Hi, quick Update on Aaron. He is home, has to wear a clamshell brace when he is not laying down. He is doing amazingly well, considering he just had 10 units of blood last week. I would love to go riding but Sheri needs the help for at least this weekend and now I have to make a couple of trips to greensboro, as my Stepfather died this morning. I would ride the bike but I will probably have my little girl, so I will be in the cage. Larry

Fixed mine, it was the ignition key fuse box. U4, what kind of route are you taking up there? Does it go through gboro? If you guys take back roads and I shoot up 40, I could meet you there if you go through it.

Bryan,

I have no plan -- which is the norm. Which way are you going? I specialize in the 'I have no destination' type of events : )

I think that could be the C3 Slogan! Those sometimes are the best rides.

Bryan, I'm in. I can roll out of here early in the AM and I figure we've 4 basic options -- N, S, E, or W. You choose and we'll meet somewhere.

PM me and I'll send you email/cell info.

Jim, I'm not sure when you're planning to leave tomorrow but just give me a call. My phone number is a couple posts up. If I can wake up I'll try and head you off somewhere, and if not I'll just go back to sleep, no harm done. Thanks!

Wes

PS I will check here for maybe another hour or so, after that I probably won't check again tonight

edit: my phone number is one of the last in the archives now, I'm not going to repost it because I don't want it all over the boards or anything

Wes sorry we missed you today. Jim tried to call you several times. It was a beautiful day for a ride and we had a great time.

Jim & Greg, thanks for taking care of me today. It was a great first experience with mountain roads. I had a lot of fun and other than being tired I'm ready to go again. I got caught up that one time following you guys and didn't realize the twisties were getting more technical and you guys were gradually picking up the pace. That transition from an up hill left hander to a down hill right hander took me by surprise. All in all was a great learning experience and I really enjoyed it.

Let’s do it again real soon!

After riding with Wes & Chris this morning, Rebecca and I went to Southern Pines. We walked around main street and chose a place to eat. They handed me a menu and nothing was more than $7.50. Wow, I need to get out of Raleigh more often.

Then we went to the Cabin Branch Tack shop to meet Mike's Wife. Since she had never seen either of us, our plan was to pretend like we had come into the shop searching out leather implements to sate our kinky fantasies. We both chickened out and just introduced ourselves as Mike's friends.

Afterward, we drove the 300 feet over to Mikes house to say hello. We ended up sitting on the front porch talking for a couple hours. I also got to meet his daughter, Rebecca, and see his son Michael again. We had a great time.

Well not sure exactly, I was just following and not paying much attention. Here's the days route as best I can recollect. I meet Gary at I77 and 73. We then drove down to Mt Pleasant where we meet up with Jim. We headed north from there till we ran into 421. Took 421 to the BRP. There was a section that was closed so we got off for a while and or worked our way to 121. Not sure where we got off 121 but ended up in Morganton where we stopped and grabbed a bit to eat. We then headed east on I40 to Hickory. From there, 321 back to 73 which was on the way home for all three of us. I'm sure there's pieces I missed our got wrong, Jim & Gary will have to chime in for an accurate account.

Jim took a bunch of pictures along the way and some video as we traversed the viaduct. Hopefully he’ll post these later.

All total I think we covered about 300+ miles. I was so tired coming back, I suddenly forgot how to shift. Keeped missing 1 to 2 at lights and double down shifting going into turns.

Jim N,

Spectrum's got the route pretty close : ) 73 to Mt. Pleasant and we then kind of 'wandered' to Salisbury using Jim's local knowledge and dead reckoning. NC 70 to I-77 to 421 to BRP to 221 to 181 to 40 to 321 to 150 to 73.

I was wanting Jim to see some good routes for the upcoming gathering so we hit two of my favorites, 221 (smothered in traffic due to BRP closure -- and it sucked,) and 181 (nearly no traffic and we was able to run it at a rather brisk pace ;) ) 181's a must ride if you're anywhere near it.

I ran out of time at the bottom of 181, Morganton, and had to start heading back southeast before my kitchen pass expired (I had to meet Boog at the gym and check on my mom.) We also ran by Kevin Drum's place but he wasn't there -- just about forgot about that.

Shredded some Dunslops today, everybody had fun, snuck in a big honking Hardee's hamburger, everyone's back home to talk about it. All in all it was a good day. Need you and Carlos to come over this way and we'll do further mapping. Later,

G2

PS 2 Glitch -- Ginger Cake looked good as we sailed by ;)

Wheweee! After I got off the phone with Mike, my neighbor stopped by and told they were having a get together, so off I went. Needless to say, it is taking me much longer to type this than it should!

Had a great ride today. After we all met at Mt. Pleasent, it was my job to get us north and west of I-77. Didn't quite work out that way.Well after going around our A..... well you know the rest, we decided to high tail it to the super slab and make up some time, that we did. 181 is byfar one of the most enjoyable runs I have done to date. Clean, clear, wide, and TWIST-ED. I could have ran back and forth on that road all day long.

Bryan- I didn't realize that this was your first mountain trip. You did great! cept for that one curve, shhhh.

Had dang good time riding with ya'll today, thanks for showing us around Greg. 181 will be added to my favorites!

XB9ser and Wes12185- Called both of you on many times.
XB9ser-when your phone messaging comes on it ask for a mailbox number, I entered your phone #, the last four digits of your #, but still couldn't get to leave you a message.
Sorry we could get together on this one.

Looks like everyone has had a fun weekend. Unfortunately for Carlos, his only riding was on a Cub Cadet. Then while running the push mower, he got attacked by Yellow Jackets.

Spectrum - if you want more mountain riding, check out the Boone adventure in October. We still have room in the cabin and it will be a fun and pretty cheap weekend.

Jim, We can do that! In fact we do that about once a month : ) We'll take a cooler full of Gatorade/Pepsi/Water (if we can get Glitch up here in God's Country we'll put some Coke in it) and we plant the cooler at the top, near the BRP, strip off any unnecessary items, and rail 181 up and down.

FYI,,,It's a lot of fun going either direction, but going up it's even better -- mostly two lanes and always a place to pass. I can't do it this Saturday, but I think I can on the next Saturday : )
