Is this Carlos?

Yeah that was me. Here is the last shot of the Uly before my supermanmoto routine. I slowed after the last curve in the picture. If you back up from this photo a few shots you will see I passed two pick up trucks in the turn. I forgot about them. Amazing what happens when you are focused on the road. That will teach me to slow down!

I think that first weekend in October will work well for me as well. I need to get final confirmation from my wife that she doesn't have a clothing show that weekend, but I think it should be fine.

Usually early in October the weather is still good, the leaves haven't started the heavy shedding, and we haven't gotten into the fall "wet season".

I don't know if the "fairies" will be around, though.

let me knwo what you are gonna do with the busted bags.

If we get the bags back, we'll keep them for extra parts and maybe mount the busted one on the wall as a reminder!

I had scheduled the following weekend just in case a fall ride came around, but I'll change it. Might even take a four day weekend and ride the bike down. Glenn, glad to hear it. You are doing the right thing!

6 months out is a little far when your managed by the crisis management team .

Ha! I won't be going for a ride any time soon. Just did a check on the xb, and the battery has lost power again. Last Sunday after I unloaded it, it gave a extra oomph to turn over, but did fire up. I damn near dumped it through the gate to the shed. ! Kinda sounds like the fuel pump is hanging up. I'm pretty much disgusted right now. At least she did'nt crap out in Suches.I'm gonna sleep on it before I decide what to do. Later...

Congrats - They crash really well. Trust me on that one. They also ride great, handle great, two up great and do a lot of other things great too. You will find that they do not handle quite as well as the Firebolt. Its longer legs and more relaxed riding position reduce the communication back to you. It also has reduced lean angles because the lower pegs and bags. The trade off is all day comfort and in the right hand (obviously not mine) the bike really is a top notch handler. After Mike quits punishing me for my Dragon adventure maybe we can all ride together. Now we have three Ulys in the east.

I don't know that the pegs will hit sooner. It has nearly 7 inches of ground clearance.

I know hard to believe isn't it. I am just taking the 40° versus 52° lean angles into consideration. I have never put the pegs down on a Firebolt, I do not know if I have the gonads needed to do so but I had just about plained off the right peg and was putting down the left pegs on some turns last Friday, not counting the Supermanmoto move.

Lean Angle: FB ULY
Soft Contact, Right (5) 47° 39°
Soft Contact, Left (5) 47° 39°
Hard Contact, Right (5) 50° 43°
Hard Contact, Left (5) 48° 40°

I agree with the measurements. I have hit the pegs only twice. Both times I was healed over to the left and the road dipped compressing the suspension.

I always wondered about what the difference was between left and right on hard contact.

Sidestand?

I just wonder if it isn't harder to get a Uly over. I'm probably just not doing it right.

If you dont' mind giving up the passenger pegs and dragging them is a problem, you could fit a set of the R pegs on the Uly.

I thought the same thing, but have to admit, it took a while for me to find the Ulys foot pegs. I do not know what hard contact is, but I sure as hell do not want to find out again. I rode Webe's blast on 421 and I thought in the first hard curve I ripped the left foot peg off. You should have seen me trying to lean off the bike, it was comical.

I have visions of Carlos as his own sidecar monkey! : D

If you look at some of the photos of the Ulys with bags, the bags are pretty low.

That picture of the guy with the green helmet was very near to hitting "hard parts".

I have not hit hard parts on the Firebolt yet.... But, I could have sworn that I was going to. I was headed around the 17 loop back to 24, and I felt my right toe slider get "heavy" (best way to put it) immeiatly came out of the sweeper and went back to base. Got home and saw that my slider was scraped up. I was riding balls of my toes on the pegs at the time, so I suppose I came within an inch and I felt like I was laying the bike horizontally. SO, I don't really know if I wanna find the hard parts on my Firebolt, which by the way.... I'm keeping.

Wife is looking at a Lightning as we speak, but I think it's gonna be too tall for her. 5'4" roughly. 5'5" in combat boots. There's an MZ that I can get from Tuscon in relative short order (sport cup) that we've been drooling over, but I can't swing that kind of time off, right now to ride it back home. Otherwise it's an arm and a leg for shipping.

Back to the drawing board. By the way.... think the Uly will fit in the bed of an 05 Supercrew? Base is really particular about it being base registered before it comes through the gates. SO I have to haul it in, first.

Let me know.

Mark

Plus.....

Hard bags...

Are they really a Grand? That's fine if they are but whewww!!! Didn't see that one coming!

Looking for some for sale right now. Hoping some pop up.
Not your's Carlos. By the way...

Did you see that Mike sent a copy of that letter to ME!!

Can't figure that part out. I emailed Mike and told him he's off his rocker, he should have not emailed that letter to me. I read it though, and yeah.... Mike is brutal, isn't he? He once chewed my rear for dropping a knee too early and nearly missing the apex one time. I still hear him conplain about that one. Never mind the gravel that was in the way. He was going off about gyroscopes and crap and why it would have made no difference whether I hit that gravel or not. I told him to go back to his Coma and chill out.

Mike's good people, though. I think he was just concerned for you, that's all. He means well.

Later, skaters

Mark,

Congrats on the Uly. There are some aftermarket bags available now which are slightly cheaper; you may like them better than the factory units.

Here's the Caribou Cases. Only $730 with mounting (but no top box):

http://www.adventure-motorcycle.com/store/?name=Catalog&mode=i&item=000066

The look very different from the factory bags; I wouldn't say better or worse, just different. There's at least one review of these cases posted at advrider.com in the "beasts" forum.

Nuts,

I am looking at a set of used bags now. Are you sure I could not interest you in a slightly used scratch and dent set. I can include on slightly used bracket for the bags too. One is well ventilated. It is a custom feature if you look carefully it has a pattern of the Dragon.

As far as the bike fitting in the truck i am sure it will. You may have to bungee the tailgate up like some of the others do. Though putting it on the truck is better on the road, if you do not have ramps to could be a challenge. Let me know if the trailer will help.

As for the wife, I am sure she could handle a Lightning low. AydenXB9 is a '03 XB9SL (Low) and I can flat foot it with a 29" inseam. Buelletta at 5'2" holds the Lightning up like I hold up the Uly. Your wife may not be able to flat foot, but she would be able to get the balls of her feet down. The great thing is you can convert any Lightning or Firebolt to a low, just need the suspension parts. The next time you get a chance have her sit on a XB12SCG and see how it fits.

FB,

If you looked at the picture above you see I can put a lot of monkey on that side car. Now picture a little Blast and that Chuck caboose and you get the picture. Hey, do those bags make my ass look big?
