Hey Eric...

Thanks for the Reply. I ended up calling the forest service and they said the roads were still in bad shape. I opted for 30West out of portland to 101 North. Wet, but what a great road! This summer I'll try 101N to 100 and see how that goes. I did end up on I5 for a lot of the ride, including the trip back south, had to make up time.

Look forward to meeting all @ Splash. If you make it to P town let us know in the PBR room...

Paul

Just a "quickie" while I have a moment between flights....
Wanted to say thanks to Firmanjim and Pam for their hospitality, and for leading us on some great riding! Also Deb, Bob, Funjimmy, Steve, and Mike for waiting up for me. Great times.
Just got in from Memorial Weekend in Detroit with four days abusing my ears, feet, and liver at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Now it's off to Barcelona for some motorcycling in the Pyrenees and the Catalunya USGP race. I'll try and post an update.
Cheers!

Local Bikes

He hasn't gotten around to posting it yet, but the world's fastest blast is soon to be for sale. Some of you may recall this bike, it set some records out at the salt flats, and has been bouncing around for a while in Portlandia. My friend chris is the current owner, and is looking for something that works better for long hauls.

In other local bike news, is there anyone that knows where I can set my wife up on a ride for a lightning low? She's going to be looking for a second bike soon, and I'm trying to get her to take the buell's seriously, but all the standard ones are too tall, and the low ones are too rare. Help?

Hey Lurkers!
Well we finally got a decent ride in. We went for a ride up to Squamish last night. Best night of the year for riding and we were! Jimmy was at a trade show, Eric was fixing his headlight but Stu (YES Stu!), Marc, myself and a couple of newbie buellies had a good ride and some outstanding pizza and local beverages.

Now a question:
Has anyone started any discussions regarding the dates for Border Raid?

No brainer for SPLASH. I'm in. The September long weekend is Sept. 1-3 and I'm getting some pressure from the family to participate in something else.

Harv, I'm afraid the motorcycle gang your a member of can not allow you the time off to miss the BordeRaid Run. Can you please let Gootch know his presence is expected also?
The world famous weilder of the powers of Promethius has once more glued Betty back together! Again! All Hail BobNuts! I think it is possible that she will not rattle apart again this season! This of course would be un-presidented, and much apprieceitated. I cleaned her for the first time in two years (!) and she looks purty good! See ya

Howdy! I am planning to visit my family in Seattle this August. I would like to rent a buell to take my wife and I to the Tenino antique motorcycle show and then to Mt. St. Helens August 18-20th.
Would you know if the Harley shops rent Buells too? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hey DuckBuell, I called around and they don't seem to want
to rent the Buells. The guy in Tacoma said, "we know how people ride that ride Buells..." couldn't really say much to that.

FunJimmy, how did that little wooden box work out for you. You take any pic's?

I get to get my new front tire on. Gota hang her up at Bobs to get the wheel off. She likes being hung by her heels, and tied down in a truck. Like her namesake.

All was wonderful with your special contribution to Sonomafest. Thanks so much, and I hope all has been returned. Totally forgot to bring a camera unfortunately. You know what they say.....What goes on the road stays on the road.

Bob

Looks like a ton of fun, and I'm really relieved to hear that you are staying on the street!

Just got back from 2 days at Miller Motorsport. Wow is that an awesome track. Sooooo fast too. FYI, our second day was influenced by heavy winds with 60 mile gusts. Think you can hold your line with 60 mile cross winds? We won’t let no stinkin wind storm ruin our day.

Harv, Eric

Beer time!!!

Cheers

Loni, wanna be there. Isn't it called the Lakeside Motel?

Took the "new" M2L out yesterday for a ride. Got about 10 miles when the shifter toe-peg fell off. I forgot you need to carry stuff like that and plenty of duct tape when you ride a Buell. The Ducati never needed anything. Oh well, made a new shifter peg and a spare for the bag.

Found a great new road for SPLASH Thursday if anybody is interested. My place is about 2.5 hours South of the Lakeside Motel.
Can you Canucks make another 2.5 hours on your way down this-a-way? Or is that too far? I could always pick you up in Woodland on Thursday morning and do a ride out of there and still do the Friday ride like last year. But would be glad to have you all stay at the Happy Hollow Slug Ranch with me on Wednesday night as well.

SPLASH WEEK like this. Long day Wednesday riding down to my place. Pick up all the Seattle/Tacoma folks on the way. Stay with us at Happy Hollow, hot tub, bbque, homebrew, etc. Thursday, ride neat new roads. Classics in the area. Eat fresh-caught seafood. Friday, run up to somewhere and meet folks who stayed at Woodland and do the Friday route, Rainier to Hwy 53 to the "secret road" from Beaver to Carlton, and back to Woodland for the barbecue and on to traditional SPLASH.
Whaddya think? Doable? Yes. Fun? Hell yes! Are you coming? Ooooh oooh ooooh, I think I am comingggggggggggggggggggggg!

Y'all come too.

FunJimmy, just talked to Brandywine RoadRash yesterday! The little bugger is doin' pretty good. Smiling and everything. He's puttin' together S1 Blackie's old IronHead. Guess it's almost ready to roar! Gona see him next week, so I'll say Hi, and try to get him to commit to SPLASH!
Speaking of S1, the bugger just bought his self a new Sprint! Silver is what I hear. Think it's a '07.
Shotgun, you is right on with that riding schedual! Lookin' forward to seeing your smiling face.

Spain was infreakingcredible!
Pictures are up here: http://s96.photobucket.com/albums/l193/ericsg/Cata lunya%20GP%20Tour/

There's really too much to describe here. The pics should give you a good idea of the riding. The roads are great. The single lane canyon roads were probably the most fun despite the threat of oncoming trucks around blind corners.

The food was amazing. I'm not sure that my stomach has shrunk back to normal size yet.

The scenery, of course, was beautiful. Even when it was raining!

Most of the places we stayed were Paradores, a private/government partnership that turned historic structures into hotels. One of the ones we stayed in, in Cardona, was an 8th century castle. These places are first class, too, but not unreasonable to stay (I think I noted one rate at $140 euro/night).

Then there was the Catalunya MotoGP race. It was insane. 122,000 spectators and I swear 120,000 came on motorcycles! It was so great to see everyone so in to it there. They are passionate about their racing.

Our guides were motorcycle enthusiasts. The lead guide, Marti, races and writes for a Spain weekly motorcycle mag, Motociclismo. I will not hesitate to go on another ride with this company again and would recommend Iberian Moto Tours to anyone looking to ride Spain, France, Italy, or Morocco.

My only regret was the f650gs. Being used to the 125 horses of the Sprint, I quickly got tired of being left behind on the straights. On the plus side, it was light and easily flickable in the twisties. Getting back to the Sprint the other day, it felt really narrow and really heavy.

You will forgive me now if I can't stop talking about it at Splash!

Ok, I took Betty out for a shake down run today. None of this speed limit crap! And it was good. Very, very good indeed! I think between the magik performed by BobNuts, and the 'service' I gave to the b*itch I may have a winner! Plus I have a new, round tire on the front! Flew by two cops taking a nap and they didn't even see us! We were in the SlipStream, and streamed right on by! So for now it's on for BordeRaid!

Called Gootch at work today, and told him we are looking forward to his smiling presence at SPLASH. Just got home from a freakin' good dinner with the wife, sans children, and am lookin' to get lucky tonight! So for now my fingers are crossed...
