Just an idea,
If you are coming, could you email me your cell number and an emergency/home contact number? Just incase we need them? With a group coming in from all over, and not many of us know each other that well (read medical history) I think it would be prudent for someone to have a way of getting in touch with your home base in case of an emergency.

So far I have cell numbers for:
Alchemy
Wolfie
Bueaddicted
Rasmonis
PA_xb9sx
XB12Xscpa

Home numbers for:
Alchemy
Wolfie
PA_xb9sx
Xb12Xscpa

My email is:
alumicraft (atat) gmail (dotdot) com

Any numbers sent in will be kept in my confidence only.

The goal is for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable ride, but accidents happen.

Dan

Friday night, my daughter has a softball game that starts at 5:30 and usually goes for 2 hours. The earliest I could get together would be around 8:00. We could meet at the H.I., since that seems to be where most are staying. It's been getting dark around 8:45/9:00, if you wanted to get a little riding in.

Dan,

I'll be coming up with Randy and possibly a few other folks. I only know one definite that's meeting us in Chambersburg.

We're hoping to make it to your shop by 11 am.

Ras, we'll wait for you. If something comes up that you (or anyone else) are delayed, just call.

You said that you wanted to be back at Summit Point by dark. Provided the ride starts at 11:00, we should be done with the actual ride around 1-1:30, if you decide to go to the BBQ for lunch, add another hour and a half, which would put you back at my shop around 3ish. Add another 3 or 4 hrs to get back to MD and I think you'll be fine.

Let me throw something out here. Tonight I realized that I don't have a tail lamp. The brake light works but not the normal tail lamp for night riding. I am also posting this in the Knowledge Vault. I have a 2005 XB9SX.

If I am standing at the back of the bike and looking forward, I unplugged the left positive wire to the tail light, which appears to me to be the brake light. I touched the right wire, which normally controls the tail lamp, to the left terminal. It instantly lights up like the brakes are on. To me, this rules out the fuses and wiring. Could the right terminal be bad on the tail light assembly? But why does it light up like the brakes are on? Shouldn't the tail lamp wire have less power or is there some kind of regulator in the assembly? Any thoughts?

This leads to a question about any Buell dealers in the Altoona area. Anything nearby? I can't find any locations on Buell.com.

Thanks in any help in advance.

Chris

Chris, there isn't a Buell dealer for 100 miles. That's why I have a service manual, test meters, VDSTS software etc. and I know how to use them ;).

The difference in brightness is the filaments in the bulb. The tighter would filament is for your brake light-more resistance=brighter light. I ran across this same problem with a prior 9S. It ended up being just a loose wire.

Do you have a volt meter to check power? The "vertical" terminal is ground, one is the running/tail light, the other is brake light (I don't remember which is which).

Let's see:
the right wire (from your description) sounds like it is the 12volt for the running/tail light, because you said it lights up bright instantly on the left terminal. Sounds like you have a bad bulb. Go to any auto parts store and get a clear #1157 bulb, or a #2057-they are a little brighter. Heck, even Wallyworld has them in their auto dept. Take the screws out holding the lens on and twist the bulb counter clockwise while pushing in a little. It will only turn about 20 degrees, then pull strait out. I bet you find a broken filament.

I emailed you my cell number before, if you are still having a problem and the bulb is good, we could look at it here.
I don't remember when you are arriving? Fri or Sat? If you don't get it fixed before coming, we could take a quick looksie. It doesn't sound like anything major-unless you are running at night w/o any taillight

Thanks, Toona. Your logic sounds correct. I didn't know that the bulb had two different filaments/settings. I'll pull it out this morning and take a look.

I shouldn't have a problem. It should be daylight for my travels on Saturday.

I've had the lighter filament break. some bulbs have an additional support in the middle of the filaments to prevent the running light from breaking (just a guess).

That's what I replaced my last bulb with, I compared them, the last time I lost my running lights (I think it was on the trip to Liberty HD last year) - check the bulb.

Evening/morning all...

We had a little get together tonight at the H.I.

In attendance were:
XB9er, Pos90 and wife, Ekass13, Sprinkles, Buelladdicted, Alchemy and myself. It was neat to see 6-7 Buells in the parking lot. I know, I know - 100+ at March Badness, but hey that started small also!

We chatted a little in the parking lot until Ekass and Sprinkles arrived, then off to Ruby Tuesday for a little food and lots of Buell talk.

Once again, we all come from different walks of life and different geographic locations, but we all "Speak Buell". It's as if we've known each other for a long time, but yet still learning about each other. One of the main topics of conversation was XB9er's "pimped out ride" with the back up camera/video monitor. (Idea from StealthXB, I believe). A good time was had by all.

We're going to meet in the a.m. at the H.I. (7:45) and go to Tom and Joe's for breakfast, then a teaser ride and back to my shop/starting point and wait for everyone to arrive.

Plans are still to leave at 11:00 a.m., provided everyone that I know is coming is here. If you are having problems or running late post up on this thread or PM. I have computer access at my shop, so I can check up to the last minute.

People on the "Arriving Saturday" list:
PA_xb9sx, Dano_12s, Deltablue, Rasmonis + friend from DC Sportbikes and XB12Xscpa

the "maybe list"
Wolfridgerider, Kuuud, (Wile_ecoyote?)

If I've missed your name, please post up so that we don't leave w/o you.

See you all tomorrow (actually later today as it's about 1:00 a.m.)!

*****WOW*****
Great riding today. 22 bikes started, 2 harleys went there own way, one rider 2-up dropped out for mechanical, 19 bikes finished the day. Thanks to Mike for the directions back, much better ride back to Chambersburg than the way up. I'll be posting a video on google video (Youtube) and will post the link here later (88mb takes a while to convert and upload) Thanks again toona for hosting the ride. Thanks to the crew that rode from C-burg. See-ya all later this year again.

Wow, XB12xscpa- you guys must have been flyign home to be back already.

Good news, I was able to get Pos90's bike up and running. The contact inside the starter switch housing was dirty (just like Rasmonis' at MBIV) A little scraping with a pocket knife and it's alive again.

Glad I could help everyone out with the TPS reset.

I burnt a disc of the pics I took. If anyone want one, let me know. Not many pics, but good for the memories. I'll compress the low res ones tonight and post them here.

I'm greatful that you all took the time to come play in my neighborhood. Hoped you enjoyed the ride. I didn't have a clue as to how many to expect- I was guessing 8-10, but 20! WOOOOO WEEEEE!

See ya next year-Mark your calendar's for the same weekend. Maybe this could turn into a Northern March Badness type event- where it keeps growing and growing. All I know it, it is off to a great start.

Great job, Toona. It was definitely worth the commute to meet up with all of the other Buell owners and to tear up some twisties. My return commute was not as pleasant as the others. I think it rained on me 50% of the way home and tire spray from the cars in front of me covered another 40%. Soaked when I got home, but worth it. I'll try to post a few pics as well.

That is so cool!

That entire area is a well kept secret of motorcycling roads in the United States.

I came across 422 to 22 headed to Holidaysburg. Stopped in Altoona for dinner and set out, in a driving rain, for NYC the next day. The roads of the Altoona area are legend.

It was in fact that next day, as I had my Buell factory rocket, that someone on the old CompuServe RIDE forum reported seeing a black Buell, with a rider in a black suit and black helmet pass them at . . . they called it "warp speed", I called it "suit drying speed".

It'd been cool if they hadn't ended their post with "Not sure who it was, but I did see WWW.BUELL.COM stenciled on the bags.

I got back to East Troy the next week and got a "come here, I need to talk to you" call. . . . hmm. . . . must've been someone else.

: )

I'm going to sneak up on you guys one of these days . . . you're only a chip shot from Gotham.

Toona, just wanted to thank you for a great ride experience - really loved the roads up there. Thank you also for doing the TPS resets on our bikes!

Chris, your idea for the camera is excellent - hopefully I'll be able to do something similar to my bike.

For everybody else that I met but can't remember the names, thanks for the great talk and company. The cruiser guy - man, you can really ride! Pretty impressive! Ekass, great light show! Pretty cool, and I noticed on the ride back after it got dark that most of the cagers payed attention to your bike when you passed them. Of course the race muffler also counted . I on the other hand wished I didn't sound like a "lawn-mower", but I felt safer riding with the louder bikes.

Coming back we got drenched near Philadelphia, and the ride down 76 from King of Prussia was interesting! Pouring rain, crazy "cagers" trying to cut you off most of the time, and one "cute" blond on a BMW 3Ci trying to kiss my a*s most of the time. To top it off, she also had NJ plates! Got home around 10:20pm, jumped in the shower, and collapsed in my bed... Worth every single pain I'm feeling at this moment!!!

Anyone remember coming around that bend and seeing the fellow unloading a pony from a trailer? I am only guessing but it seemed like it was a fellow who offers pony rides for birthday parties. So there he is pulled over to the side of the road (well mostly off the road) and having just opened the back of his PTV (Pony Transport Vehicle) to the delight of the young ones waiting on the nearby yard when...

A motorcycle goes by swinging wide followed by.... another motorcycle and another motorcycle followed by another motorcycle followed by another motorcycle...

By the time I was passing he seemed to be mostly concentrating on keeping the pony in the trailer as.... another motorcycle and another motorcycle went by.

The kids were caught between wanting to see the ponies revealed and the excitement of all the motorcycles going buy. Heads whipping.

One day that could have been me on the lawn waiting for my first pony ride. Now I wear a winged horse on my cap and ride a Buell... different days, different rides.

Great rides with great guys. It was a lot of fun riding with all those Buells. Toona, you’re a great host, can’t say enough about how hospitable you and your staff are. This trip was not just about riding, but hanging out with other people that speak buell. The roads up there were amazing , finally some turns to wear down my chicken strips! Alchemy, great times and hope to see you on the next ride. Bueaddicted , how about the last part of the ride home??? Even in the rain dogging blind cagers it was so nice riding with you. Call me to ride soon, I’m down. I know I’m forgetting a lot of names but, I wont forget the faces or the good times. Thanks for the memories will do it again soon.

A funny thing happened to me on the way home... After I left Chambersburg and parted ways with XB12xscpa, Ras, and the gang from DC, I headed home through Getteysburg. Heading over a little rise on 30 and seeing the patrol car in the parking lot, I reduced speed close to the legal limit. I looked back at the traffic ahead of me and saw another bike. Close in on the bike, the guy was riding two up and didn't see me. I'm looking at the tail light thinking...that looks familiar, then I look at the swing arm and go ...hmmmm that looks familiar too, and finally the belt drive on the right side of the bike! Any way tired of sitting in slow traffic, I pull around the bike, and the rest of the traffic and honk as I go by. A few moments later, the lightning spooks the hell out of me passing in traffic at full throttle. I catch up to the guy and we chat a bit as we ride and compare bikes, and finally break off at Hanover.
Here I was this morning running to Altoona, to hang with some Buell guys, since you never see any on the road, and run into another one on the way back.
Toona, thanks for organizing the get together, It was the most fun I've had on a bike in a long time. It's great to ride with a group of guys where you fit in. Looking forward to next year.
Pos90 glad to hear your back up and running. It looks like you are in my neck of the woods, drop me a line some time if you ever want to pound some pavement together.
Buelladdicted... Stick with that 'bolt' with a little tweaking, they can be very comfortable, and a lot of fun.
To everyone else....thanks for a great day, and if you ever head over to Central PA/MD and want some company drop me a line.

Wow, thanks for all the positive comments!

Things went really well yesterday-with the exception of Pos's bike not starting after we pulled out. (Pos gave us the go ahead to leave w/o them, the spirited pace was a little uncomfortable riding 2 up). Traffic was basically non-existant, except for the pappy going up to the Wopsy Lookout.

I had a great time as well, it was neat to look in the mirrors and see a line of headlights for 1/4 mile! I'm used to only riding by myself or with 2 to 3 other guys.

I now have a new respect for those that organize events like this. This was a small event-I can't imagine pulling off March Badness or Homecoming...hats off to those that do.

Here's a few pic's I took and some comments on each. I have a few thoughts for next year after the pictures, let me know what you what you think - or, if you have any suggestions, either post here or drop me a PM. Things went relatively smoothly-for that I am grateful.

A big Shout Out to Mike S, (XBDragginknee) that works for me to go and rescue Pos90 and Denise while I was "leading the pack".

On to the pics:

This is what I saw when I pulled into the H.I. Saturday morning to go to breakfast.

Here's my father waiting on his HotRod Cushman while we snap a few pictures.

Mandatory group pic in front of the infamous Tom and Joe's founded in 1933 and now operated by Tom's grandson George. George even came out on the street and snapped this pic. The waitress Kim was in rare form following her 40th birthday party the night before.....enough said ;) The "Beware: Attack Waitress" sign applied that morning

myself, XB9er, Ekass13, Sprinkles, Alchemy, Dad and Bueaddicted

Hanging out at my shop just after Rasmonis, Xb12xscpa, Deltablue and the DC Sportbike gang arrived.

First rest stop at the Tipton Reservoir
While here and Ducati Monster stopped by to say hello.

How about the kiddo on the dirt bike that rode "with us" for a mile or so- atleast to the pony trailer mentioned above.

Next stop, Wopsononock Mountain look out

Another mandatory group picture

Initial plans were to ride to Clem's BBQ, but the time schedule didn't allow for it, so Fat Daddy's BBQ in Altoona was the next best thing. "Nice Rack!"

After Fat Daddy's, we made another pass thru the first leg of the Res Ride, even a little faster-I've never had both wheels of the ground before (multiple times)...... WEEEEEEEEE!

I hereby, by the power vested in me . . declare you:

BUELLER OF THE WEEK

You pulled off a fabulously successful Buell ride, safely and brought a few non-Buellers into the Buell world.

Very cool stuff!
