Nuts,
Sorry about the wreck, glad you took the time to put your gear on. Shame you didn't take a little more to warm up your tires. We have all done it and usually get away with(but sometimes luck runs out) Maybe the taller bike is causing you to lean it farther than the"Ole Lighting",don't know. My shifter was under $90.00 but it's reverse pattern. They have the regular but it's more expensive(Storz).
Scared up boots give you clout when it comes to telling some of those tall tales....Charlie

Charlie, I have been noticing myself taking that particular corner rather aggressively. I sure need to settle myself down. That Uly is so comfortable it mesmerizes you with its facade of sanity. Then you realize your bike with hard luggage just flew past two clowns on race rep rockets.

I do love this bike and have every intention of riding it until I grow old. I am in no rush to be one of those fellas who quit riding after another trip to the hospital. I'll check into the the Stortz shifter tonight. NUTS

Dang, dude.
Glad you are O.K.(relatively speaking)

So, no broken clutch lever, or are you still using the "custom shortened" lever?

I have a stock shift lever I would be glad to send ya if you need it, but I don't have the linkage.(I think it's still the same part#, but it may be updated)

Folks, the clutch lever is in perfect shape. The customized one resides below the seat should the need to replace ever arise. I can't think of what could cause such a need!

Jim, I can say this was not just a "drop" but a bonafide motorcycle wreck. I have to keep reminding myself how serious it could have been if I would have made it to the next corner, or even into the twisties. I'm reminded of those scenes featuring Wyle E Coyote plummeting for thousands of feet from the cliff he just ran off. What Wyle doesn't know is the roadrunner moves so fast he can actually change direction and defy gravity for the exact amount of time necessary to see Wyle take yet another tumble.
At any rate I need the ACME catalog as I've a few ideas for that nuisance Roadrunner. NUTS

Nuts,
If your starting to think your Wyle Coyote maybe you need to back off those pain pills alittle.Wyle may come back from a cliff tumble, but you won't. You need to tone it down a little.LOL Be SAFE....Charlie

Charlie, I have already downgraded myself to "learner rider." I've got to get mirrors, and shifter before I even ride the bike again and I'll be keeping my flights of fancy on the ground for a good long while. After checking the damage again yesterday I shudder to think what could have happened if the speed was increased. For all my faults; I'm usually pretty good at recognising my errors and learning from them. NUTS

Hey Nuts,
Ya know just a thought. You got the heated hand grips for you, how about some heated tire covers for the ULY. That way when you head out in the cold morning, you can hit the ground running(so to speak). Not sure what they cost, but there were a few night races that we wished we had them. All the "big guns" had them on during intermission(seemed to make a difference)............Charlie

While he is at it he might as well order some heated coveralls too. Maybe then Nuts will be able to sit still for longer than 15 minutes at a time.
We finally fixed his peeing problem by not letting him drink for 12 hours before the hunt

Well fellas' me and Ole Nuts' had a fine day of hunting today.
We started out the afternoon with a bit of squirrel hunting and ended the day with some Raccoon calling. Nuts called both of those Coons' in for me with as purty a raccoon pup call as I've ever heard. Just about brought tears to my eyes it had so much emotion in it.
A pleasant break from the pressures of deer hunting and in all honesty much more exciting.

We are hitting the gun show tomorrow to fondle all the fine firearms our wives won't let us buy .

Nice days work guys. Never called up any racoons, when I lived in LA we used dogs for almost everything.Working the dogs is as much fun as the kill(maybe more) Loved the squirrel hunting too. Nice pic's, you guys have it good,enjoy..........Charlie

Jackie, looks like you all had a good time.

A question for you since I know very little about hunting. Do you have to worry about picking up diseases, particularly rabies, from the animals when you eat them, or does cooking them fix all that?

Nuts, or anyone who might know...
Got a question...

I noticed you using some sort of in-ear speakers while on our trip.

Are those the ones that came with the unit, or are you using something fancy like Shure, Etymotic, etc.?

If so, how do you like them?

I have an Autocom with the helmet speakers, but with plugs in, it just aint' the same. I was thinking about hacking off the speakers and splicing in some nice plug type speakers to fill both roles.
Plus I have a new toy arriving on the 25th that I must be able to hear. Clicky

Jim,
While hunting predators we are VERY cautious when handling them. In addition we don't go for headshots since the virus is contained in the brain and spinal tissue/fluids.
With squirrel we don't worry much about Rabies since they are rather delicate and probably would not survive an attack from a rabid animal.
Mostly just common sense stuff such as rubber gloves and not shooting sick looking or suspicious acting animals in the first place.

Tank, I was using a set of $50 Sony earbuds. They have excellent sound quality and come with 3 size rubber pieces, so real comfy. I rode from the cabin all the way to Roanoke without removing them. However, the left wire is shorter than the right and very bothersome. I'd look at the Sure brand if you aren't afraid of the $$$$$. You may want to search www.Advrider.com for reviews. Those folks are seriously into "STUFF." Keep on rockin' in the free world. NUTS

I actually did read some of the reports over there. Them dudes can drive a brother crazy with their freakin' "farkles".

I decided on a pair of Etymotic ER-6i's.
I think I might cry when it comes time to cut the plug off, though$$$

OH, nice haul, BTW. For some reason Jackie's pics didn't load earlier.

Charlie,
I hear ya' about the chase being even better than the kill. When calling the shot is only about 10% of the excitement of the hunt. First it is the adrenaline rush of hearing an animal that kills for a living coming straight at you in the pitch black darkness. Secondly when you hit the light and see multiple sets of eyes staring at you from all directions it really makes the imagination run wild and the heart pump faster.
This Friday evening we are going to target Bobcat and with a little luck I'll be able to jack up the taxidermy bill even more.

Tank,
When you gonna ride over here on that motorbike of yours? Me and Nuts will take you on a whirlwind excursion of hunting in the morning and then some backroads cruising in the afternoon.

Jackie,
I love the sound of a Bobcat Hunt. When I lived in Buchanan I had a cat that either lived or frequented my ridge. I never could find a den and the fact that there was so many deer there makes me think he was a commuter(just a hop, skip and a jump from the BRP),but to hear his scream at night would give you cold chills.I would have loved to have had him perched on my mantle. If I forgot and left the dogs in their outside pen, they would go crazy(Dobermans)then I would have to move them to the basement pens and that would be a handful. Send me a good pic, if you get him............Charlie

Charlie,
I was predator hunting one night without Nuts and started calling in the middle of a field with a ridge on each side. After about 15 minutes I heard a horrific wailing sound coming from the left side followed in short order by the same sound coming from the right ridge. Even though I knew they were Bobcats it still gave me an eerie feeling.
Kinda funny how when you are sitting in the woods at night all alone your mind can really play tricks on you. I will admit it took every ounce of nerve I had not to pack up and head back to the car. Course' if I would have done that then I wouldn't be able to tease Jason anymore about pulling his Glock when walking to his deer stand in the dark .

Jackie,
That would be a bit unnerving, but I've never heard of bobcats hunting together. Although cougars might and they are definitely in and around the "PEAKS". I saw one once on Rt.43 going to the BRP. Was real early(I was in the phone truck) broke out of the low fog near the top and he or she was bounding across the road.Got to see two maybe three strides before it went over the bank,no question it was a big cat.
So Nuts has a Glock for a possum gun, that's cool.LOL You never know when your gonna get "mugged" in the woods by a possum or a chipmunk.HeHe...Charlie

Charlie,
Me and Nuts had an encounter with a big Bobcat early this morning. Unfortunately we spooked him and although he was still hanging around the call I didn't think he would come in again so moved on to a "better" spot. Didn't see a freakin' thing there and spent the rest of the predawn time wishing we would have worked that cat some more.
Hopefully Friday will bring a picture of me and Mr. Whiskers for you to enjoy.
On another note, I have also seen a coougar in Franklin Co.. It and the deer it was chasing were killed by the same tractor trailer.
