Carlos & Wes - Sorry it's taking me so long to decide what I'm doing. I'll get it figured out soon.

Thanks for the invite Carlos, but tomorrow I'm riding into the western part of the state. I'm hoping to stay with mom, but thats up in the air at the moment. Toxic from Fayetteville is going to the Gap tomorrow and I'm going to hunt him down up there. Also on Sunday Nuts & Tank from VA are headed to the Gap and I'd like to meet them as well. I'm taking Monday off from work and will ride back that afternoon.

Does anyone want to come with me?

Wish I could go Nance, but you probably don't have to guess where I'll be the next two Saturdays. Been feeling the need for a long ride. It might have to wait until the Boone trip. Ride safe and have a great time!

Kinda funny that the first 'problem' I had with my V-Rod was a coolant leak...

And speaking from my experiences wrenching on the V-Rod vs. wrenching on the S2, I much more prefer air cooled 'lumps' myself.

More on this later...

Was playing in photoshop a little, figured I'd post here to see what you guys think:

Before:

orig

After:

mikes

I know, I know, lots of rough edges. I just wanted to get an idea of what the Uly would look like with a few changes. Changes include removal of front fender, removal of mirrors, shortened windshield, lower handlebars, and shortened license plate bracket.

Its good to see you post again Spike.

I'm glad you listed the changes you made. I'd never have found them otherwise. :-)

You all have a great weekend!

Good moves Spike, I keep thinking of what the Uly would look like with a regular XB fender, some bar end mirrors, some short bars, and front windscreen from a XB12S....

Like a XB Uly hybrid

Okay, I'm REALLY not trying to get my hopes up about Utah. I've been checking out the area and stumbled across Canyonchasers.com and found photos of where they ride out there. Here is a couple of roads in the area.

In all of their photo's, there is something that my wife and I noticed. Hardly ANY vehicles on the road.

Beautiful day to ride!! I rode the bike to work today and noticed that the front motor mount had one of the bolts break and the only thing that held it in was the clutch cable that ran in front of it. Judging by the length of the bolt ( which broke right at the beginning of the threads) I don't think there will be anything to grab onto to get it out. I want to ride to the meeting in Goldsboro this coming Saturday so I am having my wife drive up here with the kids to pick me up. I am going to leave the bike here at my shop since it would be easier to work on it here than at the apartment. Hopefully I will not have to remove the head.

Dave (Cyclone),
It is a fairly easy procedure - mainly if someone has gone through it before. A friend of mine in Germany who owns a KILLER X1 came over for Homecoming in 2005. Through a friend of mine back in Wisconsin I arranged the use of a S3 for my friend. The same thing happened on the S3 he was borrowing just as we pulled into the host hotel in West Bend. The next morning he cautiously rode the bike to the dealer (only about 2 or 3 blocks) and the service tech obviously had done the procedure before as it took him no time to do the job.

Here's the procedure (when the bike is upright, held in place on a lift or rear wheel stand):
1. Support the front shock mount with a jack (you will need to adjust it up and down throughout the procedure so it has to be capable of adjustment - scissors type or hydraulic will be fine).
2. Remove the bolt that is not broken.
3. Lower jack, effectively lowering or rotating the engine in the frame.
4. Drill in the center of the remnants of the broken off bolt. Most would recommend NOT using an easy out, but the piece my friend from Germany has as a souvenir only has a small hole drilled in the center of it. Since the bolt lost its clamp load when it broke it should be fairly easy to remove, so in this case the easy out just gives you something to grip the remnants of the bolt with.
5. Once the rest of the broken bolt is removed, the motor can be jacked back up into position and ideally new fasteners (both bolts and both washers) would be installed. I don't recall what the torque spec is for these bolts at the moment.

Spike,
Good work with photoshop! Pretty soon you will be giving Glitch a run for his money. Seriously, I don't notice the 'rough edges' of which you speak. Will you be at the meeting next Saturday? I will bring the stuff I have for you then if you will be there.

Soutern Marine,
The parts of Utah I was in were beautiful and not very heavy populated. For the mid-morning to lunch leg of the trip on one day I was on one of the XB9R's while the guy who arranged the trip was on the other one. I jumped on mine and immediately took it up to 110 mph. The other guy couldn't resist and kept pace with me. We did 110 - okay maybe slowing down to 80 for some of the curves - all the way to where we were stopping for lunch that day. Immediately after we got off the XB9R's at the lunch stop, the other guy came over to me exclaiming to me how much fun he had and that it was the fastest he went on the whole trip! We had to wait about 20 minutes for the rest of the guys to finally arrive at the lunch stop. Best of luck to you!

Y--e--a--h R--i--g--h--t!

Good Luck Southern!

Good Luck to you to Cyclone. I hope you can make it to the meeting next week.

As for today. I thought I would see one of us on TV, but no such luck. We did the Salute ride the Webe and friends put on. It was allot of fun with 110 bikes and 135 participants.

After the ride we rode from Britt Motorsports in Kinston to Shelton's for HD national open house. I test rode an '07 Super Glide with the 96" V-Twin and six-speed transmission. I was impressed with the power band. For a stock HD motor with 44 miles on it, the bike pulled hard from lower RPM range and unlike a stock 88" was happy to rev. I actually shifted the bike before I hit the rev limiter (Poor bike was not even broke in yet). Snatched second gear hard enough to hop the front wheel. The Sixth gear is sweet. I wish I had it on the Uly. Below 50mph the sixth gear is too low. But at 65-70mph shift into sixth and a little "6" lights up on the speedo and the revs drop and I mean drop. The Super Glide does not have a tach, but I would guess somewhere in the 2400-2600rpm range. The tranny shifts smoothly and never gave me any trouble getting use to it. The sound of the motor is good. The stock mufflers have a deep sound, though legally quiet, and if I owned one, I probably would leave it alone. Typical complaints for Harleys though, the brakes are weak and I need an adjustable suspension.

I just spoke to Jim N. He was in Dillsboro heading toward Asheville to see his Mom. Sounds like he had a great time and he's very appreciative of the sweatshirt, Bigdaddy! He met some of the Roanoke crowd plus guys from Williamsburg, VA and somewhere in Ohio. You Badwebbers are a very social group! He doesn't expect to get home til around 9:30 or 10:00 pm tonight. So look for a post about 15 minutes after he gets in!

Jim N. was in Asheville over the weekend? Hmm, makes me wonder who I saw on the black Ulysses riding through Apex on Sunday morning. It had some sort of bag on the tail, but it wasn't the OEM bags.

Side note- The wife and I spent a few days in Western NC last week, but we were in the turbo6 rather than on the bike. We stayed in Boone one night and wandered down to Asheville the next night. I hadn't been up there in a while, almost forgot how beautiful the mountains are. Now the wife wants to move to Asheville. I'm not completely sold on the idea yet, but it would make for better riding.

1313- Doesn't look like I'll make it to the meeting this Saturday, have some family events planned. If something changes I'll let you know.

Spike - I understand. I was paged from a meeting at work for a phone call. When I picked it up it was Kristi asking me if I had the side bags on my bike. I said no. Ends up she saw an Orange Uly going the other way on hwy 11 and realized it wasn't me on the bike. She was chasing the bike and if she did not get up with me she was about to call a friend who is a police officer in the next town. Good thing she got a hold of me because this poor 60ish year old man on a 8,000 mile dream ride would have been pulled for Bike theft just because he was riding an Orange Uly in eastern North Carolina. So be warned, my Orange Uly is the only one allowed east of I-95.

As you can see she did finally catch the guy. He like I said was on an 8,000 mile ride from Texas and was looping around the North Carolina coast before heading north, then he turned west.

1247 miles. I'll tell the story when I'm not so tired. It was a weekend for Ulys in the mountains:

Me - Black Uly
Bigdaddy - Black Uly
Toxic - Black Uly
Bike at Two - Black Uly
Nutsane - Black Uly

Alright, I was taken a little by surprise today when a colleague from Germany with a German style chopper (pic below) asked me if I knew of a XB12S for sale.

Christian's Chopper

He's looking for a used one. His goals are in the neighborhood of a couple of thousand miles on the clock, around $7,500 and somewhere not too far away. He only wants a 12S - no Ss - but said the Scg may be better for his wife to ride. Year is not important to him, even though I recommended an '06 for the helical gear tranny. He will be taking the Buell back to Berlin and will try to sell the chopper here before he leaves.

Anyone got any leads or ideas? Any advice? Are his goals even acheivable? I'm assuming a used bike at a dealership would be outside of his goals...

Thanks,
1313
