Planning a long ride with your friends. - Days

Tank of gas (3.7 gals.) - $13.28

Saving your friends a$$es$ by taking the fall - $1000's

Having the character to be cool, calm and good natured about it. - Priceless

I am really impressed by John's character. In these days of blaming others or inanimate objects, John showed real fortitude and good nature. Everybody on hand really impressed me. It is in emergencies and bad times that an individual and a group will show their true worth. John and Socal BRAG are the right types of people that I always want to ride along with. I fell very fortunate for the experience of a beautiful day, a great road, and the company of a wonderful group of people. Sorry your bikes out of commission for a while John. Can't wait to ride with you again.

And Jack and Eric, thanks for all the great pictures. Jack, I know you had the camera in your tail bag, but as many pictures as you took, I swear you had it in a holster tied down to your leg.

Anybody wanna go to the Rock Store on Sunday?

(this is from Joanne)

Andrew,

You hit the nail on the head. Never heard John swear, rant or blame anyone once during the entire day (and it was a long one!) True grace under pressure.

It was a real pleasure spending the day with you all; many thanks to Ebear, Tom, and Dan and Shelly for all their help, great seeing you Cindy and Jack! Despite John's mishap, it was a glorious day, both in terms of weather and people, wasn't it? Thanks to all for making it.

Joanne

PS, Ebear, who was that gentleman in the car at Mother's (with the gas can?)

John,
I hope you survived your wife as well as you survived Palomar. You are truly one lucky hombre and we are all thankful that you are in Motrin fighting condition without nary a scratch.

John,
if you register, the option to download is made available [flag the images you're interested in, and then select 'lightbox' in the upper left nav and download the images in zip format]. I only have it set up this way to help thwart spammers and deter casual digital pick-pockets

Or, I can still email them if you prefer - let me know - jack at rhinowerx dot com

Cheers

Well , sorry for the wait but Monday was murder and all the Pics I processed today won't get posted till tomorrow. So heres what I brought home with me....Before I go on I want to concur with the WONDERFUL and PATIENT Joanne(by the way , do you have a sister,Joanne??)Everybody was great and John was a class act considering the circumstances.
...We arrived massively late at the Hideout...thank you all for waiting!.... this was due to the ridiculous wait for food some had to endure at Hells Kitchen..(I guess once your in Hell, what can ya say??)We also ran into some nice folks there with a Buell that didn't know about the ride but they accompanied us to the Hideout anyways.
The Brag meeting was short and sweet and of course once again Sparky and Jen won most everything even without attending! We then Blasted up the Backside of Palomar in Beautiful Blue skies and all was well...rounded up the troops at the top and Joanne and I went down the front and found ourselves a corner to set up on.
Zack and his buddy hiked into the forest in the crook of the turn with the radios and assisted us in identifying the bikes coming up so we wouldn't be shooting the wrong V-Twins.THANK YOU ZACKMAN!!We then shot a round of bikes coming up and then a Mass Buell Parade! After this we went down the hill further and found another turn without the Apex shade to try and get better lighting.Being that this was the first time doing this I found I needed to do alot more scouting on this hill since most of the turns face the wrong way for even lighting at this time of the day.
The Buellers then did the same drill and we were getting better results untill my setup failed and we needed to resort to the backup Camera..(sorry guys!)But everyone got a lot of practice on the hill and Joanne saved my butt while Tom(Reining in the doggies)Reindog did an awesome job of aiming the masses the correct way.THANKS TOM!!
We then headed back up the hill to Mom's Kitchen and amidst food and talk we printed out some 5x7's on the Portable Printer so's some folks had something to take home with them.I wasn't very pleased with my results but practice makes perfect so NOW I have an excuse to spend a LOT MORE TIME on the Mountain!!(Bummer hah!!)I must say in closing that everyone of you folks makes me a real proud person to be in such GREAT COMPANY!Please , lets do this again...minus the incident... soon!
And one last special thanks to the real Star of the day..JOANNE LIGHTON!...she has a way of making everyone feel special and at ease all the time!(please forgive me for bossing you around...I tend to do that under pressure!....
PS...The man we tried to borrow the gas can from was none other than Mister Meyers....the Inventor of the Meyers Manx...and he was in a brand new version of the Manx(I forget the version)with a KILLER TURBO WRX motor scareing all his friends!!Did anyone take a picture??? Please post it if you did! So....on with the day!

Putting things in perspective after sitting all day at the keyboard in the lowlands of San Diego... sitting around at Mothers on top of Palomar on a beautiful day with 100% healthy riders is not too shabby.

We tend to gush in our prose but when you think about it for a couple of picoseconds... Joanne really is a monster of helpfulness, niceness, and possessive of a caring spirit. Thank you for all you did on and off the mountain.

Shameless plug to follow --> this is one reason to consider American Sport Bike in the many ways that they can convert your Buell from an ordinary blank canvass to something that will make Erik Buell jealous. Al and Joanne are just simply phenomenal people who care not only about Buells but even more about the people who ride Buells. Oops sorry... I am not getting paid for this but I feel really strongly about what I just wrote.

Ebear... more pictures?

And to our new participants... keep participating! We really liked having you in our family.

Hi Ebear, nice writeup of the (busy) day you guys had. It cracks me up to hear that Jen & I won stuff when we weren't even there. Oh well, I hope you donated it back in for everyone's benefit.

I'll bet it was a real treat meeting Bruce Meyers, the legendary Father of the Dune Buggy
Father Bruce
He is making a great comeback with the new Manxter.

I met him and the dune buggy club at the Knotts Kit Car Show last month. A real likable and humble person, it's hard to believe that he and his dune buggy set a record for cars in Baja which started the Baja 1000 off-road race some 40 years ago. BTW, that orange Manx SR with the doors up on pg 3 of that article is much better looking than mine.

(this is from Joanne) Thanks guys for the kind words, now you're making me blush... Ebear- don't worry - you weren't overbearing, I appreciate good leadership, and I know how to let someone know if a boundary has been crossed. That's really cool about Mr. Meyers, Sparky - I had no idea! The extra cool thing about him was that when I asked him if we could use his gas can, he didn't hesitate - he jumped right out to help. He was out on a Sunday drive with his family (sweet baby granddaughter!), but was willing to help total strangers at the drop of a hat. How cool is that? People like that restore my faith in people and keep me going sometimes.

So, it sounds like there is a story or two about last Sunday's ride that nobody's telling, even though there were snippets of the ending with Motrin, bike off the mountain, emergency and gas can revealed.

Sounds interesting, but what happened or should that not be asked? Just the facts, please.

Sparky, It's safe to say I had a bit of a mishap and after further evaluation of the bike, looks like the ins co will total it. Not sure on that one or not yet, but either way I will be fixing it myself and of course upgrading things at the same time.

In a nutshell I was riding to fast around a turn and low sided into a guard rail. Everyone that saw it figured I should maybe be dead or in a hospital at least but I honestly only had a sore wrist. There are some pics to the bike on the link that was posted by Rhino.

I was following Ebear earlier in the ride and I think I got in a comfort zone of a steadily fast pace. It was then time to take pics so off he went while I followed Shawn. I got ahead of myself and was going to fast and down I went.

What did I learn? Slow down and learn the roads prior to using the right side wrist a little to much. I think that about explains everything.

All in all a great day because i got to see what a great bunch of folks belong to SoCal BRAG. And Jack has shown an interest in going to the Rock Store on Sunday. Turns out I had my weekends mixed up and I need to do the Rock Store on Saturday instead? Anyone else interested? Perhaps we could meet near the 405, or even back at the Chevron at Cherry and Artesia at 8AM. 405 to the 10 and PCH, then PCH north to pickup northen LA bunch at the Chevron at Sunset and PCH at 9AM? Would we be the LBCB (Long Beach Crew Buellers)? LuBCluB? Call me at 562-743-0111 or email me at calidrew at charter dot net or scammona at saxonmtg dot com.

Cheers (sorry Jack)

I would love to take U'all up on the ride to the Rock Store (being that I live near Sunset and PCH), but I will be on a plane to SF to see the Dodgers beat the Giants. Anyhow, let's do it again soon sometime.

We should do a PCH/Rock Store to Ventura HD Buell/150 to Ojai, 33 to Lockwood Valley Rd. to Fraiser Park and back to LA. That is a fun day indeed.

So I decided after living in San diego for 4 monthes I would move to Tempe, AZ and let me tell you...F that. It was to hot and I only lasted a week. Couldn't ride the bike and be even the slightest bit comfortable. So technically I'm still real new to the area and am looking for many new roads and rides to go check out. I've done the julian ride. I've ridden 79 and 78 which are awesome. I live in the ocean beach area. I'm down to ride 30 miles or so just to get to where the good roads are. Any suggestions with good directions would be awesome or if anyone wants to meet up and ride, I'm down.
