I wear the E.A.R. foam type ear plug. Just roll it up and stuff it in real good. My ears aren't bothered by the noise with the plugs in. What type of helmet do you use. Some are more noisey than others. I had an Arai RX-7RR that was very loud (wind noise) at speed. The Shoei RF-800 that I wear now is quiet.

I have the buell redline helmet, which is basically a KBC oem. I do agree, i find my helmet fairly loud.

by the way, the canadian thunder series is happening at shannonville this weekend with some big names racing on sunday. anyone interested in going?

Kahuna,

May be interested in going to see the racing.... Though it's generally frustrating to simply watch.... :)

According to the registration form, there are five classes. Orange, blue, yellow, red, and green. Orange being the slowest, green being the fastest. I've signed up for the red class. My race number is 967. I guess I'll wait and see what the pace is like. I may jump up into the "hotshoe" class if these Ducati guys and girls are just parading around. From your experience Lornce, how do they ride? Conservative or balls out - "ride it like you stole it".

After this weekend I'm stripping the X1 down, intalling the number plates and race fairing. Changing the fluids, adjusting the primary etc. Are you guys doing anything special to your bikes?

i'm really pumped about this, but also a little worries about trashing my engine! i'm not doing anything to my bike. also, i dont have a suit. do you guys have any suggestion on where to get one? can i rent for now. they seem to be strict about that.

Protective gear, including a back protector are 100% mandatory. Used stuff can sometimes be found in the "Tri-Ad". I'm not sure about renting leather's etc. What size (height / weight) are you. My buddy may have a set of leathers for you???

Don't worry about trashing your bike. My X1 has been to many trackdays with no ill affects. In fact, I think she likes to be wrung out once in a while!

Here's a pic of the lay-out at Mosport.

track map

We should decide where to meet / set up camp on Friday the 23rd. I'm liking the general camping area in the infield behind the Castrol Tower. Lornce, your experienced input will be appreciated. Is there a better spot?

"Are you guys doing anything special to your bikes?"

Nah, I'm just gonna ride it like I stole it. ;)

K, Caboose's suggestion (can we use our real names? there's only four of us here...) to use the Tri-Ad is a good one. That's where I found my leathers a few years ago. Or if you want new, try Parker Brothers on Dundas St West, beside Cycle World. Their prices are tough to beat.

Caboose, the riding varies from class to class. There'll be some hot riding going on in the red (fast touring) class, for sure. The green (hot shoe) class is usually populated by road racers on race machinery.

Keep in mind I haven't done one of these events since Grattan in '94. That's when it became painfully obvious that no matter how hard I rode an old BMW, the fast guys on new Ducatis in "hot shoe" were out of reach....

There'll be a lot of talented riders on liquid cooled racing Ducatis (fast bikes) in "Hot Shoe". Our Buells are about on par, weight and power wise, with early '90's Ducati 851's. Any newer liquid cooled Ducati's will have the upper hand.... If either of us is passed by an aircooled Ducati.... we'll have some explaining to do. ;)

I'm running "Hot Shoe".... with a big fat working class chip on my shoulder.... ;)

Am planning to bring the Suzuki along too. They allow anything to run on the Monday....

Will be busy in the garage this weekend with my bikes and my buddy's 900SS. If anyone wants to stop by for a tire kick and a beer, it'd be good to see you. John ('99X1), you gonna be around this weekend?

Kahuna, afraid I'm not likely going to be able to make Shannonville on Sunday.... Perhaps we could all get together for a rip on Saturday? Whaddaya say lads? Think it could be a lotta fun to meet/ride together before our bike track weekend.... Meet 9:30 at Hamilton's West Town restaurant for breakfast? Where the ugliest waitress.... is drop dead gorgeous.... :) :) :)

You guys and you care-free single existance make me want to PUKE! Just kidding! I can't make the ride on Saturday, I have more important things to attend to. Two of my son's have martial arts grading at 11:00, then I have to be at work for 2:15. Oh well. I'm free all day Sunday though???

Also spoke with a fellow named Brian Sparr who'll be there on his 130-odd HP 88" S1.... and his 72 year old father may join us on his S3.... Way to go, dad! Some other buddies are sure to show up also.... A good ride's shaping up here folks....
