My Name is Boyd, I'm Fairly new to NC and I've been scouring maps of the area for good roads but, figured there is no better source for great routes than fellow Buellers that know the surrounding areas first hand... I'm the only Buell owner in my family but, not the only one who rides... I hope you guys are open to bikers of different breeds ...

Boyd - welcome to C3! You've got several Buellers right in your area. You'll find plenty of people to ride with and show you their favorite routes!

From Fuquay it's probably best to head West. The one Jim suggested looks good, but anything in that 42/Shearon Harris/Jordan Lake area makes for good wandering.

Boyd- I'm from Angier. There are some Ok roads in our backyard but for the really great ones like Spike said you have to go west. I use a NC Topographic map from walymart to find the off the beaten path roads but usually find the best local ones when I have no destination in mind.
If you want to run up to Michael's some Sunday AM give me a shout.

Michaels?

Thanks for the warm welcome! I just did the service today on my ride and will most likely try the ride posted above... I was out scouting today in the cage, got a bit lost, didn't bring a map... coasted into a gas station on fumes and she died at the pump! Not too bright I know! I need a good map that is small enough to tote in a back pack or pocket. The good thing about Long Island NY was you will always hit a common major artery or the coast, so you really can't get lost. Here you can drive, and drive, and drive and never know where the heck you are. At least where I'm concerned... I really only know the major roads from Fuquay to Wake forest to Cary kind of a triangle... West or South I have no clue... Even my sense of direction seems off here... probably because most roads are so twisted that it's hard to keep a direction in your internal map... Again on Long Island you are pretty much only traveling East west north and South...

Michaels?

Michaels is a bar in Chapel Hill. Lots of motorcycles show up there on Sunday Mornings. It's a fun place to go and look at bikes. I'll probably go tomorrow morning, assuming I can convince The Girl to accompany me. Some time between 10 and 11 is a good time to show up. By noon almost everyone is gone.

I rode the route posted above... a lot of fun at a fast pace! Got turned around a few times ended up riding a few dirt roads (interesting to say the least) trying to get there... Wanted to avoid the HWY's, that part was a nightmare... After finally finding New Hill Holleman Rd the rest was pure joy... All the Broken Pavement signs kept me on edge after running off the paved road onto gravel road at about 40 mph on the way there... once on the roads that were better maintained the pace picked up and the fun increased exponentially. Any other suggestions would be awesome!

We should actually start a running thread where area people can post their favorite runs... best routes to Michael's or other destinations...

My nephew had stumbled onto a subdivision that has the most awesome stretch of main road winding through wooded area, too bad it's a subdivision and you've got to keep your speed in check but, it truly is a work of paved ART!, Tight switchbacks constant elevation changes, long sweepers... unbelievable! If you are ever driving past either in a car or on your steed, drive through, you will be BLOWN AWAY by the road and the MANSIONS off of it... I think it was Brackenridge Lane off Sunset Lake about a mile north of Bass Lake/Hilltop Needmore.

Jim- Not to good with the google map (due to lack of practice) but check this out. I run this way to work when I get tired of the tailgating 210 A-holes.
- On 210N just past Angier turn Right onto Pearidge Road; this is immediately past Doc Youngs Berry Farm pond on your left.
- Strait onto/becomes Piney Grove RD
- Strait onto/becomes Massengill Pond RD
- Left at T inersection stays Massengill Pond Rd
- 1st Right onto Stephenson RD
- Left onto Hwy 50 and pick up your route at Johnsons Crossroads.

I got these roads names from your google map so the road signs might not be the same when you get there.

I Haven't been down 210 but, that stretch of 50 is well known as it is my alternate route to Garner and home from work when I ride in... Fairly straight and Long... much better than riding 401! But, not the perfect cycle road when not going from point A to B... and 1010 north of 401 is fairly traffic riddled... too much for a Buell that LOVES to be at 65-70mph, not that I condone that sort of Hooliganism

Although, starting from the other direction... That looks much more interesting! That way, near the end when your tush is sort of tender from the straighter, slower roads, you then hit the winding roads less traveled, you can pick up the pace, adrenalin and shift your weight from your tail to your pegs and let the fun begin

Definitely looks to be worth a day of riding No Doubt!

Yea, the first part of that route is the best. The 50/1010 is just to get back home. I usually just take 40 home, but I was looking for something a bit more exciting for you.

I don't know exactly where in Fuquay you're coming from, so I'm just giving you loops I usually do. I'm in Raleigh, right next to us-1, so I usually hit 1, and head south for a quick exit from town. Once you get down south of the Holly Springs exit, you can just wander around on some fairly nice roads.

You mentioned being on unpaved roads the other day. I think I know where you were. If you take Cass Holt west it becomes dirt. If you follow the dirt, you end up on 42. I ride them occasionally. Its nice back roads, and since the dirt section is there, it keeps the car traffic down.

Marty, the problem with nights, is that I work Second shift and dont get out of work until 1am... weekday social life killer but, makes me look forward to the weekends so much more...

But yeah, always good to find a local fellow rider!

Jlnance Im located off of Old Honeycutt between Perfoy and 55... Yeah sounds right on the dirt road, Also hit some on the way there, from the map it looked good to take Sunset Lake to Holly springs rd., continue across 55 and meet up with Friendship and take that to the start...didnt workout the way I planned.
