 and I live right off that. Honestly I don't have a clue what number Nuts is located close to since I can't make out any street names.

I live about where the "K" is in ROANOKE CITY. Washed 2 bikes today and one chain. That is dirty work! Then I had to tackle the lawn. What a holiday, I'm going to start assembling the lumber for the treestand. I need something else to do than ride. NUTS

Did you wash the INSIDE of the fairing on the Hawk? If not then it is only partially clean and is not being given the loving care it deserves.
Are we gonna construct a big platform style stand that we both can sit in? If so I will cover some of the lumber cost as well as provide what labor I can. Besides it will give us an excuse to go check out the property. I wanna see what type of creepy crawlies I can find while it is still warm.
Did you notice if there is any old pieces of wood or tin laying around that might make for good flipping?

Charlie, Thanks for the . I am getting more confident and keeping the cockiness at bay. It is always reassuring to ask our friend if he feels like he's pushing his limits: he responds "Not even a bit." Extremely belittling but I'd rather it be that way. I am learning to ride smoother on the road too!

Jack, what's happening Friday?

Tank, What's happening Friday? Are you going shopping? I know the ache of a new want! I have a friend who once said something to the effect of... "Necessity is nothing in life. Want is all there is. You choose an outcome and reason yourself into the decision." I have yet to prove him wrong.

As usual ......NUTS

Nuts,
Sounds like a wise friend. He forgot about the part that describes where, exactly, to put the "outcome". I need to get rid of some "stuff". I should probably be turning assets into cash at this point, but I'm not there yet.

As far as Friday....I dunno?
I layed low today hoping for a note from the dealer or the bank. At least the dealer sent me a note on Tues. to let me know they haven't forgotten about me.

From the bank....naaddda/nuthin/jack/squat.
That kinda pisses me off, and I sent them a nice note, too!

Not too worried at this point, though. Word on the street is the 08' TW won't deliver until late August, although the website says "available July 07'".

I could get an 07', but I really don't like the blue.

Nuts,
We got the funeral tomorrow and plus it is our 11 year wedding anniversary.
Cindy will be tied up most of the afternoon doing family business so a ride is in order. Not a long ride mind you but a ride to ALL the local gun shops to check out my next purchase. For some reason a 25/06 is calling my name in a big way.
If you are in then give me a holler around 2:00.
Bye

Jackie, what say you? I already did 100 miles on Foghorn; are we going to get fishy or muddy? If you bail I'm gonna leave the next boxy in the road to get run over! Deal with that, punk. Whew, I am exciteable today. Must be the Buell good news. I would be REALLY pissed if I was an owner of a 2007 Ulysses right now.

Doin' what I gotta' do, brutha. Sorry about the rants, I'll try to keep from dragging down the board in my fits of weakness(usually after a few )

Spent the last couple days(like everybody else here) nail-biting for the "Big Announcement".

After I saw the video, I felt like throwing rocks at my bikes, and the T_Dub just seemed so insignificant for a bit.....

But then I realized, I didn't buy my Buells to be the fastest, or to race, or to keep up with Jonny Honkawzuki. I bought them because they fit who I am, and how I like to ride.

Went for a ride with the local Buell crew today, and had a great time. Very little talk of the new stuff. Everyone was happy riding what they were riding.

So now I'm right back where I was a couple days ago. Bitching about the fact that neither the dealer, or the bank has contacted me. It's been a week, fercrissakes. Good thing buying a bike is not a matter of life or death!

My input as if it matters.
Overall effort - A+
Powerplant and specs - A+
Overall looks - D
The whole bike just looks out of balance. The large fairing and radiator shrouds make the front look too bulbous for the narrow tail section.
I can truly say with some relief that I am not lusting for the new Buell. I thought for sure I would be spending the day talking myself out of one. Glad the decision was made for me by the styling folks at BMC !

Jackie,
I totally agree about that front end. I thought it might grow on me, but it aint' happened yet.

I have a feeling that anybody who talks themselves into throwing a leg over and going for a test ride, might be blinded by performance, and not care what it looks like.

A fishing report will be made available for your reading pleasure this evening. I think we are even going to try some frog gigging.
Has the potential for some good mishaps so check in later this evening.

Nuts with a spear,(on Friday the 13th) now that has promise. And the "Ole Pro" has been know to have a problem with slippery rocks, yes this could be a good Fri.13th tale.
Tank,
I'm not sure I could handle that much excitement. We don't have state insp. in SC. I sure do miss them.............NOT!
Well I had the Clone out twice today and even ran the race bike down the street with no mishaps. I'm beginning to think the 13th is losing it's bad Carma.......Charlie

The afternoon started with a few dozen minnows and high hopes. As we pulled up to the Riverland Rd. stretch of the Roanoke River we noticed it was still a hair murky from the rain two days ago.
Despite the muddy conditions we decided to give it a try anyway which turned out to be a very good decision (at least on my part ). I suggested we concentrate on fishing the rapids since the water was a bit warm and I knew the Smallies would be stacked in the cool waters of the faster runs.
Nuts first or second cast produced the first fish of the day with me catching one just a second later. As we moved up the river we ran into a particularly fast moving stretch and I began to catch a fish with each cast while looking over to see Nuts fighting a severe backlash. At this point I decide to stop fishing and enjoy me a pinch of snuff while letting him fix his rig so he could catch a few. Well he starts casting and no fish but another nasty backlash within minutes. He finally gets baited back up and hooks into a nice fish that jumps completely clear of the water and then makes a hard run down river peeling line off as it goes. After an epic battle the fish is brought to his side and he reaches down and grabs the line instead of the fish. SNAP, the line breaks and his trophy escapes back into the murky depths from whence it came. I thought the brutha was gonna cry right there but after pouting and a few choice curse words he simply went quiet and tried to tie on another hook. The excitement must have been more than he could handle because it took him literally 7 attempts to get another hook tied on!
After getting it sorted out we decided to finish the trip by walking back to where we had started. By this point the sun had went down which made it even more difficult to see in the muddy water. Three steps in and KIRPLUNK. I slipped and proceeded to flop around like a beached whale trying to get back up. After getting his jollies Nuts helps me up and we carry on. Then it happens, I hook into a NICE Smallie and proceed to fight it with great vigor(to the point of loosening my drag just to prolong the battle and rub it in). Down to our last minnow I look over at Nuts and say " I'm gonna catch one on the last cast". Sure enough the line goes tight and the last fish of the day was in the bag.
Total for the day was Jackie 10-12, Nuts 2 !!
After a quick pitstop at the Arbies for a Beef N' Cheddar we headed back to the house and hit the pond for some frog gigging. As darkness fell and the frogs' eyes became visible Nuts went crazy! He starts stalking around the pond with his spear held high and flashlight in hand, chanting some Aboriginal incantations. The serenity of the evening was soon shattered after his first successful stalk by shouts of "Find me another one, find me another one"! I spent the better part of the next hour shining the light back and forth for him while he looks for a likely victim to impale with his mighty spear.
I literally had to beg to go home before he would give up his quest. We did end up with 8 good looking frogs and decided to split the bounty equally even though Nuts got 6 and I only got 2.
Back at the house it only took one frog to show him how to clean em' and he jumped right in and cleaned his half like a seasoned pro.
All in all it was one of the more enjoyable outdoors adventures I have had in a while.

Charlie,
I think Nuts is enamored with the old timey, country ways of putting food on the table. Next week I'm gonna take him out and run some float lines for snapping turtles and then maybe introduce him to noodling for catfish.
If he catches on as fast as he did with the gigging we may be having a down home catfish fry next Saturday night .

Good tale, indeed.

Charlie,
I believe the ancient ritual of "noodling" goes something like this....

Walk around in murky water, shove your hand in whatever type of hole in the bottom you may run across, and hope there is not a snake waiting for lunch. If luck is on your side, a catfish will try to bite your hand, but instead of the catfish having lunch, you turn the tables and grab it by the mouth, and try your best to hang on until you get it to shore.

I saw it on Discovery channel.
Fairly comical to watch, but not something I would try myself.

Tank,
I'm with you Bud, doesn't sound like my game. When my brother and I were kids, we used to dam up the entrance to a marsh area off of a large creek(tide water)when the tide would go out, you straddle the entrance and catch the catfish with your hands and throw them on the bank.Every once and awhile you would grab an eel, which would scare the s*#t out of you.Charlie

Fellas'
Noodling is fun stuff and relatively safe provided you stick with the right hiding spots. To avoid snakes (which I like catching anyway), snappers and the occasional muskrats simply choose rocks and logs that are completely submerged in slightly running water. Another good spot is on the backside of rocks at the end of a tailrace.
I have never had one try and bite me though. You kinda just gently feel in the crevices and once you find one slowly work towards the head. Once you find the head you either stick your hand in its' mouth or up through the gills and yank her out.
Around here it ain't real productive. Several hours of trying typically only yields a few fish, but man is it exciting.
I once caught a carp that had to have weighed 20 pounds and boy did that thing put up a fight. Thought it was gonna dislocate my shoulder trying to get him to the surface but I finally won.

Tank,
How did the inspection go? Is Tankenstein legal now?

Tank,
The 1125R is what a lot of us have been hollering for.Now that we got it, everybody,(scratch that) a large number of people want to pick it apart before it is even on the road. I'm thrilled with the possibilities it presents, but not crazy about the pic's. I hope it doesn't become Buell's Edsel, that would devastate BMC. I don't think it is going to be the "joy" to work on that the old"Tubers" where, but everything has a price.
I ran into one of your feathery friends back in the sixties when I was running in a sports car rally in Louisiana. Had been dark for about an hour and we rounded a corner at about a hundred or so and he was sitting on the crown of the road clutching a dead rabbit. All I saw was EYES until the last second. Lets just say he didn't suffer, spent the whole next day getting him off my grill and out of my radiator. I'm sure the rabbit thought it was a just ending.LOL..................Charlie
