Leave the girlfriends or wives at home because I am a right handsome fella' and don't want to cause any hardships for you guys.

I'll leave her in downtown Roanoke. She likes to shop. : ) She doesn't like twisties, so she will appreciate being dropped off.

Torts, I've never met you, but your reputation proceeds you.

I've never met the man in person either,
but he was LOUD AS HELL on the phone.(maybe that was because I had the bike running )

Jackie, updates on the "Tankenstien"(I love that BTW, cause it's true)
I went through the front end today like Jason at a chain saw party(not our Jason).

It's beautiful. Tightened up the steering head to spec, changed the front wheel and swaped in the pads that go with that rotor.(yes I am that anal, more later) Seems very "tight", so far. Have yet to take her out, but we have an unspecified "Date". The bitch will show manners, and respect! She will be assimilated!
(and the "box from Andy" has yet to arrive)(and it has new rotors and EBC HH pads for both ends)

What have I done...I'm making a Monster....
Oh, wait, I'm just fixin' what aint broke.

Tank

p.s. and I have a surprise for when I swap the rear.........................!

Tank,
It wasn't because the bike was running. I am just plain loud and obnoxious. In all honesty most people can't stand me in real life .
I think Nuts is qualified to tell you that I ain't the easiest person to get along with but once I call you a friend I will do pretty much anything for ya'. Course' then again if ya'll could tolerate Jason then you should be able to easily handle me since he is much more offensive than I am. He doesn't mean to be, it's just a Florida thing HEHEHEHE!!

I wanna see some progress pics man.

And finally, a couple of the Tankenstien.

Without fairing

chopped plate bracket

The only evidence of a possible lay-down(actually, I think the full fairing was rubbing....no biggie)

Attempted painted header

A bit of rust here and there

Every XB has a rock collection

Notice where the pad was not contacting the rotor due to the warpage.

Finally a couple of good things...

New rear brake light switch

New shifter rubber

I also flushed both brake systems, put some new fluid in there, and bled them real good.

Thinking about going for a quick run down the road...great weather all of the sudden.

Tank, The "'STEIN" is lookin good. It'll be a sweet ride once you get it the way you want. Are you gonna go with different pads? I've got a Jones for the Lyndal golds. I received my Touratech gear shift lever today, I'll have to get pics up this weekend. Jackie returned my Dremel today and I think I'll have to break it out for some modifications. NUTS

Nuts,
I'm going with the EBC HH front and rear.

Went for a very short spin. That front brake works freakin great! Nice and smooth, no noise at all. Now I gotta do the back.(waiting on parts sucks)

Maybe I'm just not used to the regular height suspension, but the forks feel really mushy to me. When I pick it up off the sidestand, the forks compress more than I think they should?? The back seems fine. I changed the settings, so we'll see next trip down the street.

Tank,
A fine looking cradle you built there my friend. I shoulda' did that myself and saved the money I spent on the Pitbulls.
From the pictures everything looks like an easy fix thus far however it appears a motor rotation is in your future if you plan on recoating the headers. Course' you could always take the easy way out and wrap them but you will know what they look like underneath and it will tear you up inside (at least it would tear me up ).
Keep at it Holmes!

Nuts,
I may be able to go Goobler hunting if the forecast holds true. If I do I'll let you know if I get one. Me and Carlton are thinking of hitting the upper logging road and work our way down. If we only get one to come in I am going to let him try and whack it but will make sure I get picks for ya'!
If anybody else is there we may spend our time "accidently" stomping through the woods and busting birds to discourage hunting up there (wearing blaze orange of course). I can always use the "I was looking for reptiles" excuse.
So are you heading up to the family spread?

Rust?

Deposit down. I'll be bugging the turtledude later for his trailer. Apparently I saved the little Yami from part-out for the lowly sum of $600. Under 9k miles, the worst cupped tires I've ever seen, mismatched plastics and abhorrent running. But brothers I am tickled; lock up the farm animals NUTS is loose!

Nuts,
That could be a great find if all she needs is a little TLC(and tires). I'm sure you will find little things(like I have) that all you can say is WTF, just fix it and move on to the next one.

Good luck dude!

Jackie,
I'm thinking about gettin' down and dirty with some 100grit emery cloth while the pipes are still on the bike. If I can't get to it, then no one will see it, right??

The stand works great, but I do have a rear Pitbull that comes in handy at times.(especially at the track).

Still Diggin'(and waiting on parts)

Tank,
If you want to get rid of your rock collection, clean it out good and fill it up with black silicone and trowel it flat. No more rocks.Good luck on your project.

Nuts,
Nice find, that ought to keep you in the dirt for awhile and give the Uly a rest. Also this one is alot easier to pick up.LOL.......Charlie

The lil Yami is home at NUTS central. Seat, tank, sidepanels, airfilter, carb all removed. I got black fingernails and a gassy aroma over the whole house. Oh joy, the project has begun! Off to get new intake manifold, carb rebuild kit, tires and assorted electrical goodies tomorrow....after I bag me a rainy day, Tom Turkey. NUTS

Tank,
Go to the Advance Auto and get the set they offer. I ain't never broke one and even if you do they have a lifetime replacement warranty.
If you don't do the pipes properly I will be forced to point it out when we hook up .

Nuts,
I don't think the bike is going to be a major problem. The way it was turning over it has to be the carb or electrical such as the coil.
I say blow out the jets, put in a new plug and fresh gas and see what happens. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Torts, Dude, Gimme some slak...

She's a 20 footer, without the "glass".

And with the present "glass house", she's a 10 footer at best.

I think I got a bent front rim, too. So I need a whole set of "good wheels" to have an extra set.

Just so happens...I have a set of brand new...AMBER wheels in boxes that I got a great deal on, that may end up black. I hate to do it to a pristine set of wheels, but I can not tolerate that color anywhere near my bikes.

So now I'm a wheel racist.(who needs silver or black wheels)

Tank,
If I cut you some slack then you might start cutting corners elsewhere . I know you can get that Bolt' back to the pristine shape she deserves to be in IF you just take your time.
Torts words to live by. The longer it takes to complete the better it will turn out.

Nuts,
The bikes timing is set so shouldn't be an issue. If the chain did jump by chance then we are in for some MAJOR fun.

Nuts,
Do you know IF or how many "shadetree mechs" have been in the motor before you got it? That could be more of a problem than the initial malfunction. If you don't hear any"clicking" valves when you turn it over, you might be OK.
Tank,
If your trying to get the bolt out, I have found that a little heat on the bolt helps loosen the loctite,NO power tools, slow steady pressure with a cheater bar works best( this is after I broke a few torq sockets w/ impact)
You guys are having all the fun,dang-it......Charlie

Jackie,
On Nut's Yam, I don't think those bikes even call for a Qt. of oil in the engine. You might want to check the compression in case it got real low on oil and stuck a valve and might not be seating good now, just a thought......Charlie

Charlie,
Yep, had the ol' 3ft 1/2" breaker bar on that bad boy. All but one broke loose, but by the time I got to the last one, the bit was cryin' for it's mama.

No need for power tools, just good quality tools.

Charlie,
Will do. Any help from a gearhead like yourself is GREATLY appreciated.
Last I heard this morning is the plug was coal black. From Nuts description I don't believe oil fouled but running way rich.
He is in the process of checking the jets and float as well as doing the simple check for spark. After that we are gonna adjust the valves and perform an in depth compression check.
I think he just wants to try and get it to start and then we can knock out any issues from there.
I was with him when he tried to start it. Seems it wants to go but just doesn't quite fire.
Updates will be forthcoming as progress is made.

It's ALIVE!!!! Thanks to our good friend Jackie's guidance the Yami runs. The carb looked better inside than out. Changed out the fuel in the tank, and it fired on the second try. Little bit of smoke from the exhaust but it seemed to idle pretty good. I re-assembled the necessities and took a ride up the street. The clutch cable needs lubing desperately but 1st and 2nd seemed to shift fine. I let it run for another few minutes and drained the oil. Oil was a beautiful honey color and the filter looked pretty good too. I'll lube the clutch cable tomorrow and set the valves. I need to get the wheels out for spokes and tires. When I get the wheel off I'll inspect the chain and sprocket. They look pretty dirty now but hopefully that'll clean up. I don't suspect the previous owner beat on it too bad as he was an older fellow and used it for basically tooling around. I of course want to beat on it.Thanks for all the heads up fellers. I took the Uly out to get some new parts and is that thing fun! I haven't ridden for few days too many and the quick spin was good for NUTS.
