Just wanted to let yall know what a GREAT time I had. Thanks to Murrae for the organizing, thanks to CJ,Kim, etc for leading us around and keeping an eye on us so we could enjoy yall's local roads... Thanks to Brag and Marie for the support and Thanks to Mabel for getting me back into Santa Fe the last day without getting lost...
I really enjoyed yall's hospitality... Thanks again to all for putting up with us for a few days...The weather and roads were great. I'll keep my eyes and ears open and if there is a ride and/or rally next year, hmmm I see another road trip in my future...
I got out of town around 7:30 and thought I'd get an hour or two of road in and then stop and get some zzzzz... Well, that rest stop was closed and I didn't feel like backtracking to that one so before ya know it, it's around 1am and I'm in Amarillo, yeehaw...
Got back into Arlington and it was in the mid 90's with a bit of humidity, grrr... Yall send some of that cool, dry air this way... Please...
If I forgot anyone, sorry, road lag for a few days... Thanks to All...
Long Live the Bastard Pups...

Kevin, you would of had my vote for best sounding bike if there was a category. I love that special ops pipe. It was cool that so many people from all the different states made it in. I had a great time riding with the Colorado guys.
Zane, where are the pictures of the dirt rides? Did the ones from the Placitas road turn out any good?

Jason,

Sorry to hear about the crash! Hope you get to feeling better soon. Careful, with the head injuries, they have a way of catching when you least expected it.

OK, I finally got my pics out of the camera...

CJ1

Here is my bike at the shop on Friday Morning. You can see Nate in the background.

Santa Fe 1

This is the group coming down from Santa Fe Ski Basin on Friday. I was the last one up following Mary's brush with senility. How'd that Beemer get in there?

Santa Fe 2

Another shot of the group waiting on the tail end of the convoy.

Sandia 1

Here are a few of the bikes at the top of Sandia a short time later. Kim Ingraham's cool red X1 is front and center. And another of the "fast old guys" Jim Mosher rode his black S1W. You should see the tires on that thing... rough!

Shop 1

Here is the assembled masses on Saturday morning at the shop. I sort of expected to ride with the Colorado crew more on this adventure, but only Dean ventured out with us. All the others decided to sight-see.

Kim

Here it is obvious that Kim has had one too many Pepsi's and needs to be cut off.

The Linup

This is the row of bikes as we all enjoyed our lunch stop in Red River.

Fast Guys

Here, the "fast guys" take off while Murrae and his "sight-seers" barely arrive for lunch. Later, we'd pass the fast guys by taking a "short" cut thru the scenic route.

Happy Stop

This is one of the last stops on the return Saturday, in Truchas. While we were here waving at one another, the "fast guys" were saying a prayer of thanks at the Santuario de Chimayo. Apparently, they didn't expect it to be such a great weekend!

Brazos

This is pretty much my only picture from Sunday's ride thru the Brazos. This is taken at the top where they have a picnic area. In only 10 short minutes after this was taken, I would use up one of my nine lives.

Great job! Although I did not participate in all of it... The riding on Saturday and Sunday was a hoot!

Well it seems we all had a fantastic time this last weekend. There are some great pics on here... now if only I could find my rolls of film. When I do I'll put some on here.
I would like to thank everyone for showing up and having a good time riding. What a great showing of Buellers from all walks of life. It was nice to meet and ride with so many people. And a special thanks to all who made it possible... Murrae, Mable, Kim, CJ, Bart, Nate and Marie from BRAG.
I look forward to coming out again soon. It's still hot as hell here, but the mountains here are great and I'll be hitting them as much as possible.
If anyone would like to come over for a weekend and see what AZ has to offer I'd be more than happy to show you, and maybe even put you up in my spare room. Just let me know!

Kelly,
I was in AZ this weekend. I went with a buddy of mine that was buying an American Ironhorse from AZ Thundercycles. We trailered my bike so I could ride through 191 to NM. When the guy from AZ thundercycles asked what we were doing with a Buell in the trailer we told him. Right away he warned us about the cops. First thing he asked was " Do you have a motorcycle endorsement?" I said "NO" and right away he said " I wouldn't chance it dude. The cops are watching that road and if you go over the speed limit they will pull you over. The first thing they ask for is the endorsement on your license, and if you don't have it, they will impound your bike!"
Well,
I don't exactly have a clean record there in AZ, SO I didn't ride.
Is this true?
Thanks,
Rob.

Dude, just get the endorsement. Murrae is an instructor and classes are cheap compared to tickets. Besides, you might learn something!

Brewtus-
Every state requires either an endorsement or separate license to operate a motorcycle and/or scooter over 49cc's on public roads. New Mexico has such a law, but the enforcement policy is left to the local police and can range from a verbal warning to arrest and vehicle confiscation depending the mood of the officer and jurisdictional habits. Most other states have very well defined enforcement codes and since you are technically operating a motor vehicle without a license, your bike can be towed. We have a friend that had this happen in Colorado. You can always contact the DOT in any state or look at their website and find out about the enforcement policies.
We (the training community)have also recently heard that the state of New Mexico will be considering legislation next session to change the endorsement to a separate license, much like a CDL, for motorcycle operation and getting serious and consistent with enforcement state-wide. We've also heard that the only licenses that will be grandfathered will be those folks who have taken a safety course within 3 years. This is all rumor at this juncture, but wouldn't surprise me due to the dramatic increase in motorcycle deaths in the last few years. The feds are writing and giving grants to states as we speak to determine causation, develop strategies and increase available training.
Basically EVERYONE can benefit from training, no matter how long you've been riding, not to mention it saves you $$$ on your insurance. I survived our pucker event without freaking due to experience and extensive training and practice. How many of us practice real panic stops, stopping quickly in a curve or swerving on a regular basis? I get to every time I teach, but I also do it on my own bike every week.
For more info on training, you can go to www.ridersedge.com or www.msf-usa.com.

Glad everyone had a great time. Ride safe.

Murrae,
I heard from a guy I work with that you are an excellent teacher! I am planning on putting my girlfriend through your class here in the near future. I will probably attend too because I know I need help on those slow U-Turns.
Thanks guys,

While I haven't heard of anyone I know getting there bike towed, it is not out of the question. Murrae hit it on the head with his advice about the class and the license.
I guess I can't figure out my old school film cd getting the pics small enough to be put on here. I've got a several good pics of the ride so hopefully I'll figure it out sometime. Part of it is because I have to use someone else's pc so I can't go download any software. I guess it's time to go digital... That will have to wait since I just ordered a new set of Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's for my ride, even though it's back in the shop again for leaking oil all over the place again. F@#$%!!! Everytime time I turn around it needs something fixed.

Hey guys,

I just picked up an XB airbox bra for my Uly, but I'm going to go with the stainless scratch pad instead. The bra is still new in the box if anyone is interested. Retail is $29.95, Bad Web price thru Dave's is $26.95 + shipping. I'd like to sell local and avoid shipping if possible. $25 takes it if your interested. I'll post it to the big classifieds in a week or so if no one wants it. Just drop me a line if you are interested.

Thanks, Joel

Well, I moved into the house on the weekend of the 14th and then worked on the 21st. I am still doing jobs around the new house. For example, blinds still need to be installed in a few rooms and I have to place the exercise equipment in the gym. I also have to reorganize the garage so I can park the cars in there and get the automatic door opener installed. Once that's done, I'd like to begin landscaping.

But, you never know. I may go for a ride. Someday.

It's a lot of work, but it is usually worth it. Good to hear that you finally got moved in. But, don't be in too much of a hurry to get things done, it's not like it is going any where. Go ride!!!

I won't be riding for the next month. I went to see the hand specialist yesterday. My lt. thumb wasn't getting better from my wreak in Aug. The good news, he doesn't think that I need to have surgery. Bad news, I have to stop using my left thumb and wrist. How do you make that happen?.....

With a pretty purple cast! That completely covers my thumb and extends from mid palm to my elbow. It makes it impossible for me to move my thumb and really hard to move the rest of my hand.

Hey Folks-

Back from across the pond- what a trip. 900 pictures, 2500 kilometers. Best most courteous drivers I've ever been around. They love bikes in Europe. I'll try to get something on here when I have time. Maybe a bar-b-que and photo CD slide show. The 1200 GS was interesting- lower gearing, more compression and 98 octane gas ($4.50 a gallon and we think we have it rough)made it fun, but I still like the Uly better. The Beemer had no front end feel and the brakes were wooden. I got used to it enough to get a ticket in Spain.

Joel- I'm thinking of doing a skilled riders course on a Saturday- several Buellers have mentioned that they would like to do one for the insurance savings. If I get 4-6 riders signed up I can do a private class. Let me know what days will work-almost any day is fine-and let anyone else you know that might be interested. I can have up to 12 in a class.

Kimberly- Sorry to hear about the hand/cast. Clutch or throttle side? Heal fast.

CJ- way to go on the house, but Kimberly is right- it will be there for awhile.

Later,
Murrae

Murrae is willing to make it a "private" BRAG/BUELL course if he can get enough folks to sign up. Nov 4th, 18th, and 24th all are good for me. PLEASE POST A RESPONSE if you are interested. I would like to nail a date down real soon.

Folks-
The 25th it is (my calendar shows that Saturday as the 25th). The cost is usually $85.00. For a Buell/BRAG group I can discount it to $65.00. I think you can also get a $50.00 gift certificate from BRAG/HOG for the course. It looks like we have four so far, five if Jm signs up. I can make that work. I just loaded in a class, so go to www.santafeharley.com and click on the "Learn To Ride" banner. It is class #48, "skilled rider course". Just register and ignore the cost. I'll discount it in the system to $65.00+tax. If you don't want to use a credit card, put all "8's" in the credit card info and "will pay at shop" in the comments.
We'll start at the shop with bagels or something and watch a video then go to the range. There is a test at the end, but it's optional and only to show progress/understanding. You get the card either way.
Try to register as soon as possible- I put in 12 seats and will come here and make a final offer after you five sign up. I'll close the class officially but can get more riders in if needed. It would be great to just have Buells.
I can also do a class of six for the Beginning Rider Course that gets an endorsement with no further testing if anyone is interested. This is a class that is three evenings and two full days with two evaluations. It does provide the endorsement at the end with no state testing requirement.
Either card is good for 10-15% insurance discount depending on the company.
Later,
Murrae
