Charlie,
After riding the S3 some the other day, I did notice a slight sucking noise under hard acceleration, A noise different than just throttle body noise.
So, Yesterday I pulled the backing plate off, checked everything, reinstalled, and then checked and reset the settings with the Digital Technician. I then went out during lunch and rode pretty hard. It seems to run better, but it still has a flat spot from 3000-4000 rpms. However from about 4500 to redline it pulls very strong. I think that if Dad gets used to the flat spot and rides through it he will enjoy the top end pull. otherwise he will have to go back to factory stock. Of course he could install the race ecm module, but I know that is out of the question.

Seth,
You might want to give it time to learn the new settings. Do you have the race ecm on yours? What exhaust do the two of you have? If the flat spot doesnt go away, you might try restricting some of the big air filter(wrap a strip of duct tape around half of it) to see if the flat spot disappears.........Charlie

Charlie,

Great idea with the duct tape. Pretending that the element is Indianapolis Motor Speedway, should I cover half of the filter by using a thin strip around the circumference of the "track"? Or cover half of the filter by covering Turns 3 & 4? I hope my analogy is as clear to you as it is to my Nascar programmed mind.

Oh, and the kit has been on the bike for about 500 miles. Plenty of time for the bike to learn the new settings.

Seth.

(for those watching, as you can see, no "leaked" photos or specs of the super tt.) sheeesh! I created enough of a mess over the weekend.

Well deer season has begun and so far it is a frustrating one for NUTS. Jackie has harvested 2 fine Virginia venison producers though. I'll be out in the AM to try and change my luck. We have each taken a turkey as well. Mine is all but eaten. I'll be combining wild turkey, squirrel and venison into a spicy chili for this weekend. MMMMMMMMTasty. NUTS

We've got lots of deer around Charlottesville. I just got back from taking the beagle for a walk up the street to visit other people's yards and there were four deer in the neighbor's yard, dining on expensive landscape shrubbery. My dog stopped and looked at them. They looked back. If they were in our yard, she'd have nearly turned herself inside out screaming and chasing and they would have lept over the fence with tails in the air but since they were on neutral ground they just sort of looked at each other.

That's a sad statement of the way things are. The freeking deer and dogs are USED to each other.

People get all wrapped up around the axle if you go out hunting but they get all wrapped up around the axle when their car smashes into Bambi. Go figure

Oh well, if the apocolypse comes tonight, there'll be venison tomorrow. The old Winchester 94 30-30 still shoots straight.

Charlie,
As Nuts said I have been blessed with two deer and we both have gotten our Fall turkeys. Although Nuts has yet to successfully connect he has had some experiences he will remember fondly as time goes on. With 4 1/2 weeks of deer season left and encounters almost every trip out I have no doubt our friend will soon have one in his freezer.
I am quite proud of the outdoorsman Jason has become. His patience, woodsmanship and accuracy have improved tremendously. Matter of fact he worked the caller to help me successfully harvest my bird. Sang such a sweet tune with that thing he kept them right by us even after I missed.
So how are things down SC ways?

Hey Jackie,
Glad you guy's are having fun. Would love to be there when Nuts gets his deer. Especially if he has to track him any distance after hitting him. Should be fun to watch.
Things in SC are pretty dull right now. The weather is pretty dreary (wet& cold) and the "Ole arthritis " (RA)is giving me a hard time right now. With any luck it will back off after awhile.
Hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas..............Charlie

Matt, I'll see if I can run out and show you around but I'll be having to ditch the in-laws. I'd consider running Lovers (58) to route 8N. I'd then ride the BRP (watch out for wet leaves!) North until you get to the Bent Mountain Exit. This section of the Parkway is nice and curvy! Take 221 North towards Roanoke. About 5 miles ahead the road starts to descend Bent Mtn, take the opportunity to notice 2 lanes going in the other direction. Once you get to where the 2 South bound lanes tun into one find a spot to turn around. I like going up the mountain much better and try to do it several times each trip. Watch out for ice and deer! I'll resume the rest of the directions when I get to work this evening. NUTS

Glad to hear you enjoyed the curves. Next time we'll have to get you out towards Catawba-Eagle Rock. Route 311 on Potts Mountain has brand new pavement. I'll be checking the GPS this morning for "Squirrel Spur" I've probably ridden it just don't know it by name. I have a habit of stumbling onto great roads. Like the time I was riding back from the Dragon and came through Shady Valley. Total fluke!

Everyone still stuffed with gobble bird or what? The ole Fast&Loose has been slowing down here recently, I can tell riding season is narrowing for most of you and Seth is avoiding the board because everyone thinks he's a tattle tale! NUTS

Nuts - So you found Shady Valley. : ) Not a bad road is it?

I was there a couple weeks ago, but my final destination was a road I found on google up near Tazewell:

Thats gotta be fun. I got dark about the time I made it to Marion, VA, so I had to bail. I don't think it would be much fun in the dark : )

Jim, I was planning on running down to Burkes Garden, it looks like there is a Uly road out. Downside is it'd be an all-day trip. Unfortunately I don't have any other all-day buddies with the same days off. When the Spring comes I'll have to plan to meet you down there and we can let the Uly's play. NUTS
