That's the bike, K.

Hope the wx doesn't deter any hardy souls this morning. Supposed to clear up nicely to 18C or so later in the day.

Til then,
Lawrence

Kahuna,

Awesome pics! Especially the shot with your face in the foreground. (how'd you do THAT?) You look like Michael Stipe. You're too modest, show us the shot of yourself at the Woodside Restaurant!

Caboose, be warned: this guy ROCKS on his X1... in his street clothes.... If he dons racing leathers and comes to Mosport.... we may be in trouble....

Thanks for posting the pics, and thanks for a great day's riding and kibitzing. Good to finally meet you.

Let's do it again soon.... Before winter returns!!!

best,
Lornce

Great pictures K. Looks like I missed an awesome ride. Work sucked. Nothing worse than being on the wrong side of the counter at the Beer Store on a long weekend. I'll make up for it today, I'm going for a LONG ride today with some buddies. I reconize a couple faces from the Airheads meeting. The guys with the FZ-1 the red RS? and John.

laters...

"...like I missed an awesome ride."
Yup, it was a good ride. Was feeling like a wimp thinking I was the only one braking into corners following the other Buells - at a gas stop, I discovered I had the only Buell brake lights that worked!

Lornce and K disconnected their rear brake lights in an atttempt to fake you out. Sorta the opposite of a mid-corner brake check.

I love that green oil filter Lornce!!!

Did about a 400km loop today. Life is good. Have you hugged your Buell today?

The top picture of #229. Interesting looking bike. Is that an M2 tank on an X1 chassis? Why the old style swingarm? Is that the rear shock resevoir clamped to the top tube under the tank? Looks like a high dollar bike. I wonder how numb his feet get by the end of the race with the foot-rest brackets bolted directly to the engine cases like that?

Did #11 have some mechanical difficulties in the pre-grid? He's looking at his bike in a wondering sort of way?

One more question. How many rider's in the Canadian Thunder grid?

thats actually a custom aluminum tank. and i asked my mechanic the same question (he preps this bike) and apperently the old style swings are stiffer!?? and yes it is the sock resevoir, its got a penske shock on it.

that number 11 is a FAST 9r, he lead for a while, but 229 took over towards the end. its LOUD too, i think thats a force pipe on there. it was back firing excessively. fun day all in all.

its too bad that the canadian thunder was more or less a side show, with only 7 bikes racing (or somewhere around there). i really enjoyed it, but you could tell people were there for super/sport bikes.

Hi Caboose,

Have never seen the race bike, but it must be sweet to ride.... I'm guessing the older style steel box swing arm is lighter than the later cast aluminum part.... That's a big heavy casting.... Can't see too much effort in swingarm rigidity paying off on these bikes when you consider the thing's attached to the frame with a few heim joints and rubber pucks.... They do move around a little more than more solidly chassie'd bikes.... Still a nice stable package....

You gonna be going out on your bike anytime today? I may be able to slip away for a short run to C-ville at some point....

Later,

Long underwear under the leathers, for sure. Make for nice sleeping at night, though (gotta look on the bright side).

Sorry I wasn't organized enough to join you for a ride this afternoon Caboose. Nice to see you again though, and good to eyeball yer bike. Between you and Kahuna, I'm gonna be shamed into washing my bikes....

Thanks John, fer the trailer. Got Ed's Ducati moved and the tires swapped.... and DOT race rubber on the S1.... :)

Tire changer works great now that we have it figured out.... Be easier when/if it's bolted to the floor... Sure beats jacking up a car to break a bead....

Mosport or bust. :)

later boys,

No sweat Kahuna, I understand. Mosport could be a little daunting.... in the rain.... on a bike.

Drove it in the pouring rain in a car years ago... it KEPT my attention. My buddy Ed in the passenger seat.... Screamed in terror the first time I tossed it, sans brakes, sideways into and through Mosses.... Just seemed to me to be the natural thing to do.... in the rain.... bseg

Hope you'll come out and join us for some fun and larfs anyway.... The bench racing orta be just grand! :) :)

Til the next ride......

Whoops, forgot to post the number for Sturgess Cycle in Hamilton. That's the shop hosting the Cayuga track days. One's on June 11th, the other's August 20th. Registration was to be limited to 40 riders. I was the first paid registrar back in late March or so.... Worth a call. (905)522-0503.... It's the Honda shop across the street where we bought gas in Hamilton on Saturday morning. They're good guys to deal with. Call em up!

Cayuga's a fun track with tighter, tire shredding 2nd and 3rd gear corners.... Similar layout to Shannonville's front circuit.... Not as intimidating as Mosport.... Be good to have a Bueller along.

later budd,

Arrrrggghhh!!!

After changing the tires on the S1 yesterday I noticed a slight movement in the rear wheel.... indicating a bearing anomaly.... and found.... the outboard (belt side) bearing spun in the hub.... The bearing appears to be fine.... But the hub's bore's opened up.... The correct fix will require shrinking/pressing a machined bushing into place after boring a suitable recess in the hub.... This is gonna be tough to do by Friday....

If all else fails I can run the 5" Marchesini with a 170 street 207 Dunlop.... But damn it'b be nice to run the GP Dunlop on the 5.5" PM....

Wish me luck.

thanks lornce! i'll call these guys today and find out, hopefully i can still get in. i've done shannonville before and really enjoyed it (the front circuit). so this should be lots of fun!

btw, after our little run, i got all excited again and called the guy out in st-thomas no reply yet. hopefully i can convince him to give that S1 for a fair deal. i found another 97' yellow one at barrie HD. but of course them being a dealership, they are asking 9G's and the bike is almost bone stock with 16K on the odo!

sorry to hear about you're hub issues. i hope you can get things sorted out for the weekend. we need you to kick some ducati butt!!

K
