It was definately interesting getting stuck way out in the country like that. We were almost to Paint Bank coming in from the Fincastle side when it happened with a wicked Thunderstorm cloud headed right for us.The farmer that gave us a jumpstart was kind enough to give us a shortcut back to 220 and we luckily stayed ahead of the rain and made it home dry.

Once Nuts mentioned BMW I started loooking at all the different bikes and stumbled upon two that were pretty neat. Both made by Aprilia. One was called the Mille and the other was the Tuono. Everything I read hinted that they are very well made and trouble free but the closest dealer is up near D.C.. I also researched Ducati but after reading about the procedure to adjust the valves decided that unless they are free I wouldn't go near one. Then again the Firebolts are pretty awesome little machines. Exotic looking, easy to get parts for and downright fun to ride.
Decisions, decisions.....?

Jackie,
There use to be Aprilia dealers in Winston Salem and Charolette NC. They are great machines, but you might want to test ride one first. I'll don't think you will be happy with one, knowing where you'all ride.Buells give you confidence, the "Mille& Tuono won't.IMO.......Charlie

C'mon I can totally see Jackie on a Tuono. Those things rip. Who doesn't need 135hp at the wheel?

Actually Charlie I know you're dead on. Too much bike for me but they are quite appealing. We all know Jackie likes the "bling" factor and I thing we should all submit high dollar, high bling contenders.

Just got back from crunching numbers with Zack. It appears that I will be submitting a credit application on Monday. If it goes through then they will be bringing the yellow Firebolt down from Winchester. If it gets denied I will wait and sell the ATV then pay for it with good ole' cash money.
I REALLY like the Aprilias' but I can see getting in trouble on one. The mystique of the exotic bikes like Ducati and Aprilia really pumps me up though. I guess I look at them like the Ferrari and Lamborghini of the motorcycle world. Buell carries a bit of that exotic factor as well but they surely lose their value in a hurry. I guess I shouldn't look at it like an investment decision though.
Nuts',
If you don't have your bike back on Friday why don't we replace the ride with a little window shopping and go look at the European steeds down in NC just for fun?

Nuts,
Give me a shout around 2:30 so we can arrange the fishing trip. I think the bait shop is open until 4:00 or we can try and seine our own. Pickerel usually aren't real picky about what type of minnows used so if we do go that route make sure you bring a few wooden handles for the seine net.

Jackie, I've got to see if RVHD can bring me down a Uly when your Firebolt migrates. Of course they'd have to sell it for about the $11,408. Time'll tattle. Do you have all the rigging for pickerel? I can see them slicing right through my 4lb test. Can't wait to get out into that crisp, clean stream. Fishin makes me NUTS

A wonderful afternoon fishing was indeed had! A plentiful supply of rockbass, smallmouth, and a few surprises. Bullhead, pickerell and a touch of hypothermia! If we could find a way to transport live bait on the Buells we'd be in nirvana. As usual NUTS hooked into the biggest fish of the day and was unsuccessful landing it. The wiley pickerell was indeed caught by the self described "master" of all things outside.
Countdown to the dragon continues and I can't help but seethe in anticipation. We are going to have a whale of a time. Now if I can manage to get my bike back before my Pop arrives in two weeks I'll be golden. NUTS

Yes it was a fine time indeed! The scenery was like stepping back in time.
Surrounded by nature I never once heard the sounds of the civilized world other than the conversations between Nuts and myself.
Nuts' hooked into what was surely a citation sized Smallmouth but in the end the big ole' girl was too wily for him and eluded capture. The water was clear and the rocks were slippery. On many occasions we almost lost our footing and took the full plunge. I managed to save Nuts from a wet head once by hooking him under the armpit to keep him from going under. Let me tell ya' grabbing another mans hairy, bare armpit is something I never thought I would do but instinct took over. My hand still stinks !!
In the end we both caught many fish but I believe my title of "master of all things outdoors" is still intact for the time being.

Nuts,
Scratch the trip on Friday. I talked to Seth and Zack today and am going to go with the yellow Firebolt if the 07' isn't anything to write home about.
Zack said Shenandoah (which isn't the Winchester one sucka!) has a yellow one as well so I should be in good shape. Regardless I should have it in time to get the break in miles in so it is ready for the Dragon.
I'm so excited I am about to burst however the white rims kinda suck. They will be powdercoated black during the winter downtime for sure.

I believe this is a shot of the Cherohala(sp) Skyway. The dragon has no guardrails..

Just trying to keep up the excitement.

p.s. these pics are from killboy.com which I purchased a disk of photos and he included "extras".
The rusty stripes are stains from the guardrails, I believe. They were not slippery at all.

Jackie, I was giving serious thought to your dilemma last night and I think you should stick with your 'Bolt. I can see you now fretting over each and every little scratch. Besides the fact it'd be pretty cool to have the cash should something else arise. A nice project for the winter would keep your fingers busy too. I saw some awesome Ducati monsters on Superbikes last night. Tastefully customized. I'm sure you could pick up a Tuber and really make it something to be proud of. Like your previous custom builds it could really be something. You might even take pictures of this one! I know I'm throwing a wrench in the machine but that's just what I do.

Tank, thanks for keeping us "topped off." My Pop asked me to find info on a road near the Dragon that rides underneath a waterfall. Any ideas? He was told it exists but has no other info. NUTS

Nut's
The Ducati Monster was a bike I was considering after I got my Cyclone and before I rode with a couple of them. They ride very similar to the cyclone in handling and power and to a degree even style. We were riding the back roads in LA.&Miss. Lets just say of the 3 bikes(2 Duc's& 1 cyclone) the cyclone shined. They were a 900 & 1000 and they couldn't believe I could get away from them.
If you want something to polish and show off they have classic style, but so does an S1, but with more attitude.Just my thoughts, what ever Jackie gets it's gonna look great and have 20 coats of wax on it.LOL The older bikes look more hand made and not like something off an assembly line. But usually require more work.........Charlie

Fellas',
I am deep into this yellow Firebolt. At first I was trying to find reasons why I should buy a new bike when mine is in quite good shape but then all the little things started popping up. No more belt worries, updated oil pump gear, updated transmission, ease of rear tire change, more fuel capacity, warranty about to expire, 10,000 service not too far ahead and so on. With the small amount I would owe on the new bike it makes it very difficult to walk away from the idea of having the new model.
Believe me I know that scratches, chips and dings will happen regardless of what I do but at least each one will be during my ownership. With my bike there are some flaws that could have been avoided if the bike would have been kept indoors while under the care of the previous owner.
My biggest dilemma is over which bike to buy. I keep coming back to the Buell but thoughts of a Triumph, Aprilia or BMW keep running through my head. In the end I believe it will be a lot easier dealing with scratches as they come on a $9500.00 machine versus a $13,000-$15,000 bike.
You are probably right Nuts but as you know once you convince yourself of something it is difficult to talk yourself out of it .
The one thing that does lessen my lust for it though is those white rims. Something about them just doesn't sit well with me.

You say the bike is new, right?

They should be able to work some black wheels into the deal for you. That's how I scored a nearly new set of amber wheels on the cheap, which I might never use.

Tank,
It is new but I don't think our dealer will be too receptive to adding extras. They are a good group of fellas' but I guess they have a low profit margin or something. I'll tell you something really crazy. The bike is an 06' model and the 07' will be the exact same price. That is the only reason I don't already have the yellow one sitting at my house. I am waiting until Friday to see what the new models will be like. I ain't expecting any real changes so will probably get the 06' just so I don't have to wait several months on the new Bolts' to hit the local dealer.

Hey Jackie, you'll be back on Dunlops! If you wait for the '07 rumor says it'll have Pirelli's. MMMMMMM Pirelli. Dude get yourself a Tuber w/sidecar. Just think of all the extra polishing you can do! Seriously I'd be bargaining for some $ off or wheels or something. No one would be paying retail for an '06 with the new model due out in a month! By the way the only yellow Firebolts I know of are owned by women. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it is kind of an effeminite bike. NUTS (likes to "stir it up" just like Mr. Marley said.

There goes Nuts throwing a kink in my plans! Now I have to worry if he'll tell me I'm riding a girlie bike every time we go riding . Is there no end to his cruel treatment towards me?
Whaddya think guys, is the yellow Bolt' for girls? You can be honest with me. I'd rather hear it from friends before I buy it than hear it from strangers after I buy it! I like the yellow and I know Tanks' bike is yellow but do the white wheels make it fall on the feminine side? Darn you Nuts!! Now I'll sit around all night thinking about your comments!!!
I did check around at 2 other dealers and they actually wanted $200.00 more than what RVHD quoted me. They will be getting the bike from one of the other dealers and bringing it down which I guess could be the reason that the 06' would cost as much as the 07'.

Yellow might be faster but there are already 3 yellow ;bolts in the area. After Charlie's farewel there is only one Battle Blue Buell that I know of. In fact it looks pretty mint if memory serves. Jackie, they should be doing something for you, not vice-versa. In essence you'd be clearing their old stock for full retail. Now if an '07 comes around in time for Deals Gap that's another game. Purple isn't any better than Yellow in my opinion. No offense Tank. A Lightning on any color will always be the NUTS! Cyclones are cool too. I actually like Charlie's Cyclone better than any Firebolt. That thing sounds like a raped ape. UKNOWHO

Jackie,
I think, with black wheels, it would look tough enough to avoid the "girlie" comments. You could do some tasteful black stripes as well.(been thinkin' bout it myself)

Nuts,
No offense taken. I really wanted black, but I had to have a low for my short legs. The local dealer had it sitting on the floor and offered a decent deal, so I took it home. I warmed up to the yellow pretty quick, and it doesn't show scratches/blemishes anywhere near as bad as black.

Charlie,
Got the PM thanks!! Sent one back.

Tank,
I actually want the yellow plastics and have decided to go ahead and see if they can snag me a pair of the black rims. Check out my thread on the XB board titled "Yellow firebolt with white rims". There is a pic of one with the solid black windscreen and it does a lot to make the white rims look better. As it stands I will have the money for either the race kit or the rims. I gotta make the decision of what is more important to me. Nuts says the stock can sounds like doo doo so I'll have to cross that bridge on Tuesday when I go sign the paperwork.
Personally I don't believe Nuts thinks it looks bad either. I just think he likes to make me doubt myself (which he is good at) . I guess its just payback for out shooting him and out fishing him.

I was severely joking. Was meant as nothing more. I have been to Deals Gap and I survived. There is no reason to push your limits up there. The road will do that for you. Tank,
You picked up on the old backward spelling thing quickly so you may be as warped as we are (although I don't wish that on anyone). Our minds work in Jedi like ways my brutha!
Either we will get along fantastically or you and Nuts will have a mental showdown while I sit back listening whilst eating a bag o' porkrinds (may the best Jedi win). As for myself I have learned to use my mind to subdue my foes and make them bow down to my whims. Course' if that don't work a few Benjamins usually does the trick.
I still wish you could get over here before our trip so we can gently settle in to getting to know one another before being crammed together for a week.
I am going to go out on a limb here and forewarn you about Jason. He is quite gassy. Always coming out of one end or the other so try to stay in front of him while riding or you'll think you got 2 week old roadkill stuck on your bike somewhere.
Imagine trying to sit perfectly still while hunting yet dry heaving at the same time from the stench o' fresh butt oxygen wafting your way.
