Ditto on Blublak's statement. My bike has been in the shop for almost 2 weeks waiting for a parts estimate (Frederick). Prep for Sturgis is keeping them very busy. They can't get to it until the 11th.

I'll pick up my bike and repair it myself by then. The parts I ordered from DaveS came in yesterday

While we're talking about parts, my throttle grip felt a bit funny. I looked at it (along with the rest of my right side), and it looks like someone clipped it while it was in a parking lot (or one of the kids in my neighborhood tipped it over when I wasn't home), and the end is almost torn off. Any suggestions for new grips? I don't think these are the stock ones, they kind of have a serpentine pattern across them.

And another thing. Boy, while I really enjoy by xb9r, I've been having issues with the used vehicles I've bought lately. I've noticed lately when I start out, and occasionally later on, that my bike "burps". kinda hard to describe, but you go along, and all of a sudden it seems like my engine pauses for a split second, then continues normally. Any ideas as to what that is?

Hmmmm.. The grips may be 'traction' or 'torque' grips, a Buell accessory part. Check the website and see if they are. If not, then it's time to go after market, in which case, just go out and find a set that you like and change them both.

On the 'Burp'.. Are you running stock exhaust? If not, you may need a TPS reset, also check your air filter and make sure it's clean and air is flowing (that could also throw off the system a little since air flow wouldn't be constant).

OK, that's a couple of thoughts.. let us know what you find..

Blublak,

Yeah, i checked the website, and they are the cheaper grips. for $17 a set, it's not too bad, though I looked around and found some gel grips for about the same price. I just hope they come with directions about how to install. (if not, any pointers?)

Yes, I am running a stock exhaust. I did check my air filter when I took my bike apart last week, and it looked pretty clean, but that was one of my thoughts originally. I guess I may just have to take it into the shop to have them look at it, since i still need to get my sidestand cutoff switch repaired (though as long as it is up, I'm not having any problems)

Thanks for the advice, for now. I'm sure I'll come up with something else this weekend.

All,

The Frederick Brag group's monthly meeting is tomorrow @ 3pm. Same location: Frederick HD-Buell.

It would be nice to get a decent turnout that way we can actually discuss group specific items. One for example is when/where and how often would you like to meet?

There are other more exciting topics I promise, the last was just for starters.

Summer is not good for me. I have an alumni function downtown Baltimore at 4. So if I make it to the meeting, i have to leave as soon as I get there. I will try to make a meeting after labor day weekend.

While I'd like to see more people make the meetings (anyone), your input is important.

I try to send emails to all the members with general topics. If you cannot attend (summer's tough) please reply with your comments on any of the topics or suggestions for items or issues you would like to see addressed at future meetings.

If you want to be included PM me so I can add you to our list.

I do not have a ride planned for tomorrow, I should be back on the rode next week for a test ride then the following week for the real deal (actually if I don't get off my a$$ and finish our bathroom I don't know when I'll ride next).

Please be safe out there, there's plenty of riding left this season.

Dan,

I'll put it on my schedule now that way nothing comes up. I'd like to come up and do a run with you before then.

Is anyone here interested in doing the Headless Horseman II? Sounds like fun.

Cool shots!

The ride after the meeting went well, considering we got involved in two big jams, crossing the Wilson Bridge and then on 95 south (I should have taken Rt 1 from Quantico to Stafford).

But Lars got to see some cool VA roads and Paul got to see some again so he could hit them a little harder this time.

Hopefully the rest of the trip back in MD went ok for you guys.

WERA National Series Heads To Summit Point This Coming Weekend
Aug 08, 2006

From a press release issued by WERA Motorcycle Road Racing:

WERA National Series Riders Expect Challenge from Local Talent at Summit Point

SUMMIT POINT, W. Va. – Summit Point is always a highlight of the WERA National Series, bringing out fast local talent to compete against the series regulars. This weekend’s race at the West Virginia track will be no exception, and WERA is expecting a big turnout for the event.

Riders will have a chance to practice on Friday before the expert-level Superstock and Formula 1 classes qualify, and the racing will begin on Saturday, August 12. The WERA/Bridgestone National Endurance Series race will get things started at 11:00 a.m., following a six-lap race for the WERA Minis- an annual Summit Point tradition.

The endurance race is slated for six hours. Vesrah Suzuki won at Summit Point last year, but it took them most of the day to build up a one-lap lead over Team Velocity Racing, who wound up with the Heavyweight Superstock victory. It was Vesrah’s first win in three races, but TVR’s fifth consecutive class win.

The tables have been turned this year, with Vesrah aiming for their third consecutive overall win, and TVR hoping for their first class win in four races.

The WERA/Michelin National Challenge Series competes Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with twelve sprint races comprising eighteen divisions. The usual fast guys in the National Challenge Series were dominant during last year’s event, including Tray Batey and Ben Thompson, but the Lightweight Twins and Formula 2 classes belonged entirely to local ace Dave Yaakov.

A number of classes are still close in championship points, but none more so than 750 Superstock. Vesrah Suzuki’s Lee Acree leads his teammate Mark Junge by just one point. Lightweight Twins points leader Jeff Walker, whose daughter was just born this week, has a narrow two-point lead over Chris Parrish.

Tickets for the weekend are $25, and Sunday only is just $15. Camping is also available for the weekend.

A complete schedule of round seven of the WERA National Challenge Series at Summit Point can be found online at www.wera.com. Directions to Summit Point can be found on the track’s website at www.summitpoint-raceway.com.

Paging Ras, Paging Ras....

Hmmm, looks like Liberty Buell/HD is having their open house the w/e of Sept 22-24, with Erik and the Thunderbolts playing. You can check out any updates on the Liberty thread in the sponsers area. I'm kickin' around the idea of a roadtrip to NJ that Sat, the 23rd.

The following w/e is the 2nd AMA race @ Mid Ohio (last race for the year). I'm planning on doing the Fri-Sun w/e there.

Dan,

I'm here...Supposed to change tires on both bikes today. I'm grounded until I get this done.

Outlook for VIR does not look good for me & K, my mother in-law was going to fly in to take care of the house, dog & kids. She canceled her flight plans in light of recent events (her return flight was scheduled for Sep. 11th-and she's a little freaked out).

So, I'm hoping to at least be back on the road for next weekend. Weather permitting, I'd like to take a ride up your way if you're not too busy.

Ras, this Sat, the 19th, should be good. I believe my wife is off work that day, so my kiddo's will be in good hands (she works revolving weekends).

CHALLENGE TO ALL FREDERICK BRAG MEMBERS!
Why leave Ras to ride on his own? We've got some nice twisty roads, some high speed backroads and a nice frozen custard shop to end the day in a kicked back kinda way!

The Reservoir Ride is a 90 mile round trip around 3 reservoirs, we can also stop in at the "World Famous" Horseshoe Curve, for any railroad buffs. 90% of the ride is 2 lane backroads, with just a few miles of 4 lane to get from one part to another.

This summer is quickly coming to an end, so here's a chance for a nice short road trip, I'm only 2 1/2 hours from Frederick.

I like the idea of starting early. Let me send an email to folks know. What's a good time for you? I was thinking about leaving Frederick between 8:30-9am. (I hope to have my new tires on by Sat - Ray's going to help me out)

Anytime is good for me.

************If you are interested I am having a party at the house (about 30 minutes w/G-burg) if you need a stop on the way back for some food we'd be more than happy to share the food and entertainment with whoever rides along and wants to stop. This is the reason I have to be back by 4PM. ******************

Ras, Noon-ish works here, that will give you some time to run the backroads here and not have to slab it, maybe RT 522 (just into PA off of Rt 70) to Mt. Union, then Rt 22 to Huntingdon, Rt 453 to Tyrone and I-99 to Bellwood (my hometown)?

Nice part about high noon is the sun shines strait down on the back roads between the overhanging trees, so you don't get a lot of "strobeing" from shadows to sun light.

Forcast here on Sat is for scattered showers, mid 70's, but that is 4 days out. weather men and baseball players are the only ones who can be right 30% of the time and still keep their job....

Ras, I'm up for the ride on Sat. I don't know who else might be going, but if you want to come up 15 earlier in the morning, We can meet on the west side of Gettysburg at the Little Italy restaurant just before you get to the blinking light in Cashtown. From here it's about 1.5 maybe 1.75 hours to Altoona. We can meet on the west side of Gettysburg at the Little Italy restaurant just before you get to the blinking light in Cashtown on 30. Give me a call when you get a chance. Anyone else from up this way can meet us there or we can stop and pick up others along the way.
