We roll into Paint Bank General Store and would you believe the bike that grabs this guys attention: Suzuki Katana 600! Dayglo yellow with a hideous passenger seat hump with even worse Georgia Tech logo spray painted on it. There was a nice R1 with Micron titanium high mount pipe right next to it and the tortluvr doesn't even notice it. I think he's just jealous the yellow firebolt didn't garner the attention he was fishin. The dude that was admiring the Line-x could only see the flyscreen of the lightning. The airbox cover was completely obstructed by the jacket laid across it!
I do have a bad habit of sitting idly by while others are addressing my choice ride. At least I'm not taking pictures of peoples bikes without asking permission! We'll have to go on another beautiful ride and I guess I'll park the Lightning by the port-o-let.
I think the Stryper paint might be a bit much but to each his own. Like I tole ya; as long as you're happy brutha. NUTS is heading off to work.

Oh it got the attention I wanted. Notice those three chickies were hovering closest to my ride. They knew I had no problem embracing my soft side. Shame they were all butt ugly LOL!
You are more than welcome to the attention from older, obviously gay (even you commented on it) bikers. Prolly wanted to have his picture taken standing beside your "Village People" looking bike, whilst singing YMCA.

Tank,
Where you been hiding these past few days? You know you dig them 80's bands too. I wouldn't be surprised to see you show up with a Depeche' Mode emblem on your Lightning BWAHAHAHAHA!!

One last thing Mr. Vega. You noticed the gay biker quickly cruised over to my ride and proclaimed for the world to hear that it was voted the best handling bike of all times! Now granted the magazine was talking about the 12 but its' little brother has to rank number 2. I don't know where the Lightning ended up in that list of bikes but I'm almost positive it couldn't have come close to my exquisite ride. Then again...... Maybe they had a pocketbike category that yours may have scored well in (Torts is on a roll ladies and gentlemen).

You all missed a good ride. We did Shady valley on Sunday and the Dragon on Monday. Had to take a little time to cool off in the TN mountains yesterday:

With such a short wheelbase there is no need for the rider to lean the bike into turns at such a dramatic angle. Only the most experienced riders like me and Valentino Rossi understand this .
I believe that the "Indian" the other day who pulled up at the Paint Bank store was looking to shoot you with his "arrow" . (I'm on a roll, somebody help me!!).

Jim,
Glad ya'll had a safe and fun trip. Maybe one day in the near future we can all hook up for a ride.

So, lets see if I got this straight...(since Jackie is on such a good roll)

Boy George over here is proud of the ugly chicks drooling on his bike(clean that off good, you might catch something)...
...and his compadre would be proud to become the next member of the Village People.

What the hell kind of trip did I get roped into anyway??

Nuts, so how many of your crew will be staying at my house? I'll contact the other dude and let him know more space is available, and if you know of anyone that wants to come, let em' know.

Tank, It appears zero will be invading your establishment; except for some good natured pub sport. If you figure how much available space you have we can put a post up on the quick board. BTW are you going to be at VIR? I'd sure like to get that house of yours teeming with renters. Let me know if I can help. NUTS

Tank,
Give me a price quote on lodging for Sunday through Thursday (keep in mind I am only charging you 100 bucks for the TPS reset) and perhaps I can work something out. With my propensity to stay up all night watching TV and to have the air conditioner set to frozen, I may get booted from the main house in short order.

I'd rather have ugly chicks drooling over my "best ever" handling bike than some ugly gay dude fondling my pocketbike with visions of a liason dancing around in his head. Nuts didn't help the situation any by dancing around in his red boots while listening to Barry Manilows' Greatest Hits on his new IPOD .

Tank is that $65.00 a night? If so I am afraid I won't be able to swing it (even though that is a very generous offer). If that is for the whole trip then I'll up it to $100.00 plus the TPS reset to make it more fair for you (even then it still isn't enough but that is about all I can scrounge).
Don't feel obligated if you have other interested parties willing to lessen your burden by paying more than I can. I'm sure I am still welcome over at the other crib. His dad is a new friend of mine as I haven't had time to pi$$ him off yet unlike our good friend Jason. Actually his pops is about as nice as they come. None of that mean spiritedness that Nuts has . Meet him once and it feels like you have known him for years.

Lovethemtorts - Perhaps it would work out better if I would actually plan ahead and invite you all more than 24 hours in advance?

To that end, the Carolina Corner Carvers are planning a trip to Boone, NC in October. If anyone would like to ride down, it would be fun to meet you. We may have some room in the cabin left if you're interested in staying down there. If you're interested in that you can post to the thread above. Kristi is coordinating lodging.

Just got a chance to look at the map and check out the book I ordered.

WE ARE GONNA' HAVE A KILLER TIME!
If I had known about some of the "other roads" last year, I might still be there.

So, tell a stranger of this road, local to you, which the Greatest Woodsman fears....

Jim,
Man I would love to hook up with you guys for a bit o' riding but our little crew (and honorary member Tank) are heading to the Dragon on Sept. 10th. After 5 days there I come home and turn around to go to Myrtle Beach for another week. My ole' lady would flip her gourd if I tried to throw another trip on top of that.
Don't stop inviting us though. Eventually everything will fall into place for a group ride.

Tank,
Just had to use the word KILLER didn't ya'? Are you trying to put a jinx on us? Actually I think we will all act like we have some sense since the Gixxer riders dropped out.
Sounds like you may be the official tour guide for the trip. Study up real well so you can point out all the interesting scenery.
I believe tomorrow I am going to drop off the plastics for the Line X treatment. I'm tired of Nuts getting all the attention just because he has it on his. On todays' ride we stopped at a little store and the dude held the door open for Jason while asking him all about his bike. Didn't say a word to me just let the dor slam in my face. I FEEL SO DEJECTED!!
A big thumbs up to Nuts for actually answering the guys questions instead of ignoring him. After saying I stole his thunder the other day I didn't dare say a word other than "Where is the bathroom?".
We got lucky on the local mountain and was able to avoid the traffic. I was feeling pretty confident for some reason and ripped it up the first two times. Heading home I got a bit nervous worrying about deer jumping out. I did manage to make the ole' chickenstrips creep closer to the edge of the tire.

Where are you guys placing your VA Inspection stickers. I just got my bike back from Appleton WI but I don't see any good place to mount the inspection sticker plate. The only good place I see is on the fork under the top triple tree. Thanks

Cadhopper - My NC inspection stickers go on the forks. I think mine is actuall between a set of clamps on the Uly. On the Blast it's right under the triple tee.

Cadhopper,
I just have mine in a baggy under the passenger seat along with my registration. If I get pulled the officer will either
A - see I have it along with evrything else and let me off with a warning.
B - Give me a ticket for not displaying it.
Usually around here sticker inspections are secondary to being pulled over for something more serious or if you are unlucky enough to roll up on a checkpoint.
How far do you live from Roanoke?

Nuts', I still haven't figured out how you scrubbed your tires all the way to the edge of the rims? You are indeed at one with the bike .

They must have heard about the unruly pack of wild Buells and chickened out.

...scrubbed your tires all the way to the edge of the rims?

Must have had a flat.

Cadhopper,
My sticker is on the left fork between the trees as well. The inspection station put it there.

Woops! I was thinking about the city sticker. My inspection sticker is stuck to a little metal plate mounted off of the rear brake caliper. Look at my profile picture and you can see it.

Tank,
It ain't long now brutha'! Are you holding it together or is the excitement just too much to handle? My excitement level has peaked and with Squirrel season opening Sept. 2nd I now have other thing to keep me from thinking about the trip 24/7.

Nuts,
Took the pieces in for the Line X today. Dude quoted me $40-$50 for the airbox and passenger seat cover. I went with the "bra" design as we discussed but opted to have the whole pillion coated since I was thinking about getting a black one anyway. Kills two birds with one stone.
I did tell the guy I would GLADLY pay additional to make sure the airbox design is symetrical.
We'll see tomorrow! If it turns out well I am going to get the front fender done. Instead of getting the supports done I think I am going to reverse that and get the fender itself covered and leave the supports yellow. Envision it if you will.
Black fender (with yellow on the sides), black windscreen (with yellow running up the sides of the fairing), black on a large percentage of the airbox and finally black pillion cover. Kinda keeps all the black running down the middle of the bike which I personally think will balance the bike out better.

The more I look at the map/book/mapquest, the better time I think we'll have. Me, excited? That would be an understatement!

Supposedly, there is a road in TN that rivals the dragon, with nearly no traffic! I'll have to see it to believe it, but that shouldn't be a problem. Looks like a good half day trip there and back, which includes the Cherohala Skyway both ways.(the Skyway starts less than a mile from the house)

Jackie, it sounds like it won't be long before you have a line-x Buell as well! Buddy you were riding quite well yesterday, sorry I was in such a funk. I'm usually quite confused for a while after I awake in the evenings and yesterday was no exception. I didn't feel entirely confident on the bike but it's good to see you rippin around.

Tank, I have had to find things other than the Dragon to occupy my thoughts because man I was going NUTS. It sure has helped me to balance the riding stuff with some other interests. Fishin, shootin, inkin, ridin. All's well with the world. Those Dave Chappell video's go down real smooth too!CHARLIE MURPHY.

Headline:
Bueller starts fire.

Great ideas usually turn out for the best, but on this night, this was not to be the case.

Cooking short ribs on the grill usually makes for a fun night, good conversation, and great dinner. The ribs were marinated in some killer A1 garlic and herb sauce for just long enough. Time for some slow-n-low on the grill. MMMM, Mmmm, bitch.

The ribs are done. Pops gets the first plate, and the larger ribs are not done enough, so back to the still lit grill. I go back inside and enjoy one of the smaller, perfectly prepared morsles.

Less than 5 minutes later, I go to check the larger portions, re-placed on the grill. Go outside, half the grill is spewing flames that would make a suicide bomber think twice. Ribs are charred pretty good on the outside, but the inside is just right.(pops cut the char off and ate one, so did I).

It burned for 20 minutes with the gas turned off. So much for my "seasoned" grill.

NOTE: No grills, people, personal property, animals, or motorcycles were seriously injured during this event.

Hope everyone had a better night than me(burp...mmm, barbecue)

Glad everyone made it through that ordeal unscathed! Kinda disappointed in you though for making your Pops eat burnt ribs. He deserves better than that for putting up with your craziness!
Better get that lust for BBQ out of your system or give me fair warning unless you want to give me CPR while on our trip. You seem like a good dude and all but lets' try to avoid that if possible .

Nuts,
Thanks for the kind words. I still ain't fooling myself into believing that I can keep up with you and Charlie. Speaking of which, where is our friend and mentor at? Hasn't visited our little corner of BWB in several days. I hope we didn't run him off with our stupidity!

Good dude, yes I would give you the shirt off my back.
CPR, not likely, but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express... But really, I know enough to save a life.(what does Nuts do for a living??)

Dude, are you really that sensitive to say, BBQ sauce, or is it the vinegar/spices? Help me here, I need to know what you cannot be around. It's easy to work around if I know in advance. I'd rather not call "the white bus".
