Kristi,

I will be traveling on business 1-2 weeks in October, not sure of the dates yet. If the trips don't overlap and there still availability in the cabin, I'll definitely join. I'll let you know when I have firm plans.

Going to try to find the time to put the new pipe and ecm on the bike today.

By the way I now have the software to do TPS resets if anyone is in need.

Guys - Looks like you had a great ride. I wish I was there. My riding partners were stinging the hell out of me. I have to look up where this 181 is and have to go do it one day.

G2 - You kill me!

Spectrum - I hope you make it. It will be a weekend full of mountain roads.

Went for a little ride by myself today, made quite a few runs up and down Old Maple Hill. Quite fun. : ) Had a bit of a scare though. I was doing about 75 or so and come around a corner and saw a deer run across about 150' in front of me. I figured there might be more, so I ease off the throttle and low and behold, about 10 - 15' in front of me one jumped out and ran across. Luckily I had gone to the bathroom before my ride. : )

When I was finished I stopped by NRHD and found these;

Patches

Price

don't know if you can make out the price, but the pack cost $20, well there is a 10% discount. (not too bad a picture, considering I took those with my phone)

Nope, I didn't buy them, didn't have the money on me. Sorry fellas, but they are still there.

Went out for a ride this morning and ended up at Morrow Mtn. Was sort of hoping to stumble across Jim or Mike up there, but no such luck. Just a few Harleys. I got off and walked around for a while. A couple guys rode up, and one of them was on a red bike. For a second I thought it might be a Blast. Then I decided it was a Ducatti. Then he turned the corner and I got a look at the headers and knew it was a Buell. But it didn't have any Buell decals on it, and had a lot of aftermarket parts, so I didn't know what it was. Some sort of tuber.

I walked over and asked the guy if it was a Cyclone. He had no idea, it was his dad's bike. So I turn to Dad, and repeat my question. Dad says it's a Lightning, which I've since figured out means an X1. He said he didn't know much about Buells, but the Pinehurst HD dealer had 2 of them he had taken in on trade, and this guy had bought 1 of them.

He was a nice guy. Lived in Carthage, and had 3 other Harleys. I find it kind of odd that someone would walk into a Harley dealer and buy a Buell w/o knowing anything about them. But he got himself a nice bike.

G2 - you are a crack-up....the biscuits. Gotta love it. Only couples married as long as we've been can say/take things like that in stride!

Spectrum - hopefully you can make Boone. Just post on the thread in the Adventure folder so I can keep a head count!

JimR - great pictures, as usual! Has Sabrina started school yet? We start tomorrow...technically later today!

JimR sorry I missed the ride my cell phone has been screwed up got a new one today. But things worked out better any way.I got email about 8pm last night from afriend to come to a party on high rock lake. She said there was a woman there that wanted to meet me so I took a shower and took of on my bike.Turns out most of the people there were local rep. polical figures, doctors and a couple of lawyers. I sort of felt like a turd in a punch bowel!Met the lady and we hit it off great! She had never been on bike before. I picked her up today and we rode about 120 miles. went to moorsville to get my new phone had lunch then took off and rode around High Rock for awhile. stopped at Tamarac for gas 3 guys on japanees bikes walked up and started asking about Buells they basicly new what it was but had never seen one before. After the ride Rosemary said she now under stood why people ride. She said the whole exspearance was wonderful she said she noticed so much more than a boreing ride in a car.she can't wait for our next ride! Here I take the classest woman I have ever dated, and turn her into a biker woman!! and she loved it!!

Glenn-Glad you got the phone prob takin care of. Same # or did you get a new one. Sounds like you had a great night and day. felt like a turd in a punch bowl
I bet most of us Buell owners feel that way at one point or another! Then the roles get reversed!
Will she be on more rides? Congrats

There's nothing wrong with a classy biker woman! Makes everyone else turn their head and wonder what they're missing!! Glad you had a good day and met a nice woman.

JimR - I was up late because I slept in Sun AM and then ended up taking a good 2 hour nap during the day. I love some sleep! But then of course, I couldn't sleep last night. Nor could my children. They should be fun this AM! Last year we started school around the 8th/9th. This year we're later because of some bill passed regarding when schools in NC can start. It makes no sense to start just before a holiday though! Hope Sabrina is adjusting to High School.....I'm trying to get ready for middle school today....

Yep, Installed the Drummer and Race ECM. TPS reset was odd. After I performed, I'd go back in and the TPS would be between 6.2 - 6.5. Tried several times with the same result.

Procedure back off the idle adjustment till TPS is 0. Back off 1 or 2 more turns. Open and slam shut the Throttle 3 times. Reset TPS and set to 5.1. Heat up the engine to operating temperature and set idle to 1050.

Every time after setting idle the TPS would be at 6.2 - 6.5.

Bike runs fine. I'll give the new ECM some time to learn and check it again.

Another odd thing is after putting on the Race ECM, VDST software would not connect while the bike was running. This worked with the stock ECM. Still connects fine with the ignition on but engine off, just will not connect while running. So had to check idle RPM off the tach.

Any thoughts?

I have yet to see the VDST live so I can't help you.

There's a few different threads on here about it's usage -- Al Lighton has answered a bunch of questions in regards VDST Q&A. I, also, believe he wrote a 'How to' based around the software. Use the Google search and you'll find it.

Let me know how that goes,

Spectrum - Adjusting the idle changes the throttle position. I suspect the change you see reflects that.

thats really weird that my phone wasn't going off, although I guess it worked out better for JimN. It certainly went crazy as soon as JimN called. Maybe next time you'll just have to make sure hes planning on going and make him in charge of the wake up phone call

(I don't think I had any missed calls either..)

JInance - Yes, but it should end up between 5.2-5.6. I talked to Kevin today over at KDFAB and he said I should be ok, but gave some things to try.

Well I think I've found the problem to my TPS reset oddities.

Talked to Kevin today and he asked if I had dropped the cables. I hadn't, but got me think. I inspected the cables when I got home and found something rattling in one of the cable heads. Took it apart and there was a spare screw floating around in there (great quality control). Removed the screw hooked the ECM backup to the laptop and low and behold I can now connect with the engine running. My guess is the screw was not creating a short, but just enough interference to hinder data transmission. The ECM is transmitting a whole lot more data with the engine running so may have been too much interference under that heavy of a load to maintain the connection. Also the TPS reading was 6.0 (much closer). I'm guessing the interference was also impacting the accuracy of the data even under low load when the engine was off. I'll try resetting the TPS tomorrow.

Wes - I do have expereince and yes you should look in the service manual. Mark showed me how to do this a couple weeks ago. Still it's nice to have read the manual.

What seems to be the problem with your clutch?

The big problem is the cable pulled out of the clutch lever. However, for a couple days now the gears have been feeling a little harder to change. So, I'm not sure if the clutch lever may have broken due to the extra resistance, or if the extra resistance was coming from the clutch level close to failing.

Wes - I'm thinking we need to replace the clutch cable then. Or else the lever. Does the cable that pulled out of the lever still have a round metal slug on the end?

There are 3 adjustments that I know of which will affect shifting:

1 - Clutch cable adjustment. This looks easy, I've watched Mark do it.

2 - Clutch ball ramp adjustment. This is easy on Blast (once you get the foot peg bracket off. ) I've done it with instruction from Mark. It's probably the same on an XB.

3 - Primary chain adjustment. I've never done it but it's not hard. To do it by the book you need an inch-pound torque wrench. For the Blast, there is an internet method which does not require a torque wrench. I've no idea if it works on XBs or not.

There is also oil in the transmission case which needs to be changed every 5k miles. As long as we have the inspection cover off to adjust the ball ramp, we might as well do that to.

Looks like you will need:

1 - Either a clutch cable or a clutch lever.
2 - 1 quart of oil (I use Mobil 1 15W-50 car oil)
3 - 1 inspection cover gasket
