Glitch - Come join us at Boone this weekend. We have room in the cabin, a replica of C3 Central in Suches. You can show us all the good roads.

Oh, also if it seems quite, Ulywife has managed to ban herself from Badweb so enjoy the peace and quiet.

Oh and don't go after poor Blake, its some kind of technical issues probably because of her work with RAN. Something having to do with too many PM or some thing.

Enjoy.

Carlos,

181's a must,,,,,,221 too,,,,I could go on. GFM's a tricky little trip to the top too,,,,they've recently raised the entrance price but the view's almost as good as the road up : )

I figure I'll see Nance out and about early on Saturday AM before all the sleepy heads start rolling out : ) I just need a fog-free morning on Saturday.

You guys have to check out old 18. Look on the map and you'll see it looping off 18 to the west. There are a couple of diminishing radius turns that are a blast. Be careful though, there also deceptive.

I felt a lot better riding this time. Line was better, lane control was solid and I felt a whole lot more confident. Didn’t scare myself once. I don’t think I was much faster though and didn’t make any progress on the chicken strips. I still feel like I’m fighting the bike to get it to lean and hold my line. I’m going to have to get Bigdaddy or U4eah or someone to give me some coaching or pointers.

I was browsing through threads on suspension settings and read somewhere about counter-steering. This seemed counter intuitive. Sounded like a really good way to have a tank slapper. But on my ride home from work I started experimenting with it and the bike seemed to lean much more easily and naturally. Is this what I’m doing wrong and why a felt like I was fighting the bike to get it to lean?

Heh, I'm just waiting for it to get late enough so I can get up and go to work. I woke up at 3:30, but that seemed a bit early to get out of bed. If we weren't going to Boone, I'd have hopped on the bike and taken off to parts unknown.

BTW, is Branking going to Boone? Rebecca really hopes he is.

Yea, it's counter intuitive. But it works.

I'm going to assume you haven't taken the MSF class because they teach counter steering there? I can't say enough good things about that class. You'll never regret taking it.

Anyway, since you ask about curves, the mantra the MSF gives you to remember is slow-look-press-lean-roll, which is the order you should do things.

slow - Slow the bike down before the curve. Don't use the brakes in the curve.

look - look through the curve. This is the part I always mess up, and it makes a huge difference. When you're in the curve, turn your head (not just your eyes) and look way down the road to where the bike will be when you're finished with the curve.

press - This is the counter steering.

lean - comes from the press above.

roll - roll on the throttle. The bike handles better if you accelerate out of the turns.

Of all these, it's the look thats most important.

Why would we want to do a crazy thing like that?

Anyway I hope you all have a great time in Boone, really wish I could go, but I have so many iron's in the fire already. I did make a short stop at the "Rally in Raleigh" Sat. Was cool, had 7 people looking at the Bolt before I got off. Then my Dad and his "thing" (wife) show up. Keeps telling me I need to sign up to win the Harley's so I can own a real bike. I finally got aggrivated and told her "Why would I want a bike that the most up to date technology on it was the alarm. Asked her why I would want to pay that much for technology that is 40 plus years old....When I could by me a BMW with up to date technology. Yes I know I should'nt have said those things, but I was tired of hearing about me not having a "real Bike". Larry

JimN, I know a few great breakfast spots in Blowing Rock,,,yes I do and it looks like the wife is working,,,,so no one will be along to be my health auditor : )

Spectrum,

I know 18 and old 18. You're doing fine and you're doing it the right way. I'll do anything I can to help you increase your twisty skill level -- that is also increasing your safety quotient. It takes time and effort to do it safely IMHO. Are you still scheduled to be out of town this weekend?

I might need to bring something other than the Uly if this is a bombing run : )

Jim - Thanks for the MSF curve mini course. I took a MSF like course 18 years or so ago when I first got my endorsement. They didn't have anything in that course about counter-steering. They did talk about the importance of "looking at where you want to go". I do plan to take the Experienced Rider course soon. Just havn't been able to find a date that doesn't conflict with the work schedule.

Greg - Thanks for the offer, I'll take you up on some coaching next time we get a chance to ride.

Yes, I'm leaving the country on Thursday and will be out for 10 days.

Hope you all have lots of fun at Boone, and please be safe.

My motto for the C3 Boone trip is also my life motto.
Indecision is the key to flexibility.

Nance and I are sure to have a Blast too.And I'll probably need a Blast depending what era of the 70's music we listen to on the way to Boone.I like a wide range of music so I will be fine.
Oh yea,did I mention that there was only 2 more work days till the trip.
Well I've said enough.
Later all,Webe

Glitch - Come join us at Boone this weekend.
I'll do my very best.
Colin's Homecoming is Friday night, so I'll try to make it up Saturday AM.
The last time I was at Boone was at the BRAG event two years ago, I've been in the area since, just not to Boone.
I really love Valle Crucis, I've spent much time there.

Well, looks like I've lost the stator.
I got home last night from installing new brakes and rotor, park the bike in the garage, and smell that tell tale smelly smell of primary oil. A quick check proves no leaks. I'm left to think my stator is/has gone out.
47,000 miles.
My first stator lasted 19,000 miles.
Both stators were bathing in Mobil1, although the second had a change after I found out about the issues with Mobil1 in the primary. So, it looks like I'm not going to be able to make it this weekend.
I'd still have hope, if I hadn't just spent all my Buell money on the fork re-build, brakes, and a rotor within the week.
I hate to miss y'all, take pictures, and think of me while in the great crooked roads I love so much.

I'll let y'all know as soon as we know.
The schedule for the truck isn't made until the first of the year for some reason.
Usually right after Daytona Bike Week, is the soonest we can get it.

SIX MONTHS TIL MBIV !!!

Maybe next summer we should plan a "Border Raid" in the NC mountains. VA/TN/NC/SC/GA......we'll have to start planning!

NO!!!!!!! Are you kidding, do you know how many people try to figure out my C3 magnet and decal on my truck and van! It's funny. At least now the Demo driver knows what it is and what it means! Who else has tagged the demo truck

Remind me, I'll have bumper stickers that Crusty sent me if anyone wants one. It's the Save a Life, Look Twice, Motorcycles are Everywhere. I already have one on my truck.
