Charlie,
Thanks for the kind, consoling words. I actually think the sticker looks pretty good but feel quite confident that by the time Ole' Nuts makes fun of it I'll be ready to cry like a baby. I don't know what yall's friendship was like but he is pretty mean to me. I buy all the minnows when we go fishing, show him my best hunting spots, call in and let him kill one of the biggest turkeys I've ever seen and what do I get in return? Nothing but heartache I tell ya! Oh the horror of it all!!
I think he is mad because when we ride everybody always asks about my bike and the girls always focus on me (even though I am bald). The few people who have spoken with him have said the same thing, "you got a headlight out". What can I say? Jealousy is a horrible thing.
Come back home so I can ride with someone who has some manners.

Jackie,
It's the price you have to pay for having a class act machine. I should have warned you about those blue Firebolts. Now you know why Zack had to sell it, his wife was jealous of the "Blue Firebolt". It's a real chick magnet, and guy's like Nut's can't handle being outclassed. That's why he is always abusing you, it's just pure envy. You have to be the bigger man and tough it out..........Charlie

Charlie, that is Craigs Creek. The Lightning did NOT attempt a crossing. The bike could have made it; the rider on the other hand isn't so good with wavering heights.

Mr. Jackson,
Oh man, all I can say is......I better not. NUTS

Nut's
A fellow could get lost in time, slowly picking his way along Craig's Creek. I think the bridge would be a piece of cake on a dirt bike, but the Firebolt would take some caution. Just the weight would be testing some of those old bridges. Your having more fun than I can stand. Enjoy your self because tomorrow is always an unknown............Charlie

Thank you for the words of wisdom friend. Getting to that bridge is a real pleasure. Take 606 out of Fincastle to 615N. Whoooey, that can be a bit of a smilemaker. I think Jackie and I are racing to 10K, I can assure you I'll be there first. I am not hampered by having to clean my ride instead of actually riding it. NUTS

O.K.,
Maybe he isn't as mean as I made him out to be. In fact it could be me. I have been told that I am thin skinned but have tried to improve on that as of late.

Nuts,
I have no doubts you'll beat me to 10,000 since I can't go out as early as you. Then again I may be starting from zero again in another 20 days or so .
I haven't dropped the idea on the wife yet but I think she will put a stop to my scheming in a heartbeat. She mentioned the other day that she still wants a Blast and is going to take the course over at Va. Western. If she does maybe we can case the joint out to see how well she does. I'll bring the snuff if you bring some binoculars. I ain't too convinced that she belongs on a bike since she barely is able to drive a car safely .
So what is the game plan for this weekends ride? You mentioned several possibilities yesterday. Have you decided on one in particular yet? You ought to get with Zack and schedule a Buell ride for us.
PS, If you wanna try some overnight catfishing this weekend I have secured us a spot on the lake.

I got the impression that the last few posts had hurt Ole' Nuts feelings being as sensitive as he is . Especially when I busted on his truck liner .
He's really going to be mad now that he sees that I ain't the only one who still thinks acid wash jeans are the cats' meow.

So Nuts, did you look at the Icon kevlar underwear? I got to make a decision soon before the money slowly trickles away buying Plexus and microfiber cleaning rags. You know I only use the rags once and then chuck them. Can't take the chance of trapped dirt making its' way back on the bike now can I?

Tank,
What kind of pants are you currently sporting on long rides? I'm up in the air over whether to get leather drawers or under the pants type armor.

I think I've contracted a strain of thin-skinnedness. It sure is a good thing I'm too tired to get on the Lightning and hurt something. I'm sure I'll be cured for my Friday ride.

Tank, I can't say I recall that quote. I liked that Quick Board quote page that was going a few months ago. Maybe someone will re-start it.

Hey Jackie, I took a look at the Icon Tutu. I think you would have to tuck them into the boots though. I'd like to help you with this decision but it really comes down to what YOU will wear. Hey, how about keeping those microfiber wipes and sew 'em together to make some really awesome aerodynamically efficient chaps. On a serious note; how about we set up sometime to get some action pics of the bikes in....well...action. Sounds like a good way to spend a few hours. That way we could see how inferior our riding really is. NUTS

Going out with the cruisers = acid wash jeans(yea baby), and Cortech GX Air mesh jacket(like wearing air conditioning). Nuts may refuse to be seen with us all maxed out in 80's garb.(now where's that Alice Cooper t-shirt)

On the more "spirited excurtions", I use my 2-pc leathers w/ full zipper. Tourmaster Coaster Air Jacket LINK , and Tourmaster Apex Air pants LINK . Both very perforated and cool well while moving.

Feel free to ask your better half what Systemic Mastocytosis can do to the body my friend. I am dangerously allergic to many things as you know and my joints are slowly deteriorating. Sound fun? Jason,
I typed up a long and rather blunt reply to your above post but decided I would just let it go and get over it. For the life of me though I don't see why you think I am "lashing out" or "starting trouble" since I was merely expressing another point of view. Do I not have a right to a different opinion? In the time I have known you I have come to see that you certainly have no qualms about sharing your own opinions on various matters. I may not agree with them but I respect you enough not to belittle them.
Regardless, your post has really caused me a measure of distress this evening. Because of this I regretfully bow out of tomorrows ride in an effort to let my stress level settle back down. I also believe that I am going to pass on the dragon trip. I am simply not going to put myself in a position that I have little to no control over with no escape. You may call it what you wish but I simply cannot tolerate the same things you can and have my doubts that you put any merit into my limitations.
Shame too since I was looking forward to it.
You are still more than welcome to borrow the trailer.

Jackie, I neglected to put a smiley of some sort in my above post. I do enjoy a bit of good natured ribbing and I did not write the post with anything other than that in mind. This sure is a shame because I was going to start this message with "Today is going to make for one FANTASTIC opportunity to ride!" I wish to not hash this out over this forum as I fear my intent might not be conveyed as I hope. I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me a ring at your convenience today.

I would like to remind you of all the serious conversations we have had in our short friendship so that we might be able to continue our positive track. So much to say... NUTS

Man this is getting ridiculous. The only thing I can do is go riding and that'd mean leaving my good friend out. I refuse to sit here waiting for the phone to ring so I can get my opportunity to apologise. I am a man in control of my own destiny and if you can't give me the opportunity to make things right then I have no other recourse. So the phone will now ring and I can only hope to be riding soon with my friend. NUTS

I have already apologized and kissed Nuts' butt but I wanted to give a public apology as well as an explanation of why I went stupid like I did.
First, Nuts' did NOTHING to deserve the responses I gave and I am truly sorry I misinterpreted his post and more sorry that I didn't take the time to realize that a good friend wouldn't do that in the first place.
Now the reason for my sensitivity regarding the issue. My illness is something I usually keep to myself and a select few friends who help me deal with it(of which Nuts is one). I had originally posted on a thread where someone questioned the idea of cutting up a Buell to make a trike without giving thought to the rider being disabled. This stirred up memories of my own battles that I went through when I first became ill.
When I was in my early 20s' I worked a full time job and decided to start my own business. I did this for two years working 7 days a week and sometimes up to 35 hours straight on the weekends. I finally left my permanent job and over the next several years ended up building the business to the largest of its' kind in SW Va employing more than 2 dozen people and generating several million dollars in revenue. 6 years later I began to get violently ill every day and quickly got to a point where I could no longer continue to function or run the business. I went to several doctors and was eventually diagnosed with a very rare progressive disease with no cure and very little in the way of treatment.
Because the symptoms are triggered by smells, climate, stress, etc. I was forced to give up my dream and all that I had worked for to apply for disabilty. I started the process with 3 physicians backing my claims that I could not function and would continue to rapidly decline in health unless I had control over my environment. I was told at each step that "I was too young to receive benefits" or "You don't look disabled". This went on for close to 2 years until finally my case was heard and approved by a judge. The idea that I was being denied because "I looked o.k." on the outside still stuns me to this day.
Nuts' post was innocent yet I chose to take it in a way that sparked my anger for what I suffered through just a few short years ago. I publicly ask for Nuts' forgiveness as well as the forgiveness of my internet friends that had to read and deal with my own personal issues.

Well, all's well sort of. After hooking up with my good friend yesterday we embarked on a joyous ride out to Craigs Creek. That was soon followed by a dead battery in the bike, and Jackie riding out to beg a local farmer for a jump. Bike is home now and about to undergo surgery. I can't be thankful enough my good friend was there to bail me out (again). I guess I am back in his debt (which usually means I have to climb some tree and stick my hand down the trunk in search of a half dead, certainly rabid raccoon!)

The Lightning is in for warranty service and hopefully it will be rectified. I also sprung for the 10k mile service $200. It's about 800 miles early but I want it done before my Pop gets here in 2 weeks. Jackie diagnosed the problem being the stator or alternator. Hopefully he'll be able to soon say "told you so!" I just hope I didn't fry the rear cylinder running it without the fan for so long. If HD had reasonable rates for finance I'd be into the Ulysses already as I surely can see a need for practicality. I need to carry some sort of jumper cable, extra oil, water(for me),jacket, waterproofs. These are all things that could have come very useful yesterday if Jackie had not been there. I have tow service through my insurance but it'd be hard to get them on their way without any cell phone coverage! So The bike will probably be gone a week and then it'll take who knows how long to get my confidence back up. I can't begin to think how horribly screwed I could have been If my pal were not there. Maybe I'll find my way over to Lynchburg today; they have a pretty nice BMW that's catching my interest....NUTS

Nut's,
Why do you think it's the stator? Did you put a volt meter on it? Could just be a loose conn. or bad battery. What did you do when it clicked on you at the HD shop? Hope you get off cheap............Charlie

Charlie, I bought a new battery yesterday after the initial click.. Then got stranded in Allegheny county. I charged the new battery all last night and tested it at 12.7 volts this morning. Cranked the bike up and the battery was showing between 11.4 and 12.3 volts. So not mantaining charge. I guess it could be the alternator as well, either way it will hopefully be a warranty item. I can't see why not. The warranty period does end in October so I guess it's better it happened before it really would have cost me. I found a Ulysses in Winchester for $11,408 out the door. That's $900 cheaper than RVHD can do. I just need to get no less than $6500 for the Lightning. For that kind of cash I'm going to have to sell it retail. Jackie and I might be getting a two new bike deal soon. Time'll tell. NUTS
