Jackie, I think you nailed it.

I know that is a fairly LARGE bike, but ol' Nuts still makes it look tiny.

Sure is purdy.

Whew, I sure had a productive day! Over dinner last night I told my wife "I don't want or need another motorcycle right now, I am completely content." Last thought that drifted through my mind as my head hit the pillow was of the 2005 SuperHawk at the local dealer. Don't ask me why but when I awoke at 0514 it was still on my mind. Bought new in August of 06 and traded in last week with 900 miles. So I moseyed on over and asked for a test ride. Ummm, well, this thing kinda has a motor that no other bike I've ridden ever has. Smooooooth, and steady powerband all the way up to the soft rev limiter at 9.5k. I did not get it that high but suffice to say 6th gear is of absolutely no use unless you're on the salt flats! The shadow is pristine, unmodified and perfect. I came to my senses for a bit and rode the XR over to see if Seth had any sage advise. To my delight we were both struck with the obvious decision. Back over to the Honda dealer and as a way of putting the inevitable off I ask about a test ride of a Suzuki DL650 Vee-Strom. A test was granted and that bike was quite nice, all except for the brakes. Really bad! As I park and wander a bit mulling over the decision a friendly smile is found when The-raven shows up on his lunch break to give a little unsuspecting support. I walked him out to see if he could find any rot on the bike and in the middle of our conversation I came upon a wonderful recollection: It was very soon after meeting my wife-to-be and we were in her car at a particular intersection when a 1997 red Superhawk pulled up next to us. I told her "That is the bike I want! Liquid cooled V-twin, half fairing oh man, one day I'll get one of those!" So today is that day. I got a fair deal and am quite srprised at the overall fit and finish of the bike. It's a cracker and that motor is oh so enjoyable. Well, I'm off to wash the beast seeing as though I hit a little bit of rain on my way back through the BRP. If it isn't crystal clear by now....I AM NUTS!

I just noticed in the second pic, Jason is not smiling at the camera, he's looking at the bike like a cow staring at a new fence.(like WTF, maybe I am NUTS?))

Congrats on the new bike, Dude!

Seth,
You are welcome to join me and Nuts on a herping trip. With the dry weather and heat I can't guarantee we'd see anything but we can try our best.
Just let Nuts know when you want to go and we'll work out the particulars.

I have to say my mind is reeling with ideas of a Triumph 675. After inspecting and sitting on Nuts' new steed I am left feeling like the poor Bolt' looks and feels like a toy compared to it.
All the high tech gadgetry hanging off his bike has me absolutely infatuated.
What ramifications will Nuts' new purchase have on my financial security ?

Nuts,
Enjoy your new ride, it should get you across the country with ease. It will be a new experience from what you have been riding. Our riding appetite goes in cycles, you may or may not cycle back. That's why there are so many different type bikes.Learn all you can about your ride, your getting home may depend on it.Fancy gagets are useless if the bike won't run.read up on problems for that model and what type of support is around.Charlie

I have been checking around a little though.

Nuts,
The pressure is off. First loss of the season tonight which gives us a 11-1 record with 3 games left. WHEW glad it finally happened!
I had one of my assistant coaches sitting in the dugout saying in front of the kids "they just flushed our undefeated season down the toilet". Not the kind of attitude and poor sportsmanship I am trying to instill into these little girls.
I ordered us two of the gold pans tonight so some prospecting is in the very near future. I also want to ride by the creek again to see if we can track down one of those Cricket Frogs before they stop breeding. Maybe we can road cruise it after a thunderstorm one evening.

Foghorn and I knocked out 300 miles yesterday. Took the BRP down to see some family friends in N.Carolina. Only one Ranger and I was at an indicated 52mph. So really only about 49. Off to work so I can afford more gas. 38 mpg is not buell-like! Neither is this motor . NUTS Yeah my wrists are toast.

Hey Nuts,
I'm a little confused. You name a dirt bike Scarlet and roll around in the mud with her. Then take a dressed up street bike and name it after an "Ole Fat Rooster"By the way, how much does that Hawk weigh?.........Charlie

Charlie, That old chicken is in fact a very wise character. I'll tell ya, There is much to learn from him. Scarlett however is a whimsical toy with lots of baggage. Try and keep the revs up for long enough and the BUZZ eventually sends you looking for calmer waters. I like playing with them both.
After being on the Buell Bandwaggon for nearly four years I can tell you this. Erik has designed wonderfull attributes in a road-going motorcycle. Riding something else definitely shows where some elements fall short. I do not feel the Sporty motor was Erik's goal for the XB series. It worked well enough in the tubers, but I think the HD jacking of the Revolution Motor for the V-Rod was a kick in the NUTS. If an XB had FoghornLeghorns motor....Wheeeeewww, "I say now boy, I say, that'd really be something. How much does the Hawk weigh? Doesn't matter it has the motor to back up about 800 pounds worth. I'd love to see this motor in an Adventure Tourer! NUTS

P.S....

My wireless mouse died the other day. Partly because I beat it on the desk too hard. But I had to because without a regular beating, it wasn't worth Jack.

So I ordered a new wireless keyboard/mouse combo and it is the totally badazz shiznit. Totally silent keyboard with nice bells and whistles, and the mouse is a bit big, but I'm not used to it yet, and it whistles too. Nice features that I might actually use.

Here's the link...

It promotes Vista, but I have XP and it works great so far.

Nuts,
Your posts aren't helping to sway me from taking the Triumph plunge. I think the deciding factor is where you and the misses end up landing.
Old Mr. Foghorn Leghorn was my dads favorite character and he used to run around the house saying phrases like "Nice boy but about as sharp as a sack of wet mice" or "Well paint me green and call me a pickle". Funny stuff and fond memories of my dear old pops.
Sold the Cannondale so a trip to Dominion Outdoors will be in order within a week or two.

Charlie,
I don't know if Nuts' new ride is making me try to question the Buell but now I am back to worrying about the belt not riding flush on the pulley. I measured it and it sits EXACTLY 1/8in off the rear pulley. I swear after every ride there appears to be pieces of "belt dust" on the swingarm and frame but I can't find an area where it is rubbing and it really doesn't appear to be fraying anywhere. After seeing the particles I am wondering what is going to happen on a long ride.
I have tried EVERYTHING to get it to ride straight but can't find a problem. Front and rear pulleys are tight, idler pulley is tight with no play, axle appears fine, etc...
I doubt the shop will warranty it since I don't have the original wheels on there and am too broke to pay for diagnostics out of pocket. The whole situation SUCKS!
Will a broken belt lock the wheel or just leave me stranded?

Jackie,
Never heard or read of a belt locking the wheel when it lets go. Most say it just "spits it out" the back.

Not saying there isn't possibly a problem, but could it be "tire pebbles" that you are finding all over everything? The Corsas I have are terrible about slinging that crap everywhere. Not sure how it gets into some of the places, but it does.

Jackie,
I think your just trying to justify that Triumph. As far as the belt goes, first you have to actually ride the thing before worrying about the belt coming off. Anything is possible, but never heard of a belt hanging.Being some what stiff and contained by the guards they just spit out the back.
Where is the closest Triumph dealer? Thats a lot harder than finding a good Buell Dealer(of which you already have one) You wouldn't believe the crap the Buell guys have to put up with down here. I like the Triumph's, the old and the new, but their network is pretty thin.
As for Mr. Foghorn, I think it's a good bike for Nut's to cruise on,but I've never met a Honda with a personality(I've had a few) so well see down the road.
Jackie, if you really want that Triumph, go for it.Your not getting any younger ya knowRemember in the end it's the guy with the most toys that wins..........Charlie

Charlie doesn't dig my Honda. I am becoming particularly fond of it however. After my morning romp out to Paint Bank even more so. NUTS

jackie, bring in your 'bolt for keith to examine if it will make you feel better. They will never even notice that the wheels are different. My belt walks a little, enought that I can see where it has rubbed something, but 16000 miles later it is fine.

Jason,
I think you and the Chicken Hawk are a good match.Much better than a CBR or some bigger cruiser. I have had several Honda's and was excited about all of them when I first got them. They just seemed to get old or not as exciting as when I first got them(no personality). You are more into traveling and I wasn't. The Chicken Hawk maybe exactly what you need...............Charlie

Seth,
Thanks for the heads up! I didn't wanna lie or try to decieve anyone but will bring it in and see what Keith has to say.

Tank,
Good observation about the tires. I didn't even think about that. The tires that are on there are remarkably soft so perhaps that is where the dust is coming from.

Charlie,
The Triumph dealer is in Lynchburg however from what Nuts has told me I doubt they would offer the same support as RVHD.
I absolutely love my Bolt' (not to mention it is paid for ) but when I see the imports with all of their high tech gadgetry it makes me envious. I spent a good 1 1/2 hour down stairs last night trying to figure out what I think the Buell is "missing". Perhaps a nice set of billet rearsets, ermaxx undertail and a few other add ons will satisfy my cravings for technology.

Nuts,
Man this is going to be a long 4 days. Forget about the Triumph, just want to see if I'm gonna have my compadre with me this time next year.
What say we do a street ride tomorrow and since ball will be ending Monday do the D/S ride on your next weekday off?

Thanks Ya'll!
(Nuts, Sat is the 15th)

Tentatively, I'm planning to roll out from here on Monday and meet up with Blublak at VIR. He's doing a TPM track day, and I thought I might try to help out if I can.

Tuesday is an "un-planned" day, which could lead to mischief.

Wed-PTT/Buell track day.

Thursday morning I'll be headed your way after everyone says goodbye/nice to meet ya/peace-out/etc..

After that I have no idea what I'm doing, but Sat will likely be the day to head for home.

Looks like I may not get to enjoy "scenic" rt129 this year, unless something major changes.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all that the shoe fits. Hope you all have a great day!
I'll be spending the first half of the day putting this Yamaha back together. It eat a set of fiber reeds at the last race. At least it waited till the last race of the evening.
I'll be cutting a few more transfers in the cylinder while I have it off.I'm still not satisfied with the output.
