Hey Carlos...good to hear you got checked out, and I hope all is well. I'll turn 47 Nov. 9th. No major complaints yet, but you can be sure something will happen one of theses days. Almost forgot, I picked up a amber shield from denniskirk. The daytime colors are great. Nightime vision is also very good, but all cars now have yellow headlights. Kinda reminded me of British sportcars with the foglights on. I'll stay with the amber shield. Gotta go, time to pickup Luke. Take care...

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and thoughts for Carlos. I've always dealt with medical issues with my Daddy and sister, but when it's your spouse, it's totally different.

I don't think he's going to push it to get back on the bike until the entry site is completely healed. Should it start to bleed and not be controlled within 15 minutes, he could really be in serious trouble.

stay sane that would imply that I was sane before!

listen to the Docs. Of course I am sure Kristy has that part covered You bet I have that one covered! I know I can post here for some reinforcement if needed!

I'm sure it can be cured with additional Buell hats. no Buell hats for him for a little while.......

I always knew you had a BIG heart! That he does, at least now we know it's also healthy!

Kristi you may have to hide the Uly and M2 keys Might be easier to park the Suburban in front of the barn doors and hide the Suburban keys!

Of course, he did say something about taking his M2 (if it will start!) out west.....thanks for the idea Cyclone!! LOL Hope you enjoy your new bike, love the color scheme. Hope you have a safe trip picking up the M2.

Twig - I didn't know you had a Luke too! I just love that name. If I can just get my Luke past the terrible two's we might survive!

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Take care of yourselves and your families! Have no regrets.

Kristi

Dang I had a great afternoon! Finally got the buellhouse/clubhouse/doghouse wired up with 20 amp service. Now I have no excuses left to get the Ascot up and running by spring. I can't wait! ...Kristi, didn't you know all Lukes are badasses? Our Luke is almost 23 and has been doing so well lately.I'll send you a pm soon about our dear son.

all Lukes are badasses

So you're saying that if we survive Luke while he's little it will pay off in adulthood? He is certainly "wired" differently than our girls. I just look at him some days and think "it's a good thing you're cute".

Left pre-dawn this morning, got to Charlotte and placed the bike in the service area. At nine the festivities started. Tons of test rides around a decent loop. I rode:

Triumph Daytona 675. I was very impressed. This is a really nicely sorted out sport bike that I would seriously consider buying. I can't find one negative thing to say about it and would LOVE to try it on a track for a day!!! I liked it so much I rode it twice.

Triumph Rocket III. LOTS of stomp. Great brakes. Suckky handling. Heavy. Fun to ride but not my type.

Triumph Scrambler 900. Fun, docile, and pleasant. Good town bike.

Triumph Thruxton 900. TOns of fun and loves to corner. NOt very powerful but I can see why people love to run them in the Thruxton series.

Ducati SR2 800. Unimpressive.

Ducati GT1000. SWEET. Lots of snort, comfortable, great sound, and attractive.

There were several other bikes but I ran out of time and had ridden most of them already.

They had a cook out and the food was great as were the people. Then my bike was done, I talked to the tech and took off into the hills. I really don't know where I went but what a great day to ride. The bike was fabulous.

Is that the same TJ.She must have got her looks from Dad,cause Dad doesn'thave any looks left.
Just kidding Jim,She is definitely a beautiful young lady.

Brankin,
X-Fest was off the hook.
And there were some Odd people there,if they were looking attention they sure got mine.I guess Goth is in.There are a lot of great local bands that played,Far From Nowhere,New Bern Narallis, somewhere around LeJune,Ariel Down,Raleigh NC.The main attraction bands were no joke they rock too,I enjoyed the song Simple Man That Shinedown did the remake to.Skynnard would be proud.
I'm now going to sit back and hope my hearing comes back.I also felt like I was the oldest in the crowd but saw a grandma getting her freak on and that was funny.

Any way I'm tired and I will tell more later.
See you all LAter,Webe

I'm glad it's ya'll with the young teenage girls : ) Oh boy,,,,are you in for a ride so hold on and always remember 'this too shall pass.'

I'm laughing at you with empathy (can you do that?) My girls are 23 and 21 and nearing self-sufficiency (well, I did have to take $40.00 and beef jerky out to Jen tonight because she lost her debit card and she was hungry and she called her dad : ) )

Carlos, here's to a speedy recovery.

Found a new dirt road right in the back yard, it's near Raven Rock SP. Need to get some new software so I can post a picture here but if anyone is interested in a couple of shots check out my new smugmug site.

M2, I traded. One bike at a time for me. Sorry no pics yet, my daughter made off with my camera. Nice dirty bike though. It's really kind of an over the top bike. Never really meant to be a production bike as much as a concept bike. The HP's are handmade by BMW "skunkworks". I think they brought about 400 of them over. Born to be an enduro desert racer but actually quite a versatile bike with the two set of wheels. Very bare bones. What the GS should have been. Huge amounts of suspension, over 10.5 inches. Long, like 68.5 " wheelbase. Seat height almost 37 inches with the 21" knobbie front on. Light for a big bore 1200. Like 375 lbs dry. Pretty darn quick. I ran it up to 125 and the wind blast was pretty damn strong. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I can really scare the crap outta myself in the dirt without having to worry about losing my license. I've 'almost' dumped it about 20 times already. I was out on Ft. Bragg the other day and took it in a deep sand road that was all chewed up by HummVees and tanks. Loose sand a foot deep. I was sitting way back on that long flat seat holding the throttle at 30 and letting it find its way. It only got hairy when I chickened out and slowed down. Dirt/gravel roads are really fun. Saw 85mph on gravel the other day, kicking the back end out. Boy, that would be ugly if I went down! If I can ride it to 1/2 it's ability I'll be happy. SO it's a big rangey 100 hp/85 lb tq; 140+ mph street legal dirt bike with a 3 year warranty, roadside assistance, and a pair of road wheels to boot. Wish I was closer to Baja. I'm betting I won't see another one unless I go to a rally.

I know that road. I was out there today. I like to take US-1 down to the newhill-hollowman exit, and snake over there via back roads. I rode all the way down to Lillington today, turned around and rode back.

BTW, the BMW in that picture is Mike's new HP. I just have the Uly and the Blast.

OOPS sorry reading comprehension is everything. To many irons in the fire some days. Damn fine machine none the less, congrats Mike on the new ride. Something must be wrong with the sand down at Fort Bragg I did a little dirt nap on the Uly a little while back also. only got hairy when I chickened out and slowed down I should have hit the gas too but my brain was saying "NOOOO got to slow down" to my wrist. Everything went down hill fast after that.

The roads around Harris lake, the power plant and back to Lillington/Angier is where I go to blow off steam and get the head back on strait. Some pretty good back road riding and not much traffic. I can do a 100 mile loop and be back to the house before anyone misses me. We should compare notes sometime I'm sure there are a few great ones I have yet to discover.

Mike - I also discovered the fun of off pavement roads and trails when I got the Uly. You can have as much fun under 50mph as you do on paved roads at 100mph. It is more challenging and so it is fun at slower speeds.

I am looking for another bike as a daily rider. I need something to share mileage with the Uly. I thought about putting a stock muffler back on the M2 so I do not feel guilty about 6:30am departures from the neighborhood and just using it, but Kristi talked me out of it. It will be my weekend hooligan bike and the Uly will be my two-up touring bike. I just need a daily rider and then maybe something a little more dirt oriented like a KLR to fill my stable. The question is am I going to get the Blast or a KLR first, depends on what I find.

Oh, we need to talk. : ) I live down there if I'm after a 1 or 2 hour ride. It's the closest route to rural twisty roads that I have found.

Here is one of my usual roads. I can't make google map the whole thing. It wants to keep me off backroads.

OH yes that's what I'm talking about.
Try running the Kipling RD until you hit Kipling/401 turn RT onto 401 then immediately LT onto Harnett Central road until you hit 210. The lines on my topo map are close together (as much as you get in the sandhills anyway) and that is always a good thing.

Well, my last day here in NC is November 20. I'm heading out of town that day. We are packing up and getting ready. The packers will be here the 15th to start boxing us up and they are supposed to load us up on the 17th.

We are heading to my parents in TN for Thanksgiving and then we are moving to McAlester, OK.

Hey Southern Marine, let me be the first to tell you thank you for your many many years of service in your's and mine, and the other hard corps out there's Marine Corps. There are very few of us and quite frankly very few people like yourself that devote your career to defending America. The same America that we enjoy while riding out bikes and worrying about which back road to go on while people like yourself and others are out there like you get the unfortunate experience of being able to tell the difference between AK-47 and M-16 by hearing just 2 rounds or being able to tell how far and how many pound motor that is that just hit the ground by it's concussion and sound. Anyone can put a magnet on their car and say they support you, but you are a Rare Breed, my friend. Rare Breed. You take with you a lifetime of experience. Hopefully the time you spent here will be with you forever.

So from me to you and to others like you... Thank you.

Good luck in the civilian world, Dave.

Semper Fidelis.

Thank you for you service, friendship and the cool C3 Symbol. All the best in the future to you and like the Marines, once a C3'er always a C3'er so stay in touch.

David - best of luck on your new endeavor, you certainly deserve the best. You have made a difference in lives of people who will never have the pleasure of meeting you. We as civilians owe service people a debt of gratitude that we will never be able to repay. Carry with you that we appreciate your service to this country.
We will miss you here in eastern NC, but will always remember Southern Marine each time we see on our helmets, cars, etc. Please drop us a line when you get settled.
