Hey Nance, I might be interested if you are heading this way. What's the plan? Been awhile since I've had a decent ride.

JimN - you're killing Carlos. This is my Mommy's Weekend Away and he'll be here with 4 children! Guess we'll have to plan a trip up that way when Daddy opens the cabin so Rebecca, the children and I will have something to do!

Hey Jim...exit 213 from I-40 West. Take a right. Mcdonalds is about 2 miles on the right. Rubberdown is refering to a gravesite I would like to visit on the way back, if possible. Walnut Cove, not too far from Stokesdale. www.hillbillyghosthunters.com/charlielawsonmurders .html

Carlos,

How many miles do you have on the XB belt on the M2? How does it seem to be holding up? Can you fathom a guess as to why I am asking? Boy, now I am regretting my statement about looking forward to the next time I had to replace the S2 belt after the '06 belt came out... Fortunately mine snapped in my driveway, so it was just as easy - hell, maybe even a little easier - to push it back in the garage than it was to pull it out of the garage just a few minutes earlier. Unfortunately I was on the way to replace my phone that had decided to give up the ghost this morning. However, also on the fortunate side, the S2 has removable sideplates on it so once I have the dough for the belt it should be on the bike in about an hour. But there's no telling how many hours it will be until my federal tax refund arrives...

Since I had 'extra' time today I played around with the 'poor-man's Photoshop' (Paint) and came up with this:

1313's Firebolt premonition

In a German H-D magazine (The H-D magazines from Germany have a LOT more Buell content in them than any US H-D mags do...) I found out about the bike pictured below:

skull 1

skull 2

skull 3

Well, actually about the whole line up of Skull Edition bikes shown below:

Brankin,

I stripped the teeth of the original M2 belt at 32,000 at the Drag Strip. The bike now has 44,500 and the belt still looks good. The Uly has 18,500 miles on it and the belt looks fine too. I guess the nicest thing about the 06 Goodyear belts is that they are more flexible than the earlier Gates belts. If you remember when we changed out the belt on the M2, we had to coax it past the lower motor mounts, yet the belt is in good shape. A Gates belt would not have survived that. If you need help changing out the belt let me know.

If you had ever told me I'd be leading Ferris Bueller on a ride through the back roads of VA, I would never have believed you. Not only Ferris, but D, Twig, Nuts, and Noctrnal from ADVrider.

My intention was to run the same route I'd done last time, plus Heaven Ridge Rd, which had been suggested by Dlrides on ADV. We started out on 52, and it was great. At the lookout station we got on 621. Unlike last time, it was littered with very small gravel. I was trying to go fast, but I could feel the back tire sliding around during the curves. I locked up the rear at some point and had a nice little slide, at which point I decided to slow way down.

Next was 623, which starts out as a dirt road that winds it's way over a mountain. Ferris and Twig weren't really on bikes made for that, but my plan was to just go slow. After a mile in I was regretting that decision. The road was wet in several places, usually corrosponding with switch backs. Just cause I have an adventure bike doesn't mean I know how to take a switch back in the mud. I just went very slowly around the turns. At some point I realized I'm holding up Ferris and D on their Road King.

On the other side of the mountain, the road switched from being wet to being frozen. It was covered with sheets of ice at a few points. That was interesting. Finally the road became paved again and I stopped so we could regroup. I was expecting to get lynched, but everyone was a good sport about it.

The paved portion of 623 is a nice long curvy road with very little traffic. It was littered with gravel which was very disapointing.

We made our way over to 16. 16 was good. Clean, no traffic, twisty, and a 55 mph speed limit. If that was a NC road, it would be marked 35. I ran it at the speed limit, which I thought was fairly brisk. Ferris didn't. There is something humbling about being passed on a twisty road, riding a Buell, by a Road King running 2 up. For a little while I tried to keep up with him. The thing was gravel had reappeared on the road. This apprently didn't bother Ferris too much, but it bothered me a lot.

Next we took Heaven Ridge Rd. I was exhausted by that time, so I didn't even try to run fast. It was compleatly covered with gravel so there wouldn't have been much point. We stopped at some point and discovered that Nuts had a leaking tire. Ferris patched it up and we continued into Marion.

At this point I figured there was no shame in picking up the interstate.

yesterday was a hoot! we figger y'all were testing the Newbs from Cali, to see if we were "worthy" of being your new riding neighbors.

i think we did ok. : )

major props to Denise for her role in yesterday's madness, not only suggesting that we take a rare Saturday off from work, but also for being such a brave, skillful passenger - i would NOT have wanted to be on the back of my Road King yesterday!

thanks all for the warm welcome and for the grand adventure. looking forward to next time.

Hey C3,,,,Jim, Kristi, Carlos, Cali-transplants, JimR,

What's up? I've been tinkering around the Pumpkin Center compound and finally made my way to The Barn where me and Gerald spent so many years wrenching -- overwhelmed with memories.

Putted around on the M2 and the Uly a bit on Saturday. Looked at a old school Chevy SWB, SB, too and I guess that'll come home with me soon.

It's getting a bit better -- looking forward to eventually catching up with them Cali folks. Later and blessings on all.

Looks like I missed a great ride yesterday. I have been fighting this cold all weekend so I would not have been any fun. I guess its God's way of telling me its alright for missing what seems to be the best ride in months. Love reading the story and glad you all had fun.

For me I took my four chargees out yesterday. I drugged up to keep the cold at bay. I had to drop off something at work, so I did that, took the kids out for lunch, took them to the park, followed by some ice cream and then rented some movies. It was a fun day too.

Hey C3ers....We finally found laura a set of leathers that fit (hard to find a set for a 5 foot tall woman) but the set is only a partial zip together, and she needs at least a 180 degree zip, anybody know who is good with leather than can install a zipper for the 2 pc suit that will look professional and work well?

G2 - welcome back! Been thinking about you.

JimN, FB&D, Twig and NUTS - glad you guys had fun and everyone is home safely. Good for Denise for insisting on taking a day off and having some fun. Looking forward to spring when we can join you.

Most of all, thanks to my honey! My friend Denise and I had a great Mommy Weekend Getaway! Guess this guarantees Carlos' extra day before MBIV at the Dragon!

Nothing worth posting at this time. The old girl has some needs before she goes public -- I'll be addressing them over the next many weeks.

Hey Kristi : )
