Anyone have rethreading tools? I blew a spark plug out and found that the hole was totally stripped.

Just stoppin by for a semi annual ( seems that way ) hello. No, I have not left the planet. I can finally say that the paint job is underway! I've been scrimpin and savin, along with polishing and tweakin a few pieces for months now, and the plan is to have the bike ready for a trip to Fla. April 27th... yes, I'll miss the sportfest! . Downside... doubt I'll be ridin it in any more challenging events...can't afford to damage it now. lol

For interested riders who are leaders in our Buell riding group.
Last night I attended a Motorcycle safety leadership forum at the MVA. The state is having a Leadership in Motorcycling conference on May 4, 2007 at the Mariner arena. It will have a general session and 5 breakout sessions. The reason for this conference is for the state to reach out to motorcyclists in the community to improve rider education thru riders like you. I know I'm starting to sound like a commercial now: ) For the state of Maryland in 05 an 06 the crash rates were high. So they need ideas from the community to help them reduce crash rates. I don't know all of the details but if you are interested in attending this please contact me, It will be very worth your time and effort to attend. Buell motorcycle riders will be represented which will be a huge bonus for us. K

Babired,

Although I don't reside in MD, I do ride there often! Thanks in particular to Paul and Jose for taking me on various "scenic" tours of backroads using unmentionable and untraceable routes! =)

I do believe a root cause of the increase in accidents is the shear fact the total numbers of motorcycle owners as grown exponentially!

With that in mind, DoD, in particular the U.S. Army, has made it VERY difficult to ride on base. In addition to Basic MSF, a prospective rider has to have the Expert level course completed as well... Additionally, a rider MUST wear certain type of gear and his/her helmet MUST weigh at least 3 lbs. The latter prevents riders from wearing so called "legal" half-helmets, which are no way DOT-approved. Reflective gear must be worn at all times, etc., etc.

All that to say, relying on gear alone is not enough! However, DoD is trying to enforce a "standard" among military riders.
I would be curious to see what their accident numbers/metrics look like since they've adopted the above rider safety requirements...

My dos centavos...

Well, back from vacation (grr...) and wanted to toss in my .02 since I won't be able to make the conference.

My thoughts on the motorcycle accidents are twofold - bike-only accident increases surely stem fromm the increase in "bike appeal". There are more lawyers and orthodontists and "fashion riders" out there now than ever before. I don't think the training program is as good as it needs to be. We have events like Rolling Thunder, or even smaller events like a local HOG ride, and the riders scare the living s**t out of me in the parking lot. I get to a point and I seriously can't watch. ANYbody can go in a straight line down a highway; it's when you toss in an obstacle like low speed, a turning car, or a traffic light that you get problems.

However...riding to work nearly EVERY day, I get exposed to what I think is the real problem - people in cars who honestly believe "I'm bigger than the bike, so *I* have the right of way" and they just pull out, cut you off, change lanes into you, etc. etc. Or...they're too busy yapping on their phone to be bothered with piloting the 6000lb SUV down the road safely. I ride a marked, decommissioned police bike every day and I still get cut off. I work with a county Sherriff motor officer who rides a marked, fully enabled police bike...and HE gets cut off regularly. I think *driver* training is just as much to blame as anything else. There are more bikes than ever before and people have got to get used to them being around, and treat us with respect while we're out there.

On the upside, I was just in the FL Keys (I know...flame away ) and down there they have probably twice as many bikes and scooters as they do cars. We rented an FLHX in Miami and rode down there....and it was probably the most relaxing riding I've done in years. The roads suck - no turns or hills, LOL - but in addition to the incredible scenery, drivers down there RESPECT bikers. They SEE bikers. And when required? They actually YIELD TO BIKERS. HOLY CRAP. <shrug> I guess it *can* happen...we just have to be patient, and we have to go about it the right way so as to become a "presence", and not a "nuisance". Kudos to those going to the conference - please do us right!

Ratbuell and Spops , Deltalblue this is why the state is calling all leaders in riding.
I'm going to be in Kentucky this week so I'll miss the conference the MDOT contact is Peter Moe he is the head of this forum I'll e-mail him today. Or when the next leadership preperation meeting is held at the MVA I will give you the date. These meetings are to organize and set up the conference. Who attended last meeting... Goldwing riders, lady sportbikers, various police depts, Abate, other motorcycle safety professionals, and other large Motorcycle clubs. I don't want to start having serious motorcycle safety discussions on this fun thread just want to let you guys know of it and I'm hoping 1 or 2 of us Buellers will be able to go because we are a unique set of riders with really good standards in safe skillful riding. : )

Hey guys,
Well I got rid of my 2003 XB9R last weekend. She was having problems, running ruff. I decided to sell her. There are many reasons behind that decision most of which I don't really care to go into right now. Anyways I was really sick to my stomach when Tank and I loaded her up on his trailer. I will truely miss this bike.
I went out and purchased a 2007 Honda CBR600RR in Pearl White/Black. She looks great, rides and handles great and most importantly has a no deductible unlimited mileage transferable warranty for the next five years. The ergos are very good. It has some really good mid range punch. But I am missing my XB9R torq and the entire feel of the bike. Sure the CBR hauls butt on the top end of things. It's just not the same as going down the highway and being able to punch it without down shifting. I am already planning on getting another XB9 within the next year or two.
I really enjoyed riding with you guys and making new friends. I really do hope I can tag along with you guys on rides even though I don't own my Buell anymore.
Some of you guys already know where to find me dcsportbikes.com.
Jose I will probably see you on the HOV as usual. : )
Special thanks to Jose for letting me borrow some of his tools when I needed it most.
Anyways be safe out there.
Steve

Well.. Robin and I just got back from Barbados.. Man, some of those roads were SCREAMING for a BUELL Attack! Of course, They could also leave you screaming. A lot of tight, twisted, uneven, rough, yeah if there were Buells there.. the riders would be eatin' it up!

I'll tell ya more about it later.. I guess. So, when do we get together? Oh, I'm Buell less until the 23rd.. (having some work done on the bouncy parts).

Talk at ya later folks!

We're planning our "sidewalk sale" this Saturday (4/7) at HD/B Frederick. Got some Buell stuff in there too, including one or two of the discontinued XB Race Kits : ) I know it's gonna be chilly...but hope to see some Buellers wandering around with all the Chrome Junkies! <and>

Hope this isn't too "ad-like", LOL.

Rat, what kind of "Buell stuff" do you have? It's a 2 1/2 hr. drive for me to get there, I need some enticing.

P.S. I'm looking for a polished lower belt guard for my '04 XB.

Most of what we have is obsoleted parts. Buell pieces I stumbled on while they were setting up:

2 or 3 front 120mm D205 tires
1 or 2 front 120mm D207 tires
Buell race ignition (tuber - 98 S1W, etc)
Wiseco forged .020" over 10:1 Thunderstorm pistons with rings/wrist pins
Slightly blem'd XB-R windshields - one amber, one clear
...and I snagged the new bike cover for my S1 (for the rare occasions it actually sits), and a set of new shoes (D205s front and rear...not the best, but on my budget....).

That's just the stuff I saw, I'm sure there's more. We also have a new 06 Uly on display/for sale with low seat and 3 bag set, and a 12Ss, a 12Scg, Uly, and TT available for demo rides for those brave enough to ride in the cold. Me? My S1W is still on the Pit Bull stands (thanks Al!) waiting for its new shoes to be installed. I got home with the wheels/tires mounted and balanced, but dove right into the beverages so I don't want to wrench on wheels right now. I'll be on my FLHP with my heated suit tomorrow : )
