Other ride thoughts. 6-30 through 7-5 the Tall ships will be in Morehead City/Beaufort, on the water. I'd like to see them.

I'm with you. I'd love to see the tall ships. I think Carlos and I will actually be available that weekend, but will have at least 2 little ones in tow.

Kristi, that sounds like a fun plan. I have my kids that weekend, so I have to figure out the logistics but we can probably work that out.

Some Holes Can't Be Plugged

I came home today, opened my garrage, and there sits my Uly with a flat tire. This is the same tire that I replaced because it too had gone flat. I'm never going to figure out tire life at this rate. This one has only been on the bike for something like 6 weeks.

I actually got lucky. I think it's a slow leak because I went for a ride last night and remember thinking that the bike was handling poorly. I almost rode over to Asheville today to see my Mom. I'd have really hated to discover this leak 200 miles from home. At least this way I'm not walking on the side of the road.

Mark is comming over tonight with his magic plug kit and can of air.

Jim N. I understand Jim, my new rear Strada has a cut in it that goes 2/3 around the tire. It is perfectly straight and I think the tire is separating.

Mike - Sounds like fun but I have things planned for the weekend, maybe next time.

JimN - just let us know. Carlee will probably ride with Carlos that weekend. I'll hang out here at home with Luke. Baylee will be with my Mom.

We'll wing the rest of it! Once we know how many people will be here we'll work out the rest of the details.

So far, its us, you, Rainey and Mark (Webe). If we need to, we can set up the big tent and put an air mattress in Luke's room.

NAnce, I'm not sure where I'm going yet cuz my wife wants me to help her at a horse show Sunday. If I do that, then a TN tip is out. I've got to be in Charlotte at 8:30 a.m., then I'll leave there about noon and I'm not sure where I'm going. I'll have my cell though. I've got your number from the Daytona trip. Ride safe!

I have been told by some people that on Wed. each week a bunch of bikes meet up just north of Charlotte and they go on various rides. I rode up there yesterday but could not find anyone. It did rain, maybe it scared them off. Or Maybe I am looking in the wrong place. Has anyone heard of it?

Carlos and I were talking about doing a ride Memorial Day Weekend and catching some of the ferry rides down by the water.

Say WHAT?!?! Memorial Day Weekend? No chaperon to Cincinati on my way to Homecoming this year? Maybe I will have to swing by a see Dave in Indiana. How far did you/he say it was again?

I guess if we don't resolve this over the 'net, we will take care of it during the meeting on Saturday...

Rubberdown-
Thanks for the heads up! I PM'ed Tom_b last night, but haven't received any response as of yet.

Brankin - Dave & Letta are only about 1 1/2 hours west of Cincinnati. Instead of going through the city and heading north to my Dad's place, you will head west on 74 towards Indy. Carlos can give you detailed directions to Cincinnati and probably onto Dave's house. Do you have their new numbers?

Mike - After reading your post, I think I may have misunderstood our phone call. Did you want to come to Asheville tomorrow? And ride around tomorrow afternoon? That would work great. Riding on Saturday is more iffy, but it might work. We can work out the details tomorrow.

Ulywife,

1.5 hours west of Cincinnati? It's a pretty small world I'm thinking,,,I got a ton of relatives littering that part of the Indiana,,,,starting in Lawrenceburg, Milan, Elrod, Brookville, Liberty, Connersville, and Cambridge City,,,that's some funny stuff.

Dave & Letta are in Shelbyville IN. Both of their parents live in Cincinnati, so it's as close as they could get while still keeping a job!

It is a small world. You never know when you're going to meet someone that knows your family. It pays to always behave!

We are BAD!

Rubberdown and I are here in Asheville at my Mom's place. We have had one hell of an adventure. Mike came over to my Mom's place this afternoon and we rode all over creation. He showed me twisty roads and gravel roads. Then we headed up the parkway to Mt. Mitchell. I was going around a curve within sight of the mountain when the plug in the tire let go.

So I pulled over to the side of the road and waited. Mike came back in a couple of minutes. He had a plug kit and some CO2 canisters. He had owned the plug kit for 2 years and never used it. I, on the other hand, have extensive experience with this brand of plug kit. We get it plugged and Mike inflates the tire. We have just enough CO2 to get the tire rideable. Then we slice off the back of the plug and get ready to go. Until we notice the plug slowly sinking into the tire. It pops in and air starts hissing out. Mike, like the little Dutch boy, sticks his finger over the hole and tells me to stick another plug in. I get the plug ready while Mike's holding in the air. I get it in there w/o letting any air out. We decide not to cut this plug off. We are home now and the plug is still holding. We are officially badass bikers now.

Mike & JimN - sounds like you two had fun even with the tire issue. Due to the nasty weather last night, the Uly didn't get loaded for me to take to Jacksonville, so I guess it will go next week.

On the other hand, the M2 has a "new" shock on it. Brankin came over and pretty quickly had the shock replaced. Carlos said "it's good". They still have more to do, but this was the most crucial (I think!!). Brankin, thanks for your help.

Don't forget the meeting tomorrow (Sat, 5/20/06) at Shelton's HD/Buell in Goldsboro. Carlos and Brankin should be there and ready to meet by 11 a.m.

My politically active g/f just sent this to me.

GOV. EASLEY PROCLAIMS MAY MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH

Raleigh - Gov. Mike Easley today proclaimed May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month to remind both motorcyclists and motorists of the importance of motorcycle safety and sharing the road. Spring and summer are popular times for motorcyclists on North Carolina’s highways.

“More than 285,000 North Carolinians ride motorcycles on our highways, as do thousands of riders from outside North Carolina that travel through our state,” Easley said. “Motorists should be mindful to share the road with motorcyclists and, in turn, motorcyclists should take care to obey helmet and traffic laws and make themselves visible to other drivers. Both drivers and riders heeding the traffic laws will ensure safety on our roadways.”

While motorcycles represent 1 percent of all registered vehicles in North Carolina, they account for nearly 9 percent of all traffic fatalities, according to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System. North Carolina has more than 145,000 registered motorcycles and 285,000 licensed drivers who have either a motorcycle endorsement or a motorcycle learner’s permit.

The following tips will help motorcyclists and motorists travel more safely:

# Always wear a helmet. It is the law in North Carolina. A motorcycle rider not wearing a helmet is five times more likely to sustain a critical head injury than a helmeted rider.

# Be visible at all times. This includes wearing bright or reflective clothing.

# Share the road. Motorcyclists have the right to a full lane.

# Stay alert. Be aware that motorcycles can be easily hidden in a car’s blind spot; take an extra moment to thoroughly check traffic when changing lanes.

# Keep a safe distance. Do not tailgate and allow more following distance behind motorcycles.

# Be cautious. Be aware that turn signals on a motorcycle do not turn off automatically, and some riders may forget to turn them off after a turn or lane change.

For more information regarding motorcycle safety, call Beth Horner with the Governor's Highway Safety Program at 919-733-3083, or visit www.ncdot.org/secretary/ghsp.

Home! Great trip. Loads of fun with Nance & Co. I took Jim down the Ox Creek Plunge and up the Paint Fork corkscrew. Two of the most knarley sections of road known to man. It was great! Twig, nope didn't. Met Nanace in ASheville instead. Let's plan on going to the Trials Champs next year.

Hey Twig - Oh Mike and I thought it was great. This morning we were discussing the fact that no one here understands how awsome we are.

Mike didn't get to the trials. He wanted to help his wife on Sunday, which didn't leave trial time. But I think he had a good time anyway. I certainly did. We spent this morning in a motorcycle shop getting new tires for my bike, and this afternoon riding home via "the scenic route." I just got home.
