Hello all...

Just wanted to give a few updates. First, there is a ride this Sunday
to Black Lake leaving from SFHD/B at 0930 on Sunday July 30th. It's
been a while since we've had a good turnout for rides, so we look
forward to seeing as many riders as possible.

And don't forget that we have our BRAG National Event coming up in
September! The BRAG Wicked Twisty tour is coming to Santa Fe
September 29 thru October 1. We'll have three days of awesome rides
planned and look forward to seeing as many locals and out of state
BRAG members as possible. You can get your details here:
http://www.santafebrag.com/

Look forward to seeing you all on the road!
CJ Rodden

It's that route from Angel Fire to Mora that we've done a thousand times. I would recommend doing it backwards, but by the time you'd get up there, you'd be hard pressed to get a good lunch stop. And we all know how we like to eat.

We do have options. We can go the High Road or the Low Road to Taos then go directly to Angel Fire. There are good lunch options there. Then we can go to Mora and thru Sipapu and back.

OR

We can go the High Road and thru Sipapu to Mora and try to lunch there? Or hold out until Angel Fire and still lunch there. THen thru Taos and back via the Low Road? Or back on the high road? THere are myriad possibilities based on everyone's preference, endurance, etc.

Hey Bart, I finally got out last weekend, and I'm that I didn't do anything too scary this time. So I'm planning on being there tomorrow. It looks like Sunday would be a great day! As long as you have good rain gear.

So CJ, is being back at work killin' ya?

Wow, looking at those routes, why start so late? That's alot of riding for one day, unless you enjoy coming home late.
Is there an alternate route in case of rain?

I'm all for leaving much earlier.

I'm hauling horses to a schooling show for some friends at 6am so I could be ready to leave at 7:30.

Hey All,
So i'm thinking about buying a bike today, and in all likely-hood it will be bought by the time most of you read this. I figured i'd run this past you guys since i live here and you'll most likely be the ones i come running too if something goes horribly wrong.

This is it: http://pics.livejournal.com/cybergeak/gallery/0000ka8s
Its an '01 lightning, white with the metallic blue frame.

The guy selling it doesn't know a whole lot about it, he only put 150 miles on since last Nov. Bought it from his father-in-law i guess. I took it out for a ride yesterday, it was awesome.

What i was able to figure out there and by looking at the pictures i took was:
-Probably the race exhaust (not the stock one anyhow)
-has the race ecm
-is missing the rear fender
-The rear tire probably has half its tread still

It has 6000 miles on it and hes askin 4500.

He does have the manuals, he doesn't have the stock ecm or exhaust. There isn't a tool kit, but i don't know if the '01s came with one.

I'll check back here by 1:30 before i go up and buy it, so does anyone have any advice? I don't think what he's asking is unreasonable but part of me wants to haggle him down a little just for the sake of haggling.

If this does go down i'll try to make it out for tomorrows ride.

thanks,
Alex

Wow! Very nice! A White Lightning with a Nuclear Blue frame.

You can usually find the rear hugger on eBay. I look forward to seeing you on it!

Kim, working isn't killing me, but it is annoying me. It's not anywhere close to what I want or need, but it's better than nothing. My car got hit by a stray tire the other day. It was the weirdest thing. A guy was driving his '72 GMC Suburban (super duper 4x4) when the front wheel came off. Naturally, it rolled about a third of a mile through a gauntlet of obstacles when it finally struck my car HARD! Shattered the passenger window and crushing the door. Luckily, it was parked and not while I was driving. Guess I'll be riding more now!

Anyway, rain gear tomorrow!

CJ, Dude! That bites! But, it was a good thing that you weren't driving it at the time. Or, maybe if you had, it wouldn't have happened.

I've had way too much time to think about such things.......

The Blast is history, i sold it a couple of weeks ago to a guy i work with. He says he likes it a lot.

I think i broke some sort of record for miles put on by a single owner. It always seems like people out grow their blasts after 500 miles and stop riding it. I didn't hit that point until 2500.

Greetings from (another) Albuquerque Ulysses owner...I just noticed the regional forums on BadWeb and though I'd say "hi"!

I bought my Uly on 10/1/05 from Chick himself just before he sold; have 15.3K miles on it now. What a great bike!

I've lived in ABQ for almost 30 years, work as Prof of Mechanical Engineering at UNM (came in 1/77 for that job). I've got four boys (two still at home) and a VERY understanding wife ("Deadbeat Annie").

After years of riding with various small groups, I'm a little leery of riding w/people I don't know (ego problems, etc), but I think I'll register for the BRAG ride this fall.

Anyway, there seems to be an active little group here; look forward to meeting some of y'all. (no, I'm not from TX...a rural SoCal transplant all the way).

Greg- Welcome Aboard!

We had a great ride yesterday, although shorter than normal. We opted out of the Black Lake ride due to weather and folks with early curfews, like me! We went up through White Rock to NM4 and then down through the Valles Caldera and Jemez Springs. Nice Ride. I left the group at Rio Rancho, but the rest went back to SF via NM14.

Five bikes plus two passengers. Fun little group and a nice ride. Weather was kind to us and we didn't get wet.

Kim: I have an interview tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed!

CJ, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya. Good Luck!

Bart, I have pictures, I just haven't had time to post them yet. I'll try to do that tonight. I ended up taking my bike to the dealership at the end of the ride. It is leaking huge amounts of oil out the head of the rear cylinder. I have found puddles of oil under it the last two times that I had it out. They don't think they are going to get around to fixing it until the 10th of August. No riding for me for awhile, I'm not a happy camper. I really wanted to ride to Pagosa this weekend. Maybe I'll go hiking instead.

OK, since Bart is badgering me to get photos, here goes...

Do y'all remember way back when we had a ride up to Taos attended by Kim, Bill, Warren and me? Well, I took photos that day and here are some:

Here is a group shot with the weather in the background:

4 some

And here is our weak attempt at an action shot to possibly be put on the Wicked Twisty site. It's not very exciting, but Kim is riding well:

Kim rides again!

On another date, I think it was after that ride, I rode up to Santa Fe mid-week via NM4. I was to meet Murrae and hopefully others to ride. On the way up, I stopped and took more photos, again possibly for the Wicked Twisty site to advertise NM Buelling.

Here is a shot of my Buell among the red clay and rocks of the Jemez Pueblo:

Red Rocks!

Later, I passed thru Jemez Springs to see the actual springs in the soda dam:

Soda Dam

Here is where my prose really tried to take off. I found that my camera had a black and white feature and so I started to see myself as a modern day Ansel Adams:

soda black and white

Later, Ansel rode his Buell to Battleship Rock:

Battleship Rock

Here, I was trying to show the spectacular scenery of the Jemez valley as well as some of the cool curves we enjoy here:

Scenic Curves

Then, upon reaching the Valles Caldera, I found my Firebolt an irresistible subject for my photographic muse:

Firebolt in Repose

That was the end of photographs that day. Once I hooked up with Murrae, we rode down 14 and the pace was such that we didn't take time for photos. Nobody's fault, just the pace.

So, I think that was the last time I rode before yesterday. Sucks. Anywho, yesterday we again did NM4, but in reverse and I only took a couple of photos. First, we have the squirrel's eye view of the group:

Squirrel's eye view

Then, the group shot, not exactly posed:

the group

As mentioned in another post, there were five bikes including Chris' Yamaha. He works at LANL with Kim. And we also had Matt & Holly on an XB12R and Luis & Natalie (not his girlfriend, apparently) on an XB12S. This is in addition to Kim and myself.

And for the grand finale, here is what a HUGE tire will do to a car after traveling 400 yards down hill through numerous obstacles:

OUCH!

See yas.

Dr Greg, I read you trip log to Tampa. Sounded like a great trip. I use to live in Pensacola, Fl, along 98 were you traveled.

Is anyone doing the Poker run in Edgewood?

Are Poker runs not for Buellers?

The shifter on my new X-1 lost the big bolt that holds it into place. Came out on my second ride. I limped to the dealer and they found me a bolt, washer and some lock tight. New parts are on their way, but does anyone have a link to some electronic copies of service manuals, or the cool parts catalogs they have at the dealer? It would be nice to know what i could use for substitute parts in the future.

Here is some of the pictures for you!
Here is a group shot in the Valle

Here is the group at the intersection of 4 and 502 just before we headed up.

I've got my bike back, it wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be.

Who was going to head up to Pagosa this weekend? I don't know if I'm going, I was thinking about doing Black Lake.

Hey guys and gals,
First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Robert and I LOVE my Buell! Now that that's out of the way:
I will admit that I am scairt of the rain 'cause I have not experienced it yet as I consider myself a newbee and have not been down yet. This is my first bike and I LOVE IT!! but I am looking to ride with some others that are into their Buells. I am kind of tired of my "Harley buddies" that only ride to the bars to get wasted and then the challenge is to get home in one piece. I would rather ride with some folks that wear their gear and have a spirited ride! I am located in Santa Fe and would like to ride with you all. When is the next ride? I would love to do the Wicked twisties ride, but I can"t afford it right now.
Thanks,
Rob

Hey Brewtus,Welcome!!

We have rides planned for just about every sunday. So just show up at the SF harley shop on at 9 on sunday.

I'm not sure what CJ was thinking about a ride for this weekend. It kinda sounds like he wants to call the game due to rain.

I've actually got plans to meet some friends in Durango. Guess my rain gear is going to get a good workout. Leaving here in a few and coming back tomorrow.

Hey Brewtus,
Welcome to the madness, LOL
Like Kim said, just hangout at the shop around 9AM most Sundays and you'll find a few Buellers ready to ride. : )

CJ,
I've got a brand new Scorpion Sync rear tire sitting here in my closet, do you need both front and rear?

JJ,
Did you get the ignition switch squared away?

I won't be riding up tomorrow, I just got back from Roswell. OH NO ALIENS !!!! Had to do a service call down there. It's pouring rain bigtime between Edgewood and Moriarty. Mona and I will probably ride out to the Ponderosa tomorrow afternoon for lunch if anyone is interested...
