Perfect. Thanks man. Should be a nice little prelude to the trip...right out the door.

I was outside in the rain for four hours at the BRC and riding around. It got chilly afterwards didn't it? That rain was amazing, it just kept getting heavier and heavier. Even my rain gear soaked through.

Also, I hit 65 a few times last week. That pavement is silky smooth. Watch out for on the the last curves coming out of paint rock. You can see over the crest and it looks like its a slight bend yet it drops sharply and curves to the right. I went slightly wide the first time around. Heads up lads.

Thanks for the heads up. My pops' heritage softail should keep us within the limits reality the first time we ride thru there so we should be good.

Not to mention I'm relatively new to "street capable" bikes so i don't intend to be crazy my first few times out there...

Need some opinions.

I sent my official complaint letter to Rocket HD last Tuesday and asked to be contacted within a week. I addressed it to the GM and Service Manager. Unfortunately I did not have the GM's email address so I sent it the Service Manager and two other email addresses listed on their website as "general information" POCs.

I have not heard anything back from them, so I'm about to write a follow-up letter to them.

Or am I just wasting my time?

You may want to copy Buell Customer Service as well. If Rocket sees that it went to them, they may be more apt to reply.

That's a good idea. Thanks.

I'll send them a copy of the original and copy them on the follow up letter.

Thanks

I've never had issues like that with Rocket. Have you tried a small chat with them in person?

Yeah, I spoke to Service Manager over the phone when it first happened and that's when I got the "I know...it's bad" or something like that but nothing else. By the time I got there to pick up the bike, I was very ready to talk to him again, but he was not there so I chose not to "convey" my displeasure with the guy that had nothing to do with it.

I guess at this point I just don't feel like I should have to go back there and open up a dialogue. On principal, I think they should contact me. I know it sounds petty but I felt like nothing more than a $ sign to them.

Thats very understandable. Perhaps in could be preferential treatment in my situation due to me knowing the people, and being there almost every other weekend. I will mention it to Mike and the service manager this weekend and see if I can help resolve the situation.

Cheers

Edonis,

That would be very much appreciated.

BTW, the weather is looking good for sunday. Anyone want to ride? I wouldn't mind seeing the State Rd 65 RAtyson mentioned before I take my old man down it.

Flyor,
The group that I ride with is planning a ride out to Beersheba on Sunday. Everyone is meeting at the Shell on hwy 72 and Jordan lane at 10am sunday.
I am on call, so I will not be able to make the whole trip, but I am considering joining the group at least up through 65, then I will have to head back home.
They would be happy to have anyone come out and join in the fun.

Also, if you are interested, tonight is Bike Night at Sammy's sports bar. They have a really nice turnout, live band, decent food, $1 beers (which is nice, but not very conducive to riding home, so I usually have 1 when I get there and that is it.). They are located on Hwy 72 just past Dreamland BBQ, next door to the La Quina Hotel.
My wife is not feeling well, so I am not sure if I am going to make it out there tonight.

RA - might be able to swing by tonight but no promises. My wife's 6 months pregnant so me kitchen passes are sporadic!

As for Sunday, the forecast has completely changed and now they're saying that tomorrow is going to be the good day and Sunday is crap...80% chance of rain...

I know this is short notice, and if you guys are not computer addicts like I am you may not even see this... but.

I was thinking about taking a ride today, you guys up for it? We can work out a meeting place and time.
If I don't hear anything by about 10am... I will head to the shell on 72 and jordan and hang out till about 11am or so.

Sorry I missed ya RA. Our computer at home is just about dead...so I didn't read this

Speaking of riding (and I'm going to post this in the tech section too, but just in case any of y'all know this one off hand)...

I have been noticing a slight "stutter" at lower speeds and RPMs between 2K and 3K (particularly when commuting in traffic...say holding 25 MPH in a school zone at about 2600 RPM). It's almost as if a cylinder/plug is skipping firing every so often. It's very subtle but it did it blatantly yesterday out near Fayetteville. No issues above 3K or at higher speeds that I notice and when I jump on it no problems either. As I'm pretty much ignorant to EFI I have no idea where to even start but after reading in here quite a bit I've noticed a couple of things:

- The lower gearing is very low and tourqey (is that a word?) so it could be this and I could be just a bit too sensitive to it?

- The TPS could be off?

- I've read some interesting stuff in here on plugs on newer bikes, so I thought I'd change those out regardless just to see if it helps. This is the only one that makes sense to me at this point.

Now here's my big worry. My dad and I depart Wednesday morning for Myrtle Beach so I have less than 48 hrs. Of course, I could just take my chances...there are lots of Buell dealers between here and Myrtle...I could get to test my one free BRAG tow!

Oh yeah, last thing. I bought the fault code dongle from American Sportbike but of course, I don't own a Uly Maintenance Manual so I can't read it. The card has all the faults listed with a 1-1 or 1-2, 2-3 type stuff. Total dutch to me at this point. I did plug it in and turned the key. I got a flashing Check Engine Light, with a brief pause, then flashing and so on..

UPDATE to above post. I did some digging (apparently you're supposed to do that first!), and found some stuff that is literally identitical to what I described.

I would seem that I have a case of Lean Surge. The problem is there is no real solution. Each guy is getting a different response from his HD/Buell dealer. Most involve a TPS reset and a check, or a "buy a race kit cause it isn't going away...the ECM is mapped very lean for emissions". Others are getting totally different stuff.

Seems the O2 sensor could be faulty or just installed improperly too.

So, I have some ideas and at least I'm not alone in this. I'll swap the plugs just to be safe and when Kevin swaps out the Drummer Econo for my stocker maybe he can check the O2 sensor's connection. Heck, the drummer may even help a little...

An after market exhaust normally makes lean condition worse not better.

Bike under warranty? Take it to the dealership and tell them you're getting ready to head out on a trip. Tell 'em it just started to act up with engine light and you need their help.

Flyor,
If you call Rocket, ask for Alan (he is their resident buell tech), he could probably fit you in somwhere if you let him know you are headed out on a road trip.

Wow, no posts for a long time.

We got back from Myrtle Beach yesterday with only a few hiccups. The biggest being a new rear tire for my Uly due to a sizable puncture in the tread block. Since the nearest town was Cleveland, TN I'm now the proud owner of a Dunlop 207 or something like that. A true street tire. The nearest D616 dual sport tire was in Anderson, SC...140 miles and the Appalachian mountains away from me, so I opted for the safer choice of not trying a patch and making it to the D616.

Other than that it was good riding and pretty good weather for a total of 1350 miles over the six days. Not bad.

Oh yeah, I linked up with Kevin from KD Fabrication and he installed the Drummer Econo on the bike. It sounds great and even offers some performance gains...not the least of which was averaging just shy of 52 MPG on the way home.

You know how you are doomed to forget one thing for a significant trip. Well, mine was the digital camera. I may be able to scan some of the pics my dad took, but it was 95% custom harleys that he was interested in. Not too many Buells there anyways.

Take it easy on that D207. I have bad experiences with them. Sounds like your trip was great. How did you like 65?

Thanks for the heads up on the tire. The guy did tell me that I would lose some wet weather traction, but that once it was scuffed in good it should be fine on dry pavement. I'll definitely heed your advice.

65 was very cool. Unfortunately I only rode up about about 5 miles and then back to 72 as I was short on time. It was enough to wet my appetite for more though.

Speaking of trips does anyone know of anything cool going on this Memorial Day weekend?

I misspoke. I don't have a Dunlop 207. I have the Dunlop Qualifier. Don't know if this is better or not. Had no issues with it during a nice ride this past weekend.
