Yep, rode the horse, the bicycle, gonna go for a run with the wife, and get ready to split.

Twig says " meet at the McDonalds on Guilford College Rd. off I-40, exit 213 I think, at 9:00 a.m.".

Does that work for everybody? U4 said he will do a day ride with Twig as we head NW then they will head back. MIke.

I worked on the Blast this morning. I decided the clutch needed to be adjusted. That is a really simple procedure. Except it requires removing the left foot peg support which is a horendous procedure. After removing 1 of the 3 nuts holding it on I decided to cut the grass to recover. Mark showed up about then, he thought I might be able to use some help. I was so glad to see him.

Carlos called and the guys have had a great day riding. I'm sure they are all dog tired and ready to hit the sack.

Twig - Carlos said your bike looks too cool with the new Cherry Bomb pieces. Post pictures!!! I love that look, especially with the red on the wheels.

Good Morning Badweb!!!!! Perhaps you've seen the movie?

Yesterday was fun. We wandered around the NC/VA border, taking detours off of 58. Once we got to the western part of the state, 58 got wicked twisty. I was too tired to push it, so I went fairly slow and brought up the rear. We got to Damascus and took 133 down to Shady Valley. We stopped at the store, and there was another Buell. And Mike knew the guy riding it. Same fellow he met on his camping trip.

We left the store and headed down 421. I found it more enjoyable than 58. It seemed like fewer of the corners were blind. When I got to the bottom everyone was off their bikes waiting for me.

U4euh & Twig split left us at Mountain City and took 421 home. M2nc, Rubberdown, and myself headed over to Asheville. It was a pretty ride down 321. We got to Johnson City right as it got dark, and took 26 to Moms. 26 is also a beautiful ride, but we didn't get to see to much of it last night.

Traveling with Rubberdown is an interesting lesson in how far my social skills have to come. The waitress at lunch brought him some free baked apples. And when we stopped at a light in Johnson City, this chick in a nice car rolls down her window to ask him why he is in town. All this while he complains that girls don't like him.

Hi everyone, Just an update from Duke Medical center. My son had surgery yesterday. He lost about 3 times his normal volume of blood, and had to have it replaced. He has since had some heart rate and blood pressure problems and he has not been taken off the ventilator. The doctors are unsure of the cause and are running lots of tests to determine the cause. Just asking that everyone keeps him in your prayers as he can use them. Thanks and hope everyone is doing well and riding safe. Larry Ezzell

Will do Zxzer...

I am the fellow that Rubbberdown met at Deals Gap a few weeks back and the Guy you saw at the Country store in Shady Valley...they were having the "Rally in the Valley" and there were hundreds of bikes in and out of the store throughout the day.
I had seen 3 tubers, 2 blasts, a firebolt and a lightning there and was actually getting ready to leave when I saw a pack of bikes pulling in and noticed one of them was a Buell! and another one, and another one and another one...and then of course Rubberdown on his (whispering) beamer.
It was great meeting you guys and I enjoyed talking with you all...I will try to make it to the get together in Boone.

Brad - It was good meeting you. It's a small world isn't it? We had a good run down 421. 3 of the guys had told me they had done 421 before, so I thought it was going to be old hat for them all. When we got to the bottom they all told me they had never done that section of 421. I think they had a good time.

Let me get this all written down before I forget.

I woke up on Monday morning at my mom's place. Mike got up a little while later, and we went for a walk through the nature center next to her condo. Saw some peacocks, turtles, bears, coyotes, and assorted other animals. Then Mike decided he wanted to job, and I decided I wasn't going to join him. I went back to the condo, and Carlos and my Mom were up. After Mike got back, we went into Asheville and had a great breakfast.

We left Asheville a bit before noon, heading in the direction of the dragon. It's only 100 miles to the dragon, but we were taking the scenic route, most of which was parkway. At one point on the parkway we came upon 3 Harleys crusing at a (too) leisurly pace. Mike eventually pulls out and flys by all of then. A few minutes later Carlos does the same thing. This apparently pissed them off, because the lead guy guns it and decides to catch him. Carlos gives him the "bring it" gesture and takes off. They all sped up to about 60, so I didn't have to worry about passing them myself. Eventually they pulled off at an overlook. No, they never caught Carlos.

Eventually we made it into TN, headed for the back side of the dragon. We got stuck behind a slow truck who was intent on not letting us pass. Mike eventually got frustrated and pulled off. This was the point we noticed the creek. Off comes the gear and many of our clothes and into the water we go. It was a very hot day and the very cold water was excellent.

We got to the dragon about 7 that night. It was practically deserted. We pulled into an overlook and someone told us a tractor-trailer was comming through. He had run one guy on a goldwing off the road. A few minutes later the goldwing and the truck emerge from around the corner. The goldwing rider (who did go into the grass but didn't crash) was clearing bikes off the road. He apparently makes a living filming people running the dragon. The goldwing is full of video gear and he will follow you through and film you. Apparently he has no problems keeping up. From the sound of him running through there, I have no problems believing that.

I ran the dragon at a modest speed. Zeefoto and killboy were out, and I made several passes by the killboy guy. I pulled off at the 129/28 intersection where Carlos and Mike were waiting for me. We talked to a couple guys, including the goldwinger, for a few minutes and then rode 28 down to 74. 28 is a beautiful ride, technical but not insane.

At the bottom of 28, I had to decide if I was comming home with Carlos, or staying another night in Asheville. I eventually decided to come back with Carlos. We all had dinner in Asheville, at about 9 that evening, and then Carlos and I took off for home. I got home at 1:45 am, and it looks like Carlos made it by 3:30.

Xbrad9r - now that you've been exposed to C3, watch out! Our Boone trip is posted in our adventure folder. We'd love to have you join us. There's a couple of other people coming in for the day as well. I'm sure the traffic will pick up as time draws closer.

Mike, Mike, Jim & Jim - looks like you all had fun. I guess JimR & MikeS bailed before the C3 strip show started!!

I can't believe you guys didn't leave Asheville until 9 p.m. You guys are NUTS!

Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. I'm sure U4euh has some to post....hint, hint....

I am still resizing, story to follow.
Thanks for the great ride guys, I made it home about 12:30. Mike, no problem, we needed to get that fixed.
421 was KILLER. Mike W. and Carlos were smokin, but I think I held Carlos up, I was dog tired and didn't push it too hard, but just enough to have fun. Got a few good pictures. More to come

"Hi fellas" she says from her sixty-thousand dollar Mercedes.

It was a great ride. I took some pictures of my now flatter right foot peg, but the camera would not focus on the peg. US421 and the Dragon both left their mark on the Uly's foot peg. Or is that the other way around? It was a fun 1222 miles from 6pm Saturday to 3:15am Tuesday. We hit US-58, Snake Creek & BRP in VA, BRP, US-441, US421 (also in TN 'Snake')US-129 ('Dragon'), NC-28 what a great way to unwind from the Dragon.

Highlights from the Trip.

- Running the southern BRP and NC-28 without using the brakes, just a great series of sweepers that go on for miles and miles.

- Following Mike W. and Jim R. down the Snake. Jim, a great man once told me, Don't worry about holding another rider up, you are probably saving him from wiping out. I think that is what you told me once. You were setting a good pace to me.

- Following Mike W. down BRP and the Dragon.

- Swimming in the Mountain Stream

- Jan - Jim's mom and her fantastic Pizza and desert. I told Kristi about the Ice Cream and Amaretto, then we had to have some.

- 62.54mpg between the Snake and the Dragon

- Mike Stong's Cherry Bomb.

- Hot Chick in Hot Benz. "Hi Fellas"

- Hot Chick in not so hot Volvo. "You here for the motorcycle races"

- The guys on the Wide Glides that thought they actually could keep up with a Buell on the southern portion of BRP. (Jim, no they did not catch me. I did not give them the "Bring it" signal, I gave them the "Bye, Bye" signal, and for their own safety I showed them what a Uly can do when the rider hangs off it. In less than thirty seconds I was out of sight. I never saw them again after that. No wonder they finally turned off.)

- Getting off the bike after 18 hours.

- Mike's "Wow" comment in his sleep.

Hi, waiting to be allowed back in with Aaron and figured I would drop you an update. Instead of leaving the P-ICU yesterday morning as we expected, he will be in the P-ICU through at least friday. And as we are not allowed to stay in the room with him, the nurse failed to catch him pulling out his ventilator tube last night. He is breathing on his on and his vitals are better, but it is a very labored breathing. We are just hanging out with him although before we got kicked out he did talk to us although it was to tell us he was hurting.
Looks like you all had fun, and I hope you have a good weekend at VIR. I am not sure what Spike is doing as he got a new 4 wheeled toy this past weekend, but I am going to let him fill in the details. Larry

Hi guys, I just checked in this morning to see what you C3 guys had been up to. Looks like you had a great ride.

With regards to the yellow Goldwing, the guy goes by the handle "Yellow Wolf" and occasionally posts on advrider.com.

He's got a laptop with a DVD burner in the rear luggage box plus front AND rear cameras. He starts out following you filming you from behind and then passes you part way through the Dragon and films you from ahead for the remainder of the run. I understand he charges about $50 for a session, which really isn't bad.

He had just videoed a German couple on a BMW when we met him at the Dragon Overlook last month. You may have seen an on-line video sequence of a Goldwing burning up the curves going through through the Dragon- that's this guy. (Search advrider for "yellow wolf" posts and you can find a link to the video clips.) I talked to him briefly; he says he has about $2k in suspension upgrades on his Wing, he's a former racer, plus he REALLY knows the road. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't stand a chance at keeping up with him on my S3.

If I had it to do over again, I'd have gotten him to film us. Start out with me in front, him behind me, and Mike & Carlos behind him. A few miles into the Dragon, I'd pull over and Mike would pass (and at that point I'd be left in the dust). Sometime later Carlos would pass (have to start and end with a Buell.) It would have been cool.

I thought about it too, but I was carrying my wife on her first ride through the Dragon, and I figured I'd do something really dumb which would end up being memorialized for all time on DVD...
