I mentioned the new Ulysses Saturday - top of this page if it's still there when you look. It was a short message because my brain was still frozen from the ride that morning.
I've been planning on getting a Ulysses for a while. The lightning was my first bike and I love it, but I new I needed a distance bike soon. I just needed to test ride one. I took a vacation to visit my parents in Sarasota, Florida during bike week, so I stopped by Daytona Mon\day for the test rides. My Beemer riding friend was trying to push me to a real sport-tourer with a full fairing and one of those silly inline engines, so my plan was to try a bunch of bikes then tell him I still wanted the Buell. I've been pretending I was really considering other options.
I stayed outside of Daytona Sunday night. Monday morning I head to Daytona after trying to find a parking spot at that huge HD dealer - It's not car-friendly during bike week.
I think I was the only person in the car parking at the track to walk out with riding gear. I head to the Buell demos first. The next ride didn't have a Ulysses available, so I tried a TT. Lot's of fun, If I needed to replace the CityX I would probably get a TT. I only wait out one ride after that to get a Ulysses. It fit, my decision was made.
I went looking at all the metric brands after that, but they only had the cruisers available for the rest of the day. Buell was the only manufacturer with enough bikes.

I stopped by Detroit HD on the Tuesday after bike week - when it was 75 degrees - and made the deal. They had a 2006 in the showroom with the full bags for $12,500. They also had a 2007 for the same price without bags. I wanted the 2006 seat anyway, so I told them I would pick it up Saturday.
Saturday I let the sun do it's thing and bring it up to about 30 degrees around noon. I threw on the long johns and plugged the electric vest into the lightning and went to Detroit HD (about 15 miles, no freeways). The only ice I found was in my north facing driveway. I left my lightning for service and rode the new Ulysses home.
Riding with the break-in rules I really felt the difference in the engine that I didn't realize on the test rides - It pulls right from Idle.

I got my second ride today. That 1200 is amazing. I have to flip through the gears real quick to keep the revs under 3K - I'm trying anyway, It gets up to 4K before I get a chance to shift out of 1st gear.
It had 200 miles when I got it - part of getting an '06, I guess.

Anyway, I love it already. I should finish the 500 mile break-in before lunch Sunday.

The only negative is I'll have to work on getting off the thing without scraping my right boot on the luggage. That would be the case with any of the ST bikes, though.

I got out for my first ride yesterday, and now the blast is unrideable for a while. My right foot peg broke off going over a set of train tracks. It looks like the bolt that holds the clevis to the rearset bracket broke off, I lost the clevis and peg. I am going to try and find it tonight after work, but if not I am checking on how much a new one is. Have a good weekend riding guys.

I highly recommend the Ducati ST3 as a sport touring bike. One of my friends just got one, and the bike is awesome! Okay, back to Buell talk.

Hey guys I just bought my first road bike last night! A 2002 Buell Blast with only 1100 miles on it. I live in Ypsilanti and was searching pictures around the internet and found your club. Was wondering a couple things:

1) How do you become a member. I know you guys have a meeting tomorrow at Hotters in Novi. Can I just drop in? I'm not married and dont have much commitments so I should be able to make it to all the rides.

2) The guy I bought the bike from said the bike needed its 1000 mile tune up and I haven't a clue where to take the bike in for service. Any ideas on where I should go?

3) I saw from a post there is an Ypsilanti bike night on Tuesdays? Where is that at? Depot Town? Do you guys make it out to those?

Thanks Guys!

Peeps, there isnt much to the 1000 miles service. I dont remember exactly what, but oil change, primary fluid change, primary drive chain adjustment, and some saftey checks. I will look in my manual tomorrow if I can find it. I live in Taylor off of telegraph and 94 area. If you need a hand I can help you with the maintenance, if no one else can.
Yeah swampy, I finally have some blast company down here now all I have to do is get mine on the road again. damn foot pegs.

Jugallo I think you are right on with what things the dealership checks for at 1k miles. I called the Harley dealership in Ann Arbor and they said it would take them 2 weeks to get the bike back to me. I decided that was too long and I would change the oil myself (first time ever doing this on a motorcycle). So off I went and 3 hours later, why they have hinges which are impossible to take off and put back is beyond me, but I changed the oil. Jugallo any help you can give me on how to take care of the bike would be awesome! I am really lost as to what to do and how to check anything.

I look forward to meeting you guys tomorrow. Unfortunately I wont be bringing the bike, I dont have plates for it since the guy I bought it from kept them for his new bike.

The Detroit Hooligans site is up and running, so now we don’t have to dig through the archives for information about our rides.

Nothing terribly new at the meeting today.

I would like to know if any one else new for sure they were coming up north. The count hasn't changed except for Swampy.

So far I have Blackbelt, HardCorps,Tib, Eich, D3r3k, Swampy. I know that Jugs was still up in the air about going, and possibly Swampy bringing some or one of the kids. D3r3k are any of your friends coming? Oh yeah Matt White said that he was going to see what he could do too.

For those new to the board we are planning a trip just north of Traverse City. Leave Friday from BlackBelts house or his exit at 9am. Ride Friday afternoon/night. Dinner at the Dockside bonfire to follow. Saturday I am going to go into Bellaire for Coffee any one is welcome to join, or have breakfast at your cabin. Saturday rides Blackbelt and I working out. We are talking about going to Leelanau county, possibly lunch at Don's drive in. Maybe riding along the bay to Emmet county, lots of twisty roads to figure out. Possibly a morning ride break in the afternoon on the lake, then a late afternoon evening ride. Sunday play on the lake until we leave.

Cost is nothing except fuel and food. Ofcourse Blackbelt and I will need help returning our cabins to the condition they are in when we arrive.

Any one interested in going post up let us know?

Hard Corps

Just was up at the cottage, put the trickle charger on the jetski battery, and changed the fluids in the out drive of the boat. I won't get the inflatables out until next month, but rest assured, the tube, skis and the wakeboard will be ready to go when we get there... maybe this time we won't almost flip the boat.. (my bad). All those heading up north. I will bring a Map to my house and the cottages w/ me so in case there are any stragglers. only two months to go until the 1st trip of the season.. ROCK ON! ALL are welcome, any one any rides..

Didn't someone say they would drive a truck w/ trailer just in case? just curious

Blackbelt. If i rode up there i probably wouldn't be able to get out of bed in the morning. A couple of back surgeries in the 90's and a mild case of arthritis limits my long distance riding. Also turning 60 on the 4th of July doesn't help. Could someone pass me the Tylenol.
