As it stands now, my son and I will be going to the 'gathering' at the Cracker Barrel Sunday. We are going over from Columbia. Have not decided on the route yet but may favor back roads instead of superslab. Anyone want to join us? Yellow Blast! and Grey Katana....

If anybody is in the market for a good 03XB9R (Blue)with only 6700 miles, just traded it in on a new truck at the Ford Dealership in Mt. Pleasant.Looks good sitting in the showroom.
Check my profile for extra's. Hated to do it, but needed a new truck. Still have the Cyclone..........Charlie

Hey guys.. i'm a newbie to the group but am still debating the meet on Sunday..

Rcontroler: if I do decide to go.. I wouldn't mind riding into Columbia to meet you guys then backroads to Orangeburg. I'm in Florence and the fastest way there for me is down 95, but I'd much rather drive a little further to ride in a group, especially with more buells

Hey V12tiger. If you want to ride down with us on some backroads, come on down. Bring some riding buds too.
I mapped out a backroad route, part of which I know well and part I don't. Half the fun is exploring new areas. About as twisty as I could find around these parts; which isn't too impressive but beats the Interstates. I guess maybe it is about an hour give or take from my area to the Gathering place @ Cracker Barrel. If we want to get there by 11:30, I figure you plan on meeting us around 10:30 or so. If that is OK, meet us at I-26 exit 111-A which is US Hwy. #1 west. There is a LOWES store on the left just after you get on Hwy. #1 (about 1/8 mile). (33.97996 degrees N 81.11047 degrees W) We can meet in the parking lot and head out from there.
Let me know how this will work out for you and see you Sunday.

Hi LaFayette,

The weather's looking pretty good for tomorrow in Orangeburg: no rain during the day, slight chance of thundershowers after ~5 PM, high of 93 deg. F.

Thunder Tower HD/Buell, located east of Columbia, SC is having their 1-year anniversary party this weekend; they're about 50 miles from our meet location. Some of us may ride up there after lunch. Depending on your return destination, there are decent routes out of Orangeburg for a nice Sunday afternoon ride.

Looking forward to seeing y'all tomorrow.

Hugh

Hey guys. Enjoyed meeting and riding with all of you today. Wish it had been about 10 degrees cooler, but otherwise it was a great day to ride.

For the rest of you guys from the Charleston area who chose to take the interstate home, I wish I'd ridden with you. I know a good series of backroads for the route back (601 to 267 to 15) to the lowcountry; I've been this route by car and bike many times. About 40 miles from Thundertower, about 10 miles after I turned off of 601 onto 267 near the very small community of Lone Star, SC, as I slowed for a railroad crossing the rear of the bike hit a sharp bump. "What the hell was THAT?" I thought, as I hadn't seen anything lying in the road. Well about 100 yards past the railway crossing the back end of the bike starts feeling squirrely and I think "Oh crap." I get off the road OK, and by the time I get off the bike, the tire is completely flat. I push the bike forward and look at the tire about 4 times until finally I find a 2 inch long gash between two of the tread blocks. I had a Stop-n-go tire plugger kit and an air compressor in my tailbox, but I had a feeling they wouldn't do much good. I put two plugs in it and pumped up the tire. It was leaking pretty good. When I cut the plugs off flush, they popped INTO the tire. I called home and told my wife to put the loading ramp and tie down straps in the truck and head this way.

OK, I'm stuck in the hot sun with no shade visible for several hundred yards in either direction and it's gonna be at least an hour and a half before my wife shows up. It occurs to me I'm gonna have to try to get some air to stay in this tire or we'll catch hell putting it on my truck. This time I put three plugs into the gash, pump it up, and don't cut them off completely flush. Hmm, seems to be holding a little better. I remember a store at a crossroads ~1 mile back, I figure I'll limp back there and maybe I can at least find something to drink and a place to sit in the shade until my wife shows up. I suit up, fire up the bike, carefully turn around and ease up to ~45 MPH- the bike seems to be doing OK. I slow to about 5 MPH to cross the railroad (I sure don't need a bent rim now). Just past the crossing, I notice a ~2" square x 1/4" thick piece of steel lying in the road. I'd say that's what ate my tire.

Another 1/2 mile up the road, and there's the store and the crossroads. Bad news- not open. Good news- massive hickory tree, nice concrete parking lot, plenty of shade and an old chair by the front door. An hour later, my wife shows up and we get the bike loaded. I got home about 7 PM.

All things considered, I made out OK. I'll be ordering a new Pirelli Scorpion tomorrow, so I'm out of $100+, but I didn't wreck the bike, get hurt, or die of heat prostration.

Hey the bike is an "adventure" tourer, right? I guess that was my adventure for the day.

Hugh,
Really glad you made it home in one piece, you never know how things can turn on you.
Enjoyed seeing all the new people, didn't realize we had that many Buellers in the area.
Lafayette and I took the interstate and we split at I95, he set a much faster pace than we did going up to Orangeburg.LOL I didn't think he would push that bike that hard. Hope he made it to Savannah.
Hope everybody elses trip home wasn't as eventful as yours. And maybe we can do it again before the summer is out.....Charlie

Houghlysses:

Sorry to hear about the tire ...

This is a good reason to always ride with another BUELLer ...

Check www.cyclegear.com ...

Charlie and "i" rode back toward Charleston to I-95 ...

The rest as far as "i" understood went to
THUNDER H-D/BUELL ...

Maybe there could be some comments on this Dealership ???

At our table there was one CAR MECHANIC, one from HOME LAND SECURITY, and two RETIRES for varied confersations ...

Who sat at your table ???

Be sure to continue to build the E-MAIL LIST letting everyone know when a new BUELLer is found with name, city, and e-mail address ...

When "i" get back home everyone will get a up-dated list from the Gathering ...

The next time "i" get back to Savannah another Gathering can be put together ...

"BUT" until then one of you'll can step up and put a Gathering together ...

ie: small local groups could ride to a gathering picking up those along the way ...

Sharing "INFO", where to get parts, good deals, and what Dealers are GOOD or "BAD" ...

LaFayette,
Glad you made it back OK. That traffic was bad. I ran thru some rain right after we split, hope it held off till you got back.
We had a pretty good group, didn't know there was that many in the area, had a good time. Look forward to your next trip up.Charlie

I'll throw out a few comments about Thunder Tower HD/Buell. 8 of us (9 counting a passenger) rode there after lunch and arrived a little after 2 PM (?). This was Thunder Tower's one-year anniversary and it must have been well-advertised. The parking lot was packed with people and bikes, about 95% Harleys with very few other brands. We appeared to be the only Buells in attendance.

Parking was pretty scarce, but an attendant pointed out we could park under the covered entrance for their service entrance so we circled back and parked there.

Inside, they had quite a few Buells (maybe 8 or 10) on display, including at least a couple of TT's, a Uly, a City Cross, and a Firebolt. They had very recently added a Buell T-shirt rack; they had 3 different Buell t-shirts.

A band was outside playing, and they had various food and drink vendors (nothing free that I saw). I noticed a few people checking out our bikes. We left around 3 PM .

It's good to see they had a nice selection of Buell bikes, and that they've finally (after almost one year) started carrying a little Buell clothing.

Hugh,
Glad to hear of a some what local HD dealer getting a good Buell report.I have always been favorable to Harleys since a kid.But have been so alienated by HD since buying a Buell that I'd rather ride anything other than a HD. The dealer that I bought my (2) Buells from was great, at the time, didn't realize what a rarity that was.
I'll be stopping at Thunder Tower to replace my wore out Buell T-shirt collection.Charlie

Well, I pulled the S3 out of "retirement" this morning and rode it to work. It is definitely a much rougher/rawer ride than the Uly; it's amazing how much difference there is in the two bikes. Of course, I had forgotten what it feels like to be able to get both feet down solidly at a stop!

I read somewhere on the net this morning, that scientists reported that the Earth tipped slightly on its axis yesterday, pigeons starting flying in circles randomly, and that Harley riders in the southeast complained of strange sensations for a ~1 hour period.

I figure we exceeded "Buell critical mass" for a short time there....

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Hugh,

Other than that the ride went great. I decided to take I-20 home and the wind must of been blowing right because I had a great time running on the freeway, wasn't hard at all.

The only problem I had is that my arms are now crispy red from the sun, should have brought some sun screen.

I put 180 miles on my bike yesterday and hasn't even hit low fuel light (but I bet its close) By my estimation thats close to 50mpg! It was full when I left Aiken.

We'll defiantly have to do this again

Nick,

Glad you had a good ride. These XB's are pretty thrifty once they get broken in. I was right at 50 MPG for the trip from Summerville to Thunder Tower; my Uly has a little over 3000 miles now.

Yea, that sun was brutal yesterday. Moron me forgot his cap again. I tried to keep my head out of the sun Sunday but my face and scalp were pretty pink Sunday night.

We definitely need to line up some more group rides this summer, and maybe we can have a group go up for next year's March Badness.

Our trip back to Columbia went well. No shards of steel in the roadway either. I figured my mileage around 62 per gallon but then I only have one lung.
Really enjoyed meeting other 'Buellers' and hope no one minds a Blast tagging along...I love that little scoot. Heck it got me started riding again and also works as a medium for meeting great folks with similar interests too!! Yes let's do this again!!
