how come you didn't post any pics here?

CJ has the pictures, I'm sure he'll post some soon. I had a blonde moment and I left my camera at home.

Anyone want to ride on Sat. instead of Sunday?

We are riding both days.
Going up around the Enchanted Circle,
taking our time and just enjoying life this weekend.
Last weekend was kind of hectic with my PGR commitments, and it will be nice to just relax, and putt around and enjoy the scenery with Mona. ;)

I got the pics but am a novice at posting them, particularly as their unedited form is a little large. I'll resize and post tomorrow.

Regarding the ride this weekend, I don't think I'm going to make it. However, it's looking a little better for the Colorado ride later in July. I'm saving up for it.

CJ,

You can use this link.
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=18942

to down load a program called Infanveiw. It lets you resize the pictures among other things so that you can post them.

Hope everyone has a safe 4th of July.

wow, will the rain ever stop?
I guess I'm going to test out my raingear tomorrow and hit Hwy 14 and the crest.

Kim,
How are you feeling now?
I hope your head feels better and the soreness is gone.
Are you doing any riding this weekend?

CJ,
You still out there?
Getting in any ride time between these storms?

Hey Bart,

I'm feeling better, my head is doing much better, still hurts now and then, But most of the aches and pains are gone, just my neck hurts. Yesterday was the first time I've been able to do much and not have to come back and lay down for 4 hours.

So I haven't really been on the bike, I wasn't able to put on a helmet until yesterday. I'm thinking about a short ride down to Madrid, maybe to the Ponderosa for lunch. I think the crest would be pushing it. Besides, I don't want any tickets right now.

Um... I'm here!! What's wrong with Kim?

I haven't gotten much riding in this week or last. I've been WORKING!! It's really more of a side job than a real job, but it's descent money and I can't turn it down. I'm also not going to be able to make the Colorado ride due to working. Sorry.

I might be able to get out next Sunday, but Friday and Saturday are locked in for work.

"What's wrong with Kim?"

There is to just too many things to list.

But, what Bart was referring to was that I rolled my car last weekend on the way to Denver. I had some women run me off the road just south of Colorado Springs. The car is totaled and I have a nice headache from it.

Headache aside, I actually feel pretty lucky to have walked away from it. Gotta luv those plastic cars, the body still looks good.

WOW! I am shocked and amazed. And glad you walked away from it. I assume you were unable to attend your interviews? Hopefully they grant some leeway there and give you another.

In terms of rat race, it's not quite up to par. But it does afford me a nice opportunity to catch up on my reading while being paid and I can continue my job search in earnest. Still seeking that REAL job.

:hi: everyone

I'm a new buell owner here in Abq. I've been trolling the boards for about a month now to learn about these bikes and finally found a used xb9s. I hope to see you folks around, maybe join in on a ride or two.

Is there a local forum you all hang-out on? I usually am at Racingsouthwest.com because of my car (03 srt4) but there's not much motorcycle chat going on there.

A little info:

Hey Lawrence,
welcome to our little corner of the world.
This IS the local forum we hang out on, lot's of bike talk here, and lots of rides scheduled all the way up to October I believe...
Look at this link to see all the scheduled rides and routes for the Santa Fe BRAG group:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=37&post=579321#POST57 9321

That's the closest you'll get, since "Thunderbird HD" isn't supporting any Buell activities this year, and probably won't next year.

I wanted to get some opinions. I was considering going on the Sipapu ride this Sunday. I was also considering taking my 12 year old son along for the ride. He has a helmet and jacket. He has also been on a few rides with me so far. Thanks for the input.

JJ,
The BRAG rides are usually pretty "spirited".
Meaning they keep up a good pace, and slower or cautious riders can get left behind.
If your taking your son, you may well do better to go on your own where you can ride at your own pace and enjoy the scenery.
Just my 2 cents.

If your new to the area, I suggest taking Hwy 14 through Tijeras, north on the east side of the mountains to Santa Fe and back.
Madrid is a sleepy little mining town and tourist attraction. You may want to stop and walk around with the little guy.
there are some great curves along the road, but nothing really technical.
for some very technical riding close to home, try Cedar Crest. It's a nice climb with lots of hairpins, and the view from the top is spectacular.

Thanks for the input, maybe I'll just go by myself then. We did a 200 miles last weekend together. We have done Hwy 14, and the Crest, several times. I was looking for a group of people to ride with. I was also looking for a "more Spirited" ride. Thanks again...

The "Rocky Roads" ride is coming up, the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of July.
Here is the Itinerary for the ride:

Santa Fe riders meet at shop and leave by 8am
Albq riders leave at 7am, (or so) and ride to Pojoaque

All groups meet in Pojoaque at the first light, and first gas station on the right.
Gas up, organize the group, load up on final supplies, kickstands up by 9am

Friday:
Santa Fe to TP
TP to TA/Chama
Chama to Pagosa Springs
Pagosa to Durango
Overnight in Durango
( I have not made any reservations, I’ll play it by ear as I go, taking what’s available)
260 miles 5.5 hrs

Saturday:
Durango to Dolores
Dolores to Ridgway
Ridgway to Montrose
Montrose to Crawford
Crawford to Gunnison
Gunnison to Lake city
Overnight in Lake city
(the alpine moose lodge is where we’ll be staying, the number is 1-800-650-1221.
I have not made a reservation yet, but plan on it.)
400 miles 7.5 hrs

Sunday:
Lake City to Pagosa Springs
Pagosa to Chama
Chama to TP
TP to Pojoaque
Group breaks up in Pojoaque, everyone heads their own way.
340 miles 6hrs

1st day will be relaxed, no technical stuff to speak of, and a short riding day to get us loosened up. J

2nd day will be very technical, on top of being a long day. But the evening stop is very relaxing, the food is excellent, and will set us up for some great riding home on Sunday morning.

3rd day will start off very technical, with many awesome views, I imagine we may stop often to take pictures etc, until we get to South fork. We can have breakfast there as there isn’t much in Lake City. Then the rest of the way is pretty relaxed and familiar to most of us.

"Sunday BRAG ride" I canceled my plans to go to Fire and Ice with some other friends, left my son at home, and headed out for a "Spirited" ride. I was stoked. I hung out at the Santa Fe Dealer from 9am till 945am. No one showed... Maybe next week. I had already loaded the ride plan into the GPS. So I went lone rider.
This was the first overlook spot.

Made it up there in no time. It was a nice twisty ride.

Gas prices are crazy up here. I saw some that were more pricey, but this is the only shot I have.

After a nice lunch at the lodge I got back on the road. Instead of heading back as the ride had suggested I had spoken with a guy at the HD Dealer and he suggested to go back through Mora and Las Vegas. It was Ok for the first part...but then...I-25...standard interstate
All and all I am glad I went. I look forward to actually meeting up with some of the local riders. Thanks for posting a great series of rides. I look forward to doing as many as I can.

Jason,

That is soooooo sad! I feel bad that no one else showed up. I wanted to go but I was told by the doc not to operate ANY machinery, until my headaches are gone.

I've probably been to more of the rides, then anyone, and I've been disappointed by the lack of turnout more then once. I think that I was the only rider at least twice. On the other hand, when a lot of people show up. The rides are really exciting, to say the least.

I'm hoping that by Friday, I'll be ready to ride. I'd really like to go up to CO again. That last ride is too beautiful to miss.

We're looking for some suggestions on where people want to stay Friday nite for the Rocky Roads ride this weekend. The choices are/were:
Mesa Verde $114 (no rooms)
Durango $80 & up
Cortez $50 & up
Staying in Cortez or Mesa Verde shortens the day's ride by 50 miles. We haven't made any reservations yet. Any preferences??? Please post them here.

I don't know if my head is up to three long days of riding. I might just meet you guys in Lake City. I know that Santa Fe to there isn't a hard ride, and I should be able to handle it. I'll have to play it by ear.

In Durango I love the Strater, mostly just cause they say it is haunted and it is right on the main street. That way you just have to park the bikes and walk up and down the street from bar to bar. but is on the more expensive side.

Kim, say it isn't so!!! Sorry to hear the head still hurts, I guess you can't just "walk away" from a rollover unscathed, eh?
We'll miss you the first day, but look forward to meeting you at Bruno's for dinner Saturday night.

JJ,
Sorry nobody showed up, but glad you had an enjoyable ride. There are other routes from Mora back to Espanola, that will keep you off the freeway. I look forward to meeting you on one of the rides.
Like Murrae stated above, the BRAG wicked twisties is coming up, a National event, make sure you get your reservations in!

A change for the Santa Fe riders that are going to attend Rocky Roads: Instead of meeting at the shop at 8:00 and leaving, just go directly to the Phillips 66 station on the RIGHT at the first light in Pojoaque as you come in from Santa Fe. The group will be leaving at 9:00.
If you need to confirm, my cell# is 505-699-7539.

wow, what a weekend!
I had a great time, Murrae and Mabel, it was great riding with you two again!

Well, here are my pics from the weekend. My ride actually started Thursday night when I headed up to Santa Fe.
here's a shot of the sunset from Hwy 14.

city-x sunset

We went up Hwy285 to Tierra Amarilla and then across the Brazos to Chama, and then on up to Pagosa Springs. After a short lunch stop we continued on towards Durango.
Murrae and Mabel planned on staying at Mesa Verde state park, while Mona and I stayed in Mancos. We separated before we got to Durango. Mona and I stopped at a riverside park in Bayfield, to relax a bit and let the rain storm blow by...

Mancos is a curious little town with some strange folks. We stayed at a little motel with some Gold wing riders, one was from Missouri and the other was from Maine. We were next to this B & B.

B & B

Which had some strange folks standing in front...

The gal seemed kind of scared of me. : (

Mr. Woody

The guy also seemed scairt of Mona, but he was sportin' a woody... he he

The next morning we met up at the gas station in Mancos where Murrae told us of his speeding issues with the local rangers in the state park. (oops)

We started up towards Telluride, on yet another of Colorado's Beulltiful roads. Lush grasses, tall trees, lots of curves. We stopped in a small town called "Stoner" I felt obligated to take some pics by the sign...

Stoner, CO

Somewhere along the route we pulled over for a rest stop and saw the snow on the mountains. I thought of my Arizona friends and snapped a few pics.

The Uly couple

We stopped in Ridgway for gas and s short rest, and I saw this. Brought back memories of the "snowmobile" I saw up in Silverton on the last ride.

From there we shot up to Delta, and then headed east to Crawford, where we were going to have lunch at Joe Cockers bar, "Mad Dog Ranch". But alas, the place is closed down. : (
We had lunch and started down the mountain towards Blue Mesa Lake. Some spectacular views, and some great curves along this road...

We finally made it to Lake City, but not soon enough. I got pulled over and given a stern warning from one of the local cops, who was a little upset that my partner continued on. LOL (good girl Mona!)

As usual, Bruno was a pleasure to chat with, and his food was excellent. Murrae and I sat out under the stars and consumed some spirits, and solved all the worlds problems before calling it a night.
The next mornning we had breakfast at a diner in Lake City. Murrae was still feeling the effects from the night before, LOL.

Lake city group shot

As we headed southeast out of Lake City, the air was crisp, the roads had a little sand and gravel on the curves, and the scenery was great.

Mona and I stopped in Creed for a pee break and got separated from Murrae and Mabel who continued on.
We decided to wander around town and see the sights. It's a quaint little town, built at the end of a canyon. While wandering we came across this memorial to the fallen soldiers...

OOH-RAH!

We stopped along Wolf Creek at an overlook to see the valley below...

Wolf Creek, CO

We burned the rest of the way down into Santa Fe, just missing a nasty rainstorm.
I had a great weekend, I just love these roads up in Colorado, and for three days felt like I was in heaven.
Thanks Murrae and Mabel for coming along, we definitly need to do it again.
I'm sure Mona and I will ride up there again when we get back from vacation.
You can never have too much of a good thing...

JJ,
the wicked twistys ride is coming up in September I believe, 3 days of local riding, in Northern NM. YOu should try to make it. It's a National BRAG event.

We will also be going back up to Colorado probably two more times before winter hits. It's just a three day weekend, surely you can be sick one day? cough, cough, a case of road fever? LOL

I'm not sure if anyone is riding this weekend, the forecast is for rain both days. The schedule calls for a ride to Black Lake, I don't know where that is. : ( But I may still go.

I haven't heard from CJ in awhile, is he still alive? or is work killing him after all that time off? LOL

Kim,
How are you feeling? Are you up to a ride this weekend if it's not too wet?
Let me know what you guys think...

In my current job, USMC Recruiter, I frequently work 7 days a week. Even one day a week off is a luxury. Actually planning something is kinda rough. As recruiting goes, so does my time off. I am trying to take leave for the Wicked Twisties. Hope to see you all there, provided I can do what needs to be done by the end of the month...
