Lornce (or any other Buell suspension guru's),

My rear showa shock has turned into a pogo stick and I am going to replace it with a Works , unless I hear something different. If I am replacing it I want to make sure I get the best shock for my money. I believe I have the longer version. Is there a reason Buell went to a shorter length shock ? Is it better, more reliable...? I read somewhere that the front mount for the shorter shock is stronger. Is my mount prone to failure ? If it makes a difference I'd rather order my Works shock in the optimum length, and replace the front mount if necessary to match. Any theories, ideas, facts appreciated.

Cheers,
Brett

I believe these guys will make you a shock.

And there even Canadian, albeit being French...

I have a shock (a freebie from Snider when mine blew) from my X1 you can have if it'll work.

Oh yeah.....I've got the front motor mount too. That piece will cost you though, as I'm parting out my X1 : (

Brett,
Relax, I don't think your front shock mount is going to break anytime soon. You may be thinking of front muffler mounts?

Bruno, the guy who does BMW machine work, is also rebuilding BMW Showa shock units. He asked me a while back for a Buell shock to dismantle for exploration and rebuild etc, but I never got round to giving him my spare. I'd feel confident letting him handle a rebuild if I were you. He's a good guy and he knows what he's doing and how to make things happen.

I know Showa units aren't supposed to be rebuildable.... Bruno's doing them anyway. Better than new when he's finished, too.

http://www.brunos.us/

IMHO, I think you'd find the Works Perf unit a tad uncomfortable. I like it on the track bike, but it was brutal on the street.

What're you boys doing later today? I'll be busy this morning but may be able to goof off later in the afternoon. Coffees in Campbelville or Belfountain?

Weather's gonna be beautiful today, turning cold and wet tomorrow.... Like my old Scotts journeyman used to say when I was an apprentice - "You've got to strike when the puddin's hot!" : )

The X1 is a dead. I put a bullet in that horse back in January. The frame was damaged in such a way the the bike had to be diassembled in order to fix it. Its worth more to me in bits & pieces, so that's how its getting sold. It'll help fund the Triumph Sprint ST I've been eyeing for awhile.

Anyone want any X1 pieces? Highlights include:

Race ECM
D&D full exhaust system
Storz Performance billet pegs

and basically everything else besides:

Handle bars and controls
Forks & tree
Wheels & brakes
Engine

Hopefully I'll see you boys sometime this fall.

Lornce, Unfortunately I'm stuck at work for the day, but myself and the Mikes are meeting for coffee at the Starbucks on the corner of Bloor & Grenview @ 6pm. Thats just around the corner from MG's place....

Caboose, I hope that you're OK!? It sounds serious... As for the Sprint ST, why get that when you can have the Battlestar Galactica!?

Lornce,

Bite your tongue and shame on you! The chopper craze will be the end for used Buells. Makes selling parts easy though ;)

K,

I nearly put my money down on a Battlestar when they first came out. Tour de' Force for sure, but it seems a little long. How do it handle?

Is this what your new leathers look like?

Exactly! Except my outfit has a BIG spike coming out of the top of my helmet

It handles like a dream, especially if you get ESA. My only complaint about the bike is that it has TOOO much power! You can so easily get yerself in A LOT of trouble (both physical & provincial ). No dissing the Triumph though, that's a sweet bike too...

Hi Everyone,
New Southern Ontario Buell owner here. Am located in the Hamilton/Waterdown area. Do you folks ever get together for rides? And would you mind a newbie Bueller tagging along?

"Caboose, I hope that you're OK!? It sounds serious... "

Nothing quite that dramtic. The rear header of the D&D pipe (which as part of my pre-ride inspection, was always tight) rubbed a hole in my frame. Fixable, but it gives me an excuse to get a new bike ;) .

Caboose,

I'll take the shock if it works on my bike, and if I need the front mount to make it work I'll buy that too ! Also interested in the race ecm if it works on my bike (98 S3T carb).

Thanks !

Orest,
Rides usually happen with short notice posted here, and more the merrier. Be good to meet you.

Brett,
Don't think that race ecm would have much to say to your carbed bike. ;)

If the shock works, I'll take my blown one to Bruno and see what he says.

Cheers,

Weather's not looking too bad for tomorrow, think I'll head out to Picton for the day.

If any SOB's are interested, an Airhead buddy of mine is having an open house at his Vintage BMW shop in Milford, near Picton in Prince Edward County (Bay of Quinte area).

I'll prolly leave Hamilton 08:00ish.

Lornce: great riding with you again, look forward to seeing you and everyone else at the tech day. Hit reserve after I left you -222 miles. Made it all the way back to Picton at 255 miles and still had gas in the bottom of the tank. Haven't calculated the mileage out yet.

Caboose: I measured my shock eye to eye with bike on center stand-16.25 inches. Is that the same as your shock ? Any chance of picking up the shock sometime convenient for you (if it will work)? Can't have Lornce out-cornering my Buell on his dirt bike !

Eyelet centre to centre measurement of my shock is 14-3\4" appoximately midway in the preload adjustment. If you want to swing by and check it out, give me a call.
