Ricochet, looks like trapper says I'm in and i didn't even know it! Well, if trapper says it, then it must be true, twist my arm and I'll go for the ride. First things first, the CityX seat is gonna have to get put back on for comfort reasons. Let me know when and where and I'll do the ride.

Sweet. I can definitely do the 10am in deposit. What's the route we're taking up to Lake Placid?

Man, I hope the snow melts by next weekend. It's STILL snowing here right now... what happened to spring. I could have SWORN it was spring just a few weeks ago...

If we are going lake placid I would imagine some form of RT 10 -> RT 30 -> RT 3 -> RT 86. Or something along those lines? As that would avoid slab and take us through adirondack park. Also their might have been a memo that I 've missed and the route is already planned out : )

Zed,
I wondered about that too! I'm glad you're in. The 10AM Deposit time was intended to give Matt enough time to get there, if he leaves home at sunrise, and enough time to finish the ride at a good time for a Sunday.
With folks coming from every direction, let's all meet in Tully at the Nice and Easy, next to 80 and 81. It's on the east side of 81. Plan to leave there around 8:30. I'll be out of town for the next few days, but I should have time to check this.
I'll do a final roll call Fri or Sat, so we know who plans on coming to Tully, or who's waiting for us in Deposit.

Hey Doon,
Ya, the plan is pretty much set for doing 10, we'll have to do Placid another time.

ricochet: Cool. Placid is a hike. Not that I am afraid of the 500+ miles round trip, but it might be a bit much for this early in the seasons : )

so Take Rt 10 to the top? Then maybe sneak back towards Newport/Poland and come down that way. Might even be able to get a run through The Ilion gorge? I up for most anything, and I ride with a GPS so we shouldn't get too too lost (well on purpose at least).

Ricochet,
Sent you some directions from my Garmin map program, for a route from Deposit to Lake Placid via two lanes & backroads. It lists it as 254miles and about 5 1/2 hours ride without stops. So the route also allows for turning towards Old Forge @ Blue Mtn Lake cutting off several hours and a bunch of miles, but still making it an interesting ride. We have several days to look at things so if anyone would like me to send a copy of a map or proposed directions, let me know.

Doon & All
The first cut out point on the route I ran on my Garmin is at the top of ten when you can go East to Speculator or West towards Hinkley or Poland. Lots of Options is a good thing.

And of course simply following SR10 from one end at Deposit to the other at SR8 is interesting also and much easier to follow than cutting cross lots on a bunch of back roads. In any case it will be a good ride.

Trapper: I currently have a garmin Quest2 with a RAM mount on the bars of the 12S. I swap it between the cars and the bike. It isn't hardwired, but even with 600 mile trips I haven't run out of battery yet on it. Works very well.

we've thrown out a ton of meeting places and times. Have we decided on which one we are going to do. Anyone heard how salt and sand conditions on the roads up north are? Weather sounds like it will be in are favor for a change.

Doon, I have the Buell GPS, it was an option with the Uly. It is a Garmin, however I am unsure if it is a Quest or Quest2 as it says Buell where the Quest logo goes on a Quest. I had a Garmin V w/a Ram mount on my Ultra. The Quest is so much faster and has much more memory. I load almost all of NY in it if I leave off Long Island. I was lucky to get two or three counties loaded in the V. I really like using the GPS!

Frank,
Sorry I missed your phone call, it was almost 1030PM when I got hope from a BSA Council Committee meeting in Utica, so I figured it was probably too late to call you back on a week night. I'll meet you at the Citgo across from Lowes at 0700. Then we will ride to Tully where we will meet some folks there. Then it is off to Deposit where we will meet a couple more folks at about 10AM. From there we will head North on SR10 to SR8 which is just a bit West of Speculator. It will be about 300 miles for us, at that point. Not a bad early season putt.

So, If I'm getting this right. Here's the general plan:

Citgo, Across From Lowes
Rome, 7:00am: Trapper, Fpresky

meet up and head to...

Tully at the Nice and Easy
Syracuse, 8:30am: Ricochet

meet up and head to...

Schaefer's Quickway, 360 State Highway 10, Deposit, NY
Deposit, 10:00am: Doon, Silenc3r, Zedtwentyeight

Meet up and head up SR10, to SR8...
Then from there we'll figure out as we go?

I probably forgot to add a few people, so feel free to add to the list : ) Wasn't there a mention of someone coming down from Rochester a while back?

Trapper, the Buell branded one is a Quest, which is basically the same as the Quest2, save the Quest 2 comes with all the Maps builtin. I like having the GPS since I have been known to just go ride and explore and when it is 9PM and somehow you find yourself in CT after NY,VT,NH,MA. It is handy to Jam the home button : ) (or even better, hmm where am I, Going to need gas soon...)

As for sunday sounds like a good plan. Figure out what to do when we get to RT 8 : )

Silenc3r,
yes, thats the plan. Fpresky and Trapper are meeting in Rome, We're picking up Carpedium81(from Rochester) and maybe a few others in Tully, and maybe a few more in Deposit. The mileage round trip for Carp will exceed 500 for a Sunday. I'm out of town on business and think I'm getting a cold, really hope I can still go.

Ricochet,
You are not going to let a little cold keep you from enjoying this fantastic weather we are suppose to get this Sunday, are you? Although, having to sneeze in a full coverage helmet can sometimes bring on some interesting problems!

Can't wait till Sunday. Itching to ride. My brother might tag along with us, not sure yet, but if he does he will be on a vstar.

Howdy all, I'm hitting the vitamin C and Zicam, even though I think/know it's snakeoil, it might help. When I went inside at 7AM near Boston it was around 45 and raining, so I didn't have much hope for good weather, I didn't know it had climbed almost 20 degrees, Awesome!!!!!!
