Mike...Sounds like fun. Let me know when you are free to go.

I think I will pass on the golf jokes as the old Harley ads said it best. "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand."

What insurance companies do you folks recommend to insure an 2000 X1 in Wisconsin.

I have full coverage for $360 with State Farm as I insure everything with them.

A friend has the same deal with American Family and they just quoted him $1000 for an X1.

Needless to say we are both confused on this one. As we both have Wide Glides insured with the respective companies for $375 and immaculate driving records.

Suggestions please...

call the number for HOG if you're a member and get the insurance quote. they broker deals through several insurance companies and that's where i found the best deal when i was living in MN, VT, and WI. (it was with dairyland, but through the HOG system)

however, i'll be switching to state farm at the end of the next policy because i really like their customer service and coverage. they only write motorcycle policies as an additional policy - so you've got to have your auto with them too.

Bill I'm with State Farm, have been for over 20 years. I'm paying exactly what you are paying for your X1. They base it off of CC's. Your HD is the next jump from the 1200 cc's. My record is clean as well. Stay put you probably get better service because of other policie's with them. House, car's etc.

Dana...Thanks for the insurance info.

Isn't for me, it is for my friend Jim Schmidt. He is buying an X1 like mine to add to his collection and American Family is quoting him really high rates and he has two homes, three cars, two boats and a wide glide insured by them.

In fact, I would say Jim is as vested in American Family as Dyna was when they gave him the super rate on his Yamaha R1. So, in my mind, thing just don't add up. Especially when you consider all of his rates with American Family are almost identical to what State Farm is charging me.

Trust me, there is no way am I leaving State Farm. Have been with them for over 30 years. I am very satisfied and have had a number of claims all of which were settled quickly and fairly. FEMA could learn a thing or two from them. LOL

Does anyone else have any local motorcycle insurance suggestions?

Looks like I'll just have to get Jim to join HOG. LOL

The Ducati event sounds great. Thanks for the heads up.

I was with State Farm until family situation changed (family member owns an insurance office in Grafton). Now with Acuity for house and cars and the bikes are on a linked policy with Progressive, bike rates are comparable to what State Farm had for me.

Wish I knew about this Ducati event sooner, got scheduled for other stuff tonight. Bummer.

No problem.

Learned something this weekend, bought a rototiller at a rummage sale, fixed it, wound up using it, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllll weekend, I'm tired and sore today.

Got a mis-fire to sort out on the S2 by Friday. Might have had something to do with the car wash sprayer, but I would never do such a thing, so it must be something else. Nooks and crannies and relay should be dried out by tomorrow, unless it's water in the tank, drained a cup of gas out the petcock just in case that's what it was, will know tomorrow if it's better or worse. Worst case I'll either ride the M2 or the rototiller to Appleton on Friday. No seat on the 'tiller so it will be a long slow bumpetity walk if that's what I'm taking up there.

Mike, you just might qualify to be my best friend if you could drop it off here for a day. LOL

Oh well, forget the best friend part. That won't even get you a free cuppa joe at a greasy spoon. However, I would be more than happy to pay cash, plus free coffee or whatever, for a few hours of tilling.

Email me if you are interested.

Anyone know where to get a showa shock wrench for a tuber?

I've been doing far too many two up rides with the neice recently. And turning up the compression to high, is how I screwed up my last shock. And if this one goes, I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a penske or WP.

Mike, don't feel bad about missing the ducati stuff, I don't think the weather is going to cooperate much. But it looks like it *MAY* cooperate for homecoming though.

Outtie, I've also had my bikes and cars insured thru State Farm. They've ALWAYS been great to me. Claims are the easiest I've EVER dealt with. Dunno how they are gonna like the 39MPH ticket I got last month on my brother's Hyabusa though : (

My agent has been super cool as well. Stopped by there on the way to pick up the CityX in January, and he just put insurance on the bike immediately without payment. Like he said "Just in case" the deal didn't go thru, I wouldn't be out any $ for insurance, on a bike I didn't receive.

We are now also Blastless : ) Down to 2 Buells in the shed.

WARNING:shameless hat promotion follows:

The club has 5 pink Brew City Brag, "homecoming 2006" hats not spoken for, if anyone is interested. You can fit in with the rest of the "pink hat brigade" this weekend, while also being different all at the same time : )

I may also have some in khaki.

Uh, Steve, did you loose the shop keys?
A dial or Vernier caliper to measure and access to either a laser, water jet, or CNC, or even an old fashioned coping saw could cut you a decent wrench out of plate stock in short order.
(Don't tell anybody, but I used a monkey wrench on the M2's shock nut last time I adjusted it. Then I left it set there and just ride stiff lately. But if you do happen to make one and accidently make an extra one I might be interested. : ) )

Also check down at Hal's and see if they have an unsold one sitting on a shelf in their storage room someplace. I'm not sure if Al @ American Sport Bike has made another run of them or not.

Bill,
How soon do you need it? Another relative has dibs on it next, but they're not on the calender yet. Also, I have no idea how I'd strap it to the back of the bike for transport.

And just a heads-up in case any of you wander through town on the way back from RoadAmerica, this is Port's Pirate Days festival weekend.

Wouldn't want any of you to think you slipped into a time warp. Argh

Steve...From experience, I can't say enough good about State Farm.

This is for a friend of Di's husband who has everything insured with American Family via a friend of his since grade school. Hard to break those kind of bonds, eh?

Personally, I think the guy just read the rates for the wrong bike. As a challenge, I have Jim checking on rates for the SV650 as that is what the X1 runs against at the track. That should prove a point, eh?

------------------------------------------

Like your tacky hat promo!!!

The graphics are great and offering both Hot Pink and Tacky Khaki will get you increased market penetration.

Me, I would go for a black or white one. Then that is what makes me uniquely different in every sense.

Mike...No rush, but I believe we have hit upon an impasse. LOL

I have a strong feeling their is no way I am going to get it into my Miata.

I sure love that car, but there are times when I would trade it in for something that can pull a trailer.

Hmmm...Wonder if I can con the War Department into driving a Slick SUV that can trailer stuff like this. Yeah, sure...

Two words: Porsche Cayenne

If I have an Open House out in Pewaukee in the next few weeks we can coordinate and I can drop it off with the pickup on the way there and pick it up on the way back. I'll ping you if I get something out your direction scheduled.

Thanks, sounds like a plan to me. Let me know when and I will make the arrangements on this end.

You obviously have never seen Di drive. Remember the part where most male passengers are usually hitting the imaginary brake. Well, with Slo-Mo behind the wheel, I hit the imaginary accelerator.

Get the feeling the Porsche Pepper would be a waste of money for Di? She would lug it to death. LOL

Insurance update...

Got a call from my friend last night asking about State Farm and my agent. Apparently, he is switching everything to State Farm.

Quite simply, his American Family agent claims the reason for the high quote on the X1 has to do with their not wanting to insure Buell's due to the high losses incurred with the XB's.

Interesting how they can't differentiate between a Tuber and an XB frame and just stereotype all Buell's in the high risk category.

Will be interesting to see if American Family changes their tune when they realize they are losing a client with two homes, three cars, two boats, a Harley and a two million umbrella liability policy just because they messed up on a Buell quote.

Will advise as the worm turns.

how much are the khaki hats? if you have any left, and if they're available to former members subject to appropriate disclaimers as to how I came into possession of said hat should I somehow come into possession of one that is.

Outtie, The wife wanted a pink Buell hat. Since NOBODY had them any longer, and Hals didn't want to order as many as it took to complete an order, I decided to check in to getting some Brew City ones made. It was fairly inexpensive to tell you the truth. I've already got 8 of 'em spoken for. I'm having a dozen pink, and a dozen khaki ones made up by tomorrow afternoon.

I'm not looking to make a profit either. for 24 hats, it's costing me between $8.50 to $9.50 each. Not bad for such a small run. So Mike, it'll be less than $10. I did this more for the fun of it, than anything else. And the advertising for the club ain't bad either : )

I'm pretty sure I can unload all 24 of 'em this weekend.
