Awesome day at the track yesterday with my buddy who doesn't ride, but will soon.

Still haven't got a knee down, but with my short legs, I don't expect to. Somewhere in my genius packing scheme, my boots got left behind. I was worried at first, but was able to rent a pair from the organizer. They didn't have toe sliders, and they really should have. (yes,I dragged a toe but not a knee)

Jackie,
By the time I can head out everyone else will be heading in which kinda leaves me as the odd man out.

Not necessarily. No offense to anyone, but I would rather wait and ride Buells for a bit, than lounge around with chrome rolling couches all day. Don't get me wrong, riding is riding, but given the choice....

I agree that Jason should spend time with his pop. Given the distance, I'm sure it's difficult to get "quality time", or much time at all.

Not sure I would go if either of you were not there. The amazing comedy duo just wouldn't be the same.
.
.
.
.
.
So here is my $.02, plus a penny for good measure...

I can procure suitable shelter for us three(or more) at one of the houses nearby(The Ridge is booked by someone else). If y'all want to roll out mid-week, no problem, we can work out fair payment for time stayed(I'm a very generous landlord). So no BS, come, have a good time, leave whenever y'all are ready, or stay longer than planned.

Let me know!

..plenty of room for bikes numbering in double digits...

So there may be more now? Rabbits, I say, rabbits.(hehe)

Tank, Pops did speak to the landlord last week and procured the "treetops" along with the $200 deposit. They also got the gentleman to agree to a "refund" in the untimely event of a hurricane. Given the Floridians' profession they would have to forego the trip last minute. But...you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be on the phone directly so they can finalise the finals. Thanks for the heads up, and I'll get back when I know more. NUTS

Jackie, I'll give you a ring from work.

Just wanted to throw caution. I could hear the "gentleman" flipping through the pages of the largest book I have ever heard over the phone. He said "treetops" was available, and "the point" had a weekend rental but would be available for a sun-sun rental(9/10-9/17), and "the ridge" was booked.

just lookin' out, and tryin' to help...

Tank

P.S.(NY accent) I'm dyin' over here thinking about all dem "big bikes" in a trailer. What are they, drivin" a freakin semi?

Whatever they're riding will be about 10 minutes behind the Buells. There are 2 GSXR's going and those'll be the ones I'll be worried about. Too much bike for too little experience. I can see these guys getting in waaay over their heads real easily. NUTS

Hey yo Jack, those stones have made you incommunicado. Give me a ring this afternoon so we can get this mulled over. If I don't hear from you today I'll be inviting RD. You have to rent "The 40 year old virgin," it's quite graphic but I almost gave myself a hernia laughing at work. Too funny! NUTS

Hey Nuts,

When I call the "gentleman" back, I want to make sure I don't screw up and make the incorrect reservation.

If you wouldn't mind saying, what name is the reservation under?
(pm it to me if you don't want to put it here)

Thanks

I'll be contacting the gentleman tomorrow.

Jackie looks pissed cause he can't decide which bike to ride.

Tank

p.s. we should have a "group talk" with the "straight liners" about riding within their own abilities before they try to "slay the dragon". I volunteer, but need positive reinforcement. My trailer is not a recovery vehicle, but can be if necessary.

MAN I AM COOL!!
Just so Tank and Charlie know what they missed I am gonna break it out here. Bear with me Tank (pun intended), I am gonna list the routes so Charlie can get a mental picture of our ride.
We left my house and took 116 up to 122. Made a pitstop for gas and then headed down to Hales Ford bridge to have a pinch of snuff and look at the lake. Followed 122 into Bedford and then took 43 up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. When we hit the Parkway we pulled over at The Peaks Of Otter rest area. There, sitting in the brush was a big ole' female bear with 3 cubs! Me and Nuts were probably 25 yards away while they fed and played. I told Nuts that as long as we didn't threaten the cubs or get in between them we would be fine. I also told him not to run should she charge. Well, they started feeding through the woods and ended up popping out a bit closer this time. I started backing up and Nuts says "I thought you said not to run" LOL! I then replied "I ain't gonna run but think we need to back up a bit . They finally strolled up the ridge and out of sight. I gotta tell ya' I felt blessed to be able to see such an awesome sight on their own turf.
We finished the ride up by cruising the Parway back home. Good company, wonderful weather and beautiful scenery. Can't ask for much more than that.
So are you guys jealous yet??

oh yeah,I am.
Several years ago, I was at the Resturant at the peaks(breakfast buffet). A guy came in looking like he had been sleeping on the trail. He said he had been driving south on the BRP and hit a "very large black bear" it disabled his car and it was pitch black(no moon). He was afraid to get out of the car, didn't know where the bear was(it was defenitly injured). He spent the night in his car and hiked out at daylight(about 4 miles to the Peak's Lodge), no sign of the bear. Rangers took him back to check on his car, had it hauled off on a rollback(blood& hair all over the front of the car...........Charlie
PS Not a good place to ride in the dark on a bike.

Charlie, I have been trying to remember which route we took last year when we left from the Lake and headed back into town. I'm pretty sure we got off 122 soon after the bridge and then ended up on 43. I need help, 122 is less than fun.

Tank, I have been giving Pop that speech every day since we decided to go. I've been sending videos and pics of what can happen when riders do not respect the roads. I have encouraged them all to take the MSF advanced riders course. My Pop is coming up here in July with his bike so I can give him some lessons on mountain roads. He'll be taking those lessons home to the troops. The big picture is RESPECT (just like Aretha says!) without it your getting airlifted. We have already dissuaded one rider from bringing his girlfriend/pillion and I am seriously considering advising the 2 guys with sportbikes to bring their cruisers instead. This might be safer for me too, as I have a habit of getting sucked in to the "faster" vortex. Nuts is gone!

Nut's
I think the route you are talking about turns left off 122 coming from SML near Shop-rite in Moneta, goes a couple of miles and then left onto road that goes thru Goodview, stay on it till Stewartsville, cross rt24, keep straight thru Jordontown, stay on that rd. for a good ways then another left towards Montvale, hit rt460 go left short distance, then right off 460 at old Montvale School House, about a mile thru tunnel take next right, stay on that road till you get to the BRP.Route 43 is straight ahead into Buchanan. There are several other roads that shadow that route that you could take also, sorry I can't remember the rt#s. Would love to be there to show you again. If you look at a detailed Va. map you can prob. piece it together.............Charlie

Nuts,
Where am I going to carry my snuff? I guess I could try to squeeze it in the satchel up front but that is already going to be filled to overflowing capacity .
I already got my game plan down for the Beemer. In two years the van will be paid off which leaves me pretty much debt free other than the house. Provided the Escape is still in good shape, that fine hunk o' machinery shall be mine and when it is I don't want you to even so much as lay a finger on it. Matter of fact you can gaze at it all you want but you must stay at least 15 feet away from the vehicle at all times.
Upon further thought when we pull over to rest you should park your hunk o' bolts at one end of the lot whilst my new machine takes up two parking spaces at the other end of the lot. I don't want my fine pedigreed machine to be seen sitting still with a lowly pocket bike BWAHAHAHAHA!!

Tank,
You done gone and hurt my feelings! I was gonna be your friend but that train has now left the station buddy .
I gotta tease ole' Nuts to make up for my lack of riding ability versus his. Since I can't ride anywhere near as well as him I have to rag on him when the opportunity presents itself. Don't feel bad for him though, I am usually on the receiving end .
I appreciate the offer of splitting lodging but think we have it worked out where I will still be able to dwell in "treetops".

Whew, Just got done watching the "wingin' The Dragon" thread and I almost got motion sickness ! I am VERY excited but at the same time a bit nervous. People have hyped this thing up so much that it almost sounds unbelievably dangerous.
Somebody reassure me that if treated with respect and common sense death or serious injury is avoidable and an enjoyable time can be had .

Jackie,
A couple of guys I know that have been several times said,it is an experience that every sportrider should have, but if you listen to too much of the hipe it's anti-climatic.They said they enjoyed the surrounding roads better(not as crowded). Ride your own pace and hope not to get rear-ended.And don't wear that red thong going down the Dragon, even if Nuts double dares you........Charlie

Jackie, Nothin' personal, I just "poke fun" whenever possible and it doesn't matter who it is. I have the biggest laughs at myself, though.

Somebody reassure me that if treated with respect and common sense death or serious injury is avoidable and an enjoyable time can be had

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Having only been there once, I have to agree with Charlie. Rt. 129 is "the road",and whoa, what a road. There are other good riding roads which have less traffic, and are far less treacherous.

Don't let the hype scare you off. I was very nervous the first run. I soon realized that it is just a road(a very curvy one), and mostly has the same hazards as any road, just more of them.

Ride your own ride!

Tank,
I was just messin' with ya! I think you'll find Nuts and I have a bit of oddness to our humor. Might take you a little while to warm up to it but after that you'll enjoy interjecting your own nuggets of stupidity . If you really want to get up to speed and join in on our stupidity go rent History Of The World and Pulp Fiction. Memorize as many of the goofy lines as you can and start posting while they are fresh in your memory.

Charlie,
Thanks for the encouragement. I will say I am one to get sucked into the hype(usually the first in line LOL!). Actually I hope it is anti-climatic since I have visions of danger and the Grim Reaper around every corner imprinted in my head. Since we are going with several cruisers my hope is I can hang back with them and enjoy the scenery in a group instead of pushing myself too hard to try and keep up. I am hoping that the crew from Killboy get a good picture of my fine riding style so I can get a poster made for Nuts in time for Christmas.

Nvts,
Where you hidin' at? Alright I'll let you sit on my Beemer when I get it if it will make you feel better. But you still gotta park across the lot BWAHAHAHA!!

Nobody wants to stay with me.

I haven't been able to reach the Gentleman, and I'm getting cold feet. Think I might need to look for cheaper shelter, still close by.

Is there ANY chance I might talk a couple folks from the "big house" into cheap rent?

I reeeeaaally don't want to get stuck paying for a big house by myself.

It ain't that I don't wanna stay with ya', it's more like I'm broker than a crackhead on a Saturday night. Buying boots, Draggin jeans and food has left me destitute. It is quite possible that I have to come up with the funds to get a new rear tire before the trip as well.
Nvts,
How much life do you think your extra Pilot Power rear tire have left? Might have to chunk it on before the trip if we keep up the long rides 2x a week. Whatcha think man, huh, huh, huh??

Tank, Pops has put several e-mails and calls into the establishment with no luck. I am supposed to get a total tally next week and if there is room you're more than welcome to bunk in with the rest of us. Unfortunately it's gonna take that long to figure out which of these folks are just talking. There are definitely 4 with a probability of 8. Outside numbers could be approaching 12. Sheesh that's pretty unreliable info right there! But like I said next week the ultimatum will be fulfilled. If they want to go after that then their gonna have to provide their own lodging. What else ya thinking of hocking there buddy? Rims with rotors? NUTS

Jackie, I'll let ya get a looksee at the used rear. I don't think it would be wise to use the tire but to each his own. I'll see if I can get my Pop to buy us some tires at cost. We have a sort of hook up down south. Let me mill that around. I paid $90 for the rear and $70 for the front. NUTS

No joke...She must have accidentally picked up the phone last night. They must not want to book the places too badly, if they won't answer, return a call, or respond to e-mail.

I will wait to hear the final results. It will be difficult, but I will try.

In my winter/spring buying spree, I ended up with a couple things I may not use. Wheels have no rotors or pulley...only bearings and spacers. I'll see what else I might let go cheap.(enter sound of rummaging through parts here)

Welp Nuts,
Since there is a 90% chance of rain tomorrow I had no choice but to go down and clean every nook and cranny of the ole' Firebolt with brushes and Qtips. Couldn't let the poor thing sit around dirty until our ride next week. If it does rain tomorrow I promised her I would spend some time lovingly polishing her rims.
I wish there was some way to easily get to the rocker box lids. If there was I would break out the ole' buffing wheel and spend the day immersed in polishing bliss. Bling, Bling my friend, Bling, Bling!

Small world...

Our buddy Ron(Mr Johnson) called me as well. He did confirm your Pops reservation, and gave me a tentative reservation with no deposit. The outcome will depend on your final tally. I may take you up on your offer if the number stays low.

He said the reason for the lack of communication this past week was the "Honda Hoot", thousands of riders converging on the area.
