Jj, glad you enjoyed my FL ride report. Looking forward to meeting/riding with some of you guys.

I have this week off and plan to do some riding in northern NM - currently have routes planned from 300-600 miles.

Gotta shoot for that 20,000-mile/year average on the ol' Uly! Show those GS guys something...

20,000 a year!!! You just have to hang out with Bart. He puts about that on EACH of his bikes each year!!

I figure I only need the rear. But then again, I need the oil changed and all that. IT's the cost right now. I'm only a couple of weeks from closing on a new house, have a marginal job/income, and don't want to blow the little surplus I've got on part/labor while I have a down payment and closing costs looming. Following the closing, I'll spring large for it.

I'm doing family day today, but next week I should be clear to ride. The schedule says HOG/BRAG ride TBA. I think we can put something together that'll get some blood pumping, eh? As long as we're a full week out, perhaps suggestions? Then when we're sure, I'll phone those that are not on the email list.

I vote for Chama via TA/TP, Taos, etc. Back by the same route. But an early start, like meet at the shop at 0800.

Yea, I can crank out some miles, LOL.
Mona and I will be leaving Friday for New England via Deals Gap, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Should be between 6 or 7 thousand miles total. We won't be back until the end of August so count us out of any local rides. : )

As for the tire, if you want it, you can have it, and pay me in a month or two, whenever. They can mount rear tires at the Yamaha/Ducati shop on Juan Tabo just north of Candeleria for about $40. That's half the price the Stealership charges. They've done all my Buells since February.
If you have a tuber, you need to double check the belt tension, since they tighten it like it was a Kawa or Yamaha... (Too tight) I'm still trying to train them, LOL.
You can do the oil change yourself for about $25, dude.

Have fun on the rides, see you guys next month...

OH, and here's some pics of the storm today up in the NE area of Albuquerque. This was right next to my apartment complex...

That tree was uprooted by the storm we had around noon, and the pics were taken during the storm around 5PM.

hmm.. tempting offer. If I do take it, it'll have to be before you go! I'm working noon to 11pm every night this week. Can you drop it off to me at Wyoming and Academy? I'll be at the Whole Foods. Call me on my cell.

CJ,
I'm working in Gallup this week. I should be back Thursday night. If so, I'd be available when you got off work, or before you go into work on Friday.
Tried to call you, but think you may have been at work. Call me tomorrow before you go to work, OK?

I don't think so. Way back when, Murrae talked to someone over at Thunderbird who basically said that they weren't doing it. Maybe I'll buzz over to their site to see if they have anything listed. The way Chick used to do it, it was a really big deal, up in Taos all weekend, banquet, etc. It was cool. I'm off Saturday and Sunday and intend to ride somewhere on Sunday. If you guys wanna go to Taos, we can do that.

There are a few in CO that are riding around Silverton this weekend.

Hi Kim, We`ll arrive in Silverton fri.night and goof off with dinner & beer`s. Saturday, we`ll get a later start ( after breakfast) and head north to Ridgway and west on Hwy 62 to Placerville, then north on Hwy 145 to Hwy 141 toward Grand Junction. I`m thinking about a later (earlier, depending on speed?) lunch/break in Naturita or maybe Gateway, depending on how we feel. We`ll be coming back southward on Hwy 50 to Montrose and then back down 550 to Silverton in the later afternoon , then dinner and more beers and bs`ing.

I was going to go, but instead I'm going to teach on Sat. But, I have Sunday open for a ride. I was hoping that the some of the BRAG guys around here would wake up and wanna ride.

So Taos on Sunday? If we don't dally around too much we could go over to Angel Fire and back down that way. I know it makes a really long day for those from Abq. so we'll have to see who's up for it.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I've got only two more weeks to put another 1,000 miles on my bike. I wanna hit 12,000 miles or more before our one year anniversary.

Kim

Damn, girl! It took me right at two years to get that many miles.

I'm itchin to do that TA/TP run because I haven't done it in forever. I don't care how we come back. Maybe we could go to Taos, then TA/TP, then TP/TA, then whatever.

I do think we should leave out of the shop earlier. How about meet at the shop at 0830 and kickstands up at 0900?

Yup, we missed everyone today.

Hey CJ, if we had done the Jemez today, you too could have ridden through 12 rivers of mud.

How do you like my Buell dirt bike?

I think it needs a bath!!!

It actually handled really well through the mud. I was a little worried, when I saw the water up to the rocker panels on the Subaru in front of me.

Kim,
your such a badass! ;)

So I take it, it's still raining out there?
We've actually seen little rain so far, we're in upstate NY now.
Deals Gap was schweet! and the Blue Ridge Parkway was even sweeter. Mona had a small incident on the Parkway in Virginia, and now has a sprained wrist and a new '07 Lowrider. I'll let her explain it.
We'll be posting pics when we get back next weekend. Try to stay dry, see youse guys soon!

Well I did it today. My very first (hopefully my last) highside. I also did my first stoppie today, prior to highsiding the bike in a ditch. Can't say that I want to try that again either.

But, that bike is really quite hardy, not really any damage to it. Other then busting off both my rather expensive Rizoma mirrors, I think that I broke the one on the left with my left knee. A bent front brake lever, some scrapes on the windscreen, frame and frame pucks and the laminar lip that I have on it. It was leaking brake fluid a bit but we, managed to fix that by tightening up the nut. I was able to ride it back to santa fe from black lake. I did discover that I don't like riding without mirrors.

I'm thinking that I'll take it to the shop tomorrow and try to get them to do a bit of a safety check and have them order the new brake lever and anything else that might need to be replaced.

As to rider damage, I have a really sore left knee, sprained left thumb, sore right shoulder, and sprained right ankle. I'm really luck the right ankle didn't break as at one point in the ditch, it was under the bike and twisted the wrong way.

If I wasn't such a newbie I would have been able to avoid it. I went into a corner a little to fast that had lose gravel. The bike slide a little, I got it back and upright and then tried to slow down == too much and then I ran outta road.

Glad to hear you are still in one piece. With all the rain around here lately there is gravel EVERYWHERE

I was going to do this
http://www.lightningcustoms.com/events/event_2369.html
It is a School Supply Benefit ride through the East mountains. I don't have enough time to do the BRAG ride tomorrow.

I also wanted to do a Albuquerque Buell Riders roll call. I see a Lightining all the time around my work, and I saw a firebolt yesterday. I would just like to know if the are on here.

So today's ride was awesome, it consisted of going from my apartment on the north end of down, down agua fria, made a stop to get gas. Dealership by 9:25....

Back up cerrillos to st. francis, to my apartment by 10:00.

I didn't bring my camera though.

I had done the ski hill yesterday and i wasn't adventurous enough to try to go to sandia peak alone.

I guess i should wait for the major players to be in town, and with repaired bikes and un-sprained wrists/ankels.

Kim,
sorry to hear you went down, glad to hear you did ok, and was able to ride it home.
Gravel can bring even a veteran rider down.

Alex,
sorry to hear nobody showed up for the ride today. : (
We should post the directors phone number and give him a call every sunday morning to see who's going to lead the ride... ;)

We're back in town, made it back late this afternoon. A rather eventful day yesterday with the rain and all. My S2 started leaving parts on the road in the middle of a torrential downpour we were riding through, and my ignition switch took a crap.

Doubt if we will make next weekends ride, I need to decompress from the past two weeks, and Mona's hot tub sounds like the place to do it. ;)
Besides, my butt hurts!!!
Someone call me a Waambulance!

I couldn't ride this past weekend due to family activities. I try to get free at least every other weekend, but it doesn't always work out that way. Luis called me up on Saturday to see if we were riding and I told him that I wasn't, so I guess he bailed. I stopped myself mid-day and noticed the irony of the weather. It was raining like a mother last week when I rode, and this week it was sunny and nice all day.

So, having taken Sunday off, I decided to get out today since I was off. I rode just a short ride up the crest. I still haven't changed that tire, but for the crest road, it's fine. It's still got plenty of rubber on the sides, which was where I kept it the entire time I was up there. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. No matter how hard I try (within acceptable limits!) I can't seem to get that knee down. I really rode the hell out of the corners and was leaning way over. In one corner, I realized that even though I was looking all the way thru the curve, I could see the pavement as if I was laying on it. And I still didn't touch down! I checked the tire afterward and I was getting all the way to the edge on the rear and less than a finger's width from the edge on the front.

I may take the bike in tomorrow or Thursday to get that new tire put on. I may have to cut Bart's check this week too. He's got this weird business on the side. He buys stuff and then doesn't use it. He sells it to you for nearly the same money that he paid for it. He makes no money on these deals. And in one case, he bough the stuff back from me later for the same price I gave him despite me having farted in that suit like a million times. (I had to. I needed to get the cigarette smell out of it.)

Anyway, I doubt I'll be going to Arizona this weekend, but am looking forward to the Wicked Twisties tour. If some of you have not already signed up, you should talk to Murrae this week. He's ordering the shirts and you don't want to be left out. He also said that since Queensryche is playing here on Oct 1st, and since they are riding cross country on Buells for some promotional stunt, he's trying to get them to come out a few days early and ride with us and also trying to get Erik Buell to come with them. We'll see how successful he is. (Fingers Crossed)

See youse.

Allright, yall help me out... The Home page for the Brag group says the ride is 9/29-10/1 which was what I was planning for... The schedule for the ride says 9/22-9/24... Which one is it??? I was planning on coming but don't know when to make reservations for???
One other thing, there is a Hyde Memorial state park which is supposed to be 8 miles NE of Santa Fe Plaza?, is that anywhere close to the dealership???

Thanks a lot, Kevin

The dates are definitely the 29th to the 1st.

Kevin,

Hyde Memorial state park is close enough to the dealership, I'd guess from the park to the dealership is about 15 miles and takes about 20-25 minutes.

Since when am I the Assistant Director? I thought YOU were the Assistant Director. You are the one that made that schedule, not me. And, for the record, I don't recall posting anything about wrong dates, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. So, sorry if I inadvertantly freaked you out.

And for someone not from NM, 15 miles may seem like a lot. I remember when I was in CA, I'd look stuff up to go see and it would be like 15 miles away, and would take like six days to get there. Thank God that's over.

Anyway, I'm also planning on the 29th thru the first and it should be fun since I think I'll be closing on a house one of those days!

Um, the schedule I made did not include the Enchanted Twisties ride.

YOU became the Asst. Director when you returned. I quit when I was reprimanded by the director for reprimanding the squid (Bill Conway) for passing newer riders in the same lane, and for letting Mona reprimand the other squid (the dude named Kim) after he passed her in the same lane.

I don't condone that style of riding, when in a group.
Those individuals need to stay away from me as I'm not responsible for my actions when I witness "squidlike" riding techniques.

These group rides are a social ride.
It is a way for all of us to get out, and enjoy our bikes, the roads, the scenery, and the friendship.
Hauling ass, and playing ricky-racer is for the track, not a group ride.

Perhaps this would be a good time for everyone to read these excellent articles:
