Yeah.... I'm super stoked!!

I'll be picking it up in Wilmington on Friday.

FYI, Carlos and Kristi... I found a trailer to use, here. First and foremost, I want to thank you for your offering for me to use your trailer. Very nice.... Very kind. You're good people.

That being said, I'm going to use the trailer by my house, ONLY because, it won't really inconvenience anyone by using it. Mostly, you two. Again, I appreciate it.

So, yeah, Hard bags.... I'm gonna get em'. I like the caribou ones if I'm ADV riding, but, I like the Buell ones as well. I have heard that the bracketry on the Cases is a bit of a Bear. Nance... I think it may have been you that said that. Maybe not.

Regardless... I'm still gonna do it.

I'm so excited about getting this bike, that I can hardly contain myself. I was days away from getting a new KLR. I still may. I don't know what it is about the KLR's. But, I love em'. Plus, I like what they've done with the new ones. Plus.... 5199.00..... That's do-able.

Anyway.... Thanks, guys. I will ABSOLUTELY keep you all up to date on the ULY progress...

Later, kids

Carlos... Where are you finding some used bags?

Got any hot tips on that, for me? I'll have soft bags for the Uly, but I'd prefer hard cases.

What parts are broken on the ULY, if you don't mind... Or rather, which parts need to be either replaced or repaired?

Out....

5'5" in combat boots.

I guess "your mama wears combat boots" isn't the insult it used to be. : )

There's an MZ that I can get from Tuscon in relative short order (sport cup) that we've been drooling over, but I can't swing that kind of time off, right now to ride it back home.

You get me to Tuscon and I'll ride it home for you.

Are they really a Grand? That's fine if they are but whewww!!! Didn't see that one coming!

If you get all 3 I think it is. I've got just the two side bags and I've never needed to carry more than will fit into them. I've seen Carlos ride around with just the top case, which looks convienent as it is easier to open.

I have heard that the bracketry on the Cases is a bit of a Bear. Nance... I think it may have been you that said that.

At one point I discovered that my brackets were not screwed into the foot peg brackets like they are supposed to be. There was some speculation that those screws had been left off when the dealer installed my bags because they can be difficult to get on. After getting the proper tightening pattern from Kristi, put a set of bolts into the holes and had no problems at all. It was easy.

After thinking about it for a while, I have a different theory. If you remove the rear tire according to the procedure in the service manual, you have to take off the right rear foot peg bracket, as part of the belt removal procedure. This would require unbolting the bag bracket for a bike with bags on. I'm guessing they did this when they changed my rear tire and neglected to replace the bolts.

FWIW, I've found that you do NOT need to remove the belt to get the rear tire off. I don't know why the service manual has that step.

Excuse me..................I'm 5'4" thank you very much.

But seriously, I am 5'4" and I can touch on the X9SL (Lightning Low). I wouldn't want to be standing on a slope or loose gravel though.

Hey guys-

My brother in law has been asking me about doing a day trip with his new Super Duke since he picked it up a few weeks ago. We were thinking about heading Northwest into the VA mountains, but then we started talking about heading down to the Uwharrie area since neither of us had explored that area. Any of you local guys interested in heading down there with us to show us the good roads? We're planning on making the trip next Saturday (the 21st).

Anyone else want to ride along?

As for the bags, both side cases are gone. One is cracked and the other has a hole worn in it. The top case is salvageable. It needs a new clasp to hold the bag to the bracket a few minor scratches but no big deal. The bracket for the right side bag is damaged as is the right side foot peg bracket the bag brackets are attached too.

Someone clued me into Buell bags on E-bay.

As for the rest of the bike, the bezel behind the fly screen, the fly screen, cracked and scratched. The windshield scratched. Hand controls and mirrors need replacing. The license plate bracket, tail light, one foot peg are cracked and need replacement. The seat has two small holes. The Air box cover has small indents from the handle bar rolling back. The left fork guard is cracked. The air scoop, oil cooler scoop and left frame puck have slight scratches. The clutch cable needs to be replaced. The left fork tube has some scratches not bad. The muffler has a dent in it. I think that's it. Considering the ride it took, pretty minor stuff. Frame, engine, brakes, wheels, tail piece, rear shock and one fork tube are untouched. The bags and the muffler protected it from all sides. I need the hand controls, mirrors, and clutch cable to get it road worthy.

You never know who or what you're gonna get around here! Actually there's some strange configuration on the e-mails that come in on one, but may go out under another account. They all come into the suarez address regardless of which one you actually send to. I'm just too lazy to figure out the correct configuration since we get all of our e-mails!

Sportymark - I almost called you yesterday from the side of the road.

I took the Blast out, headed down US 1. They have put rain groves in that section of the highway and the back end was wiggling around. I was hoping it was the groves and not the tire we swapped out coming loose. I took the 1010 exit and noticed that I had to press the rear brake way down before it engaged. That freaked me out, wondering what had come loose.

I pulled off the road and looked at the axle. It was fine. Then I touched the brake caliper and it was so hot it burnt my hand. I touched the front caliper and it was cold. I wiggled the rear pads around and they didn't seem to be bound. I didn't know what was going on.

Then it hit me. I had my foot on the brake all the way down the highway. That would explain why I was having problems getting it above 60. I made a point to keep my big feet off the brake on the way home and things worked much better. : )

Hey NutsnBolt,I installed my own bags with top case myself in a little under an hour.Just make sure you get everything together FINGER TIGHT before you actually tighten any thing. It will also help to have a 5/16"-18 tap handy just in case a bolt wont start BY HAND.

My Uly is in, and I can barely contain myself.

Most of the C-3 crew knows about the Continental Road Attacks I got back a while ago. Well I loved the tire so much I bought a set of the new Sport Attacks a month before MBV. MBV laid a spanking on them and I got down to the wear bars inside of 1900 miles!!!??? The day I got back I started corresponding with the company again and found out that the higher pressure's that the RA's used may have not been needed for the SA's. Recieved this today:

Jim,
I spoke to my top technician/test rider in Germany and he said that 1,900 mls. is definitely on the low side, however he said that a very aggressive rider who does a lot of track days could see this type of mileage, especially if tires are at improper inflation. I would suggest that we send you a demo set of Sport Attacks to re-test using different inflation. My technician did say that due to different carcass designs the Road Attacks do better with higher inflation (i.e. 36 psi. front & 42 psi. rear) and the Sport Attacks do better at slightly less (33 psi. front & 38 - 39 psi. rear). Would you be willing to test a set of Sport Attacks using this inflation? Let me know where to send the demo tires.
Best Regards,

Twig, I know your running the SA's, you might want back your pressure's back down, AS WELL AS ANYONE else who is using these tires. The Road Attacks did run higher pressures and I got real close to 10,000 miles out of those! Hopefully this new info will help them make some adjustments and help me discover the correct settings.

I do know the tires stick like glue after warming up, even in the rain!(ie-MBV!)
