Thanks for the welcome guys... I Lived in Dallas most of my life but moved to GA for a few years to experience my Buell... Bought the XB a couple of weeks before moving to GA... but anyways... It's good to be home although street riding SUCKS!... and the DFW Cages are not the greatest but thats usually cages in general... OK off the soapbox...

Well I really want to start catching some trackdays... but I need leathers and tires... riding on these roads is flattening my tires... which leads me to a couple of questions...

First, Those who run trackdays, do you own two sets of XB rims? one for track, one for street?

Second, any good places to try on Leathers out here? I want to see what size I am/want before I purchase online... Unless someone is getting rid of some decent leathers...

Third, what all do you suggest for racing? if I do decide to do it? Suspension first? or keep stock? Full Fairings?

Well just curious what you experienced XB racers have found... also, I was thinking about pipes, dummer, Odiepipe? sorry rambling here but just curious...

Blake, I hear you are the BadWeb MAN!... and I used to ride with a guy who rode a silver S1 back in 2000 named Neal... he worked for Russ Welch HD (parts manager) over in College Station, and was from Kileen (misspelled?)... Know who I am talking about? Know where he may be? Just wanted to drop him a line and say Hi... Last I heard he was drag racin that S1 of his...
Just thought I would ask... appreciate any info you may have...

Hope to meet all of you guys sometime in the future... until then... 3%ers RULE!

Hey Duc,

Welcome back to Big D. If you are looking for leathers try.
http://www.motoliberty.com/
They are a distributer for Vanson and many other manufacturers. They usually have alot of sizes in stock you can try on. They run several promos thru out the year with great discounts (Not as good as ebay, but close).

P.S. I am the new commander of V.F.W. post 10460 in Lake Dallas. If any of you guys are passing through on your way to the twistys in Oklahoma or Arkansas stop by. If any of you need a place to meet up, we have a huge meeting hall that is available with the coldest suds in town. If anyone needs directions pm me. We are about 3 miles from American Eagle in Corinth. I am almost always there. My XB will be parked by the flagpole

Hey Chris, it was if the sexy woman on the back was wearing a blk and pink helmet and jacket.
We were heading to AE HD to pickup a tank bag for the Uly. We made it out there only to see a massive party going for all the HD riders. Wouldn't you know it, the dagone tank bag has been sitting on their shelf for 3 months. I have eyed for the last 2 weekends buying other mods for the Uly since I get to come home on the weekends from Chicago. Anyway, I show up and wouldn't you know it, the only thing Buell they sell all weekend is the friggin tank bag I am there to buy.
So we left and rode the back roads to Tioga and had some really good BBQ at Clarks. You remember the place, the first place we stopped after the off road expierence on the first Buell ride.

Good news! It looks like I will be home for a little while so its time to start planning some TNT rides....

I need to call the guys and see if we can get a meet somewhere in the middle.

Til then, Keep the shiney side up!

I'm glad the links helped! Maybe this will too:

Motoliberty is certainly the best place to try certain brands of leathers on (Vanson, Taichi, Fieldsheer, and Alpinestar). The owner/operators are exceptionally nice, too. Cycle Gear stocks Dianese, Joe Rocket, and Frank Thomas. They can order the rest and are nice enough to charge you full retail when they do.

I did a ton of research last year and wound up going with a set of MotoGP's off eBay (new). I never was able to try them on, so it was a bit of a gamble. They came with high marks from a few different guys who seemed to crash... a lot.

Some good online leather resources:
http://www.newenough.com/ (favorite with many I know)
http://www.komodogear.com/ (Local company. SUPER nice people and great products. very heavy suit though, and why I didn't choose it)
http://www.helmetharbor.com/ (seemed to have had some of the best online prices at the time)
http://stores.ebay.com/Flyin-Brians-Deals_Leather- Suits_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ12QQftidZ2QQtZkm (where i bought mine)

I had bought another set of rims for the XB to do exactly as you're thinking, but bought a dedicated bike instead. I sold the rims to another BadWebber so he could do the same. It sounds like a good idea to me.

I wound't invest in full fairings unless you're gonna race and need a place for sponsor logos. It's not going to make a bit of a difference in speed for a track day. And they're expensive when compared to simple frame & axle sliders.

I'm not even sure I'd do it if I was going to race. Sponsor placement certainly woudn't be an issue with me. ;)

I went down on the XB at MSR. Sum total to fix to perfect again: ~$85. Nice.

Micah, please ping me when you guys plan something.

I have a Ducati 2006 S2R 1000 I bought new off the showroom on January 27, 2007. After 107 miles I have decided it’s not the bike for me. It’s completely stock, black with white strip, 2-year warranty until January 2009 and I have the service manual CD. I also have a K&N air filter and oil filter uninstalled. I’m selling it for $9,500, which is over $2,000 less than what it would cost for you to buy a 2007 model today. If anyone here is interested or know someone who is, please contact me. I will be placing it on Cycle Trader soon. Thanks.

Dago, Sorry about the Spelling... You all will soon learn that my spelling is at 1st grade level... and I am damn proud of it

Second, I need a new rear tire (DIABLO)... I know some of you use allen but I am heading down I-20 from Kaufman Area to South Ft. worth tomorrow for the weekend... Any Ideas on a sportbike tire shop where I can get my rear tire replaced? Best Prices? should I try the standard Rice Shop?

Which Brings me to my Next Soapbox... I believe that Lone Star HD Buell is THE WORST "BUELL" DEALER I HAVE EVER VISITED... and I have seen a lot of crappy ones... makes me wanna drive to allen for work... First 30 min. in the store and the only one to say hello was the motorcloths chick who was to busy to ask if I needed any help... and there were two customers in the store including me... then I find the buells in the back of the store... yet the triumphs were up front by the doors??? WTF MATE??? I was thinking about getting a job with the local HD dealer because I need to find work... but I WILL NOT WORK FOR THOSE CLOWNS!!!! WHO PUTS AN ENGLISH SPORT BIKE AT THE FRONT OF AN AMERICAN DEALER? I guess just Lone Star... Name is pretty correct... but what a disgrace to the heritage of TEXAS!

Last but not least... I have registered for the wonderful ducati track day on Monday another big thanks to *DAGO* and with a license plate like DUC HTR... I should make a lot of friends... Well guys I am starting to feel at home here... I can't wait to meet you guys! Dago just call in sick to work... they won't know... I'll buy you a hot dog... or maybe bring a grill and cook you one...

PS is Tara cute? she sounds fiesty...

I just used Cycle Werks in Ft. Worth (817-244-9900) to get a set of Pilot Power race (sweeeeeeeet stuff) for a great deal: $320 mounted and ballanced.

You can also call Greg at Garage Majal. Their number is 817-306-7117. I've never used them, but almost did this last time. Cycle Werks had the better price, service, and availability.

If you get in a pinch, I believe I have a decent Diablo rear. I also have an almost new set of some Dunlops (new sportmax style) that I took off the r6 when it was almost new. I'll take inventory tonight just in case.

Where and with what organization are you doing this Ducati day? Unfortunately, I'm going out of town on Thursday and need all of the week I can get before leaving the office. But I'm going to take you up on that hot dog before too long. Derek just called and told me my bike will be ready by this weekend!!!!! HELLOOOOOOOOOO ECR and track days again!!!!

And you are most certainly welcome for the info. Anything I can do...

I don't know Tara. She may be! ;)

Dago - I used that Texas Ducati Track Days. Cowtown sent me a PM about them them today, and he was also the one that corrected my spelling on your name... guess thats why I figured it was you... Anyways back to trackdays...
http://www.advancedmotorsports.com/trackdays/track days.aspx
They were super nice, they only allow european sportbikes, AND BUELLS!!! thats why I made that comment about my license plate... its sponsored by Duc Dealers...I signed up for beginner/class although I will probably want to move to intermediate... Should be a better crowd to ride in for my first time back at the track... hopefully they respect the price of their motorcycle more than racing somebody for braggin rights... and $150 is reasonable pricing and you can still sign up through friday or maybe saturday around 1pm... ask for tara, she's awesome!

I guess I will be looking for tires tomorrow... I will price out the difference in powers and diablos... both with softer compound than I run on the street... I really need to find some new rims too...

PS... I just found out that there is a track day at barber the beginning of June that my 3%ers are going to be at... it's on a sunday which might make it hard, or even impossible for me to get to... but I will post up more info later, I have an extra chock in my trailer and seat in my truck if I decide to go... Barbers a FUN track!
dago, you continue to amaze me with your helpful information...

Dago,
I was looking for a replacement to my Buell XB12S Lightning. I thought the S2R 1000 would be perfect, but the Monster has a more aggressive riding position that I can’t get use to. Changing those beautiful tapered handlebars and the need to extended all the cables and wires seems blaspheme. I also believe I’ve become addictive to torque. Lorna and I are having a baby in November and we wanted to move out to the lake house in Azle before the child started school but she decided she wanted to move before the baby was born. That means the main purpose of the bike will be commuting and it’s hard to beat the gas and go features of the Buell.

Duc_htr,
Tara is cute and married. You’ll find some pictures here http://www.ducatimonster.org/smf/index.php?topic=8 0590.0
I buy my tires and have them mounted at Cycle Gear. There’s a location in Bedford and another in west Fort Worth just a mile from Hwy 377. Don’t know about Dallas. I’ve found out that with the discount Cycle Gear offers for mounting when you buy from them, it cost the same as it did to buy them online and have them mounted at Cycle Gear or a HD dealer. Be sure to call first wFW 817-696-9700.

Thanks Duchtr,
159.99 for a set of Diablo street version, not Corsa. With tax the set should be $173.19. I recently replaced my front due to a nail and only need the rear.
Does anyone need a front tire, for say $70.00?

Duc_htr,
There is a cyclegear in Plano between Park and Parker on 75. I use them for my tires as well. I just put a set of Pilot Roads on the Uly and it was painless with them.

btw, where are you located in the metroplex? The funny thing with the TNT group is we are about evenly split between north and south and east and west. I believe Chris R at one point had a map of all the DFW Buellers and we looked really spread out.

I am thinking about doing a ride this weekend with some friends, but use Sunday to plan a route to offer the TNT group for the following weekend. You will find most of the riders like the 80-120mph and twisty roads. Half ride with leather, the other half street clothed with armor uppers. From time to time we get the occasional SV, Thruxton or Beemer that joins in.

I am thinking about doing a slightly different take on the previous rides and routes and then finishing it off with a thirst quenching stop at a local spot. I am looking for something kind of like the "Up in Smoke" in Keller that the TNT group could call home. Maybe something in the middle that would work for all of us.

If you have any suggestions let me know.

Cowtown, Glad to see you kept the Buell it looks good on ya!

I think you guys all know I went through the Buell replacement scenario several times over and kept coming back to them. I do love the torque as well. Now if we can just do something about the dealers in DFW.....(all of them sux the same, just at different times of the year)

Slowride,
It was the dealerships that caused me to look for a replacement. Advanced Motorsports has such a good reputation I thought I’d try a Ducati. The S2R 1000 is very compatible to the Buell. Air-cooled, 2 valves per cylinder, 95 HP, 69 lbs. torque, 6 speed and 8,500 redline. Nice bike, just not for me. I’m hoping the Buell will be gone before I really need a dealership or we’ll have a decent dealer. Could we start a grassroots effort to get FW HD back as a dealer? They told me that Buell drop them, not them Buell. BTW have you tried a Ducati yet?

Dealership support usually sucks, I searched and searched Atlanta Tenn. North Carolina area for a dealer for over a year, and they all sucked! then I stumbled upon Stone Mountain Harely Buell. Their Buells were in the FRONT of the shop¿ I met a bunch of guys at the AMA races at Rd ATL and they told me to try Stone Mountain Harely Davidson... I was so impressed I drove out of my way ALOT to get stuff done there... I will still continue to order parts from them and have them ship me stuff... If a serious amount of work needs to be done I would consider driving the 14 hours to have them do it... I don't know what it is but they have always gone out of their way to make it happen for me and the other 3%ers... They even brought me a battery to the mountains when mine failed... If you ever get the chance to go up there its worth just meeting them... When I buy another Buell I will drive out there to get it! thats how good they are...

Now DFW needs a dealer like that... I would be willing to work at a dealer if they could simply prove they would support the Buells... I wish I could start my own dealership dedicated to Buells... I know a few guys that are certified that would move up here for the job... ohh well maybe in another life...

After comparing the new front tire to the one on the bike I've decided to replace both. Plenty of tread left, just thought I'd replace it while I'm doing the back.

For future reference if Cycle Gear is having another Perelli Tire sale, they take the entire discount off the rear tire. Which means the 15% road guard is really cheap on the tire they discount. They don’t make you purchase the road guard for the set so I bought it just for the rear tire at $7.50 and since the front I’m replacing is so new I’ll use it as my front insurance.

DFW Buellers,
I am doing a little in prompt too ride this comin weekend. I will be riding from Dallas to Ozark, MO and back. I will leave out Saturday(5/26) morning around 8am and driving up through North Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and finally Missouri. I plan on riding through all the best roads of Arkansas to Missouri and then I have some personal fav roads in the back country of MO. I will be riding through the Mark Twain forrest just to top it off. I will be staying at a locals house that has a large yard for tents and several rooms for us to crash indoors in if we choose too. I will return on Sunday(5/27) and continue the riding through all the great twisties.

So far the list of riders is a short one, my father and I; but I did want to invite all that wanted to go. I can promise great roads, good company and great food.

Ping me if you would like to go....

Not much vacation in the near future for me.
Going to try to get away for 4 or 5 days in Aug.
