James,

I'll track you this Sundy if I am not helping Tim and Candice set-up (sounds like they have enough help though I offered) If you want to set up a ron day voo, I can meet you and ride in together.

Chris was thinking that the schedule is switched from last year - maybe because the "Big" event came late, folks bitched??? I re-checked the fax and the sequence of races is still as posted here. If we are waiting til the last race, and if that is already pushing sunset, that gets ugly for Jim, James and Ferris.

Steve, riding in the dark isn't the end of the world, just something i try to avoid when i can :)

i'd like to stay and cheer Matty (and Vik, and BuDu Bob, and...) on, regardless of when their races may start -- in the scheme of things, it's a relatively short ride from Willow to Ferrisville.

what say you and i plan on meeting somewhere in Tehachapi sometime that morning and then i can follow you in to Harley's?

I'll need to duck out of Willow by 2pm-ish for the long trek West. No worries. This has become more of a meet & greet / track day than riding anyway. Which is fine. Since I've never been to a vehicular race of any kind this should be interesting...

Ferris,

Meeting in Tehachapi is a plan on the 16th, then. I would like to get the others' take on a good time for Harleys. Seems unfair for me to recommend a time because I only live 10 min away. (though if I am going to Harleys via Tehachapi, I guess that puts me an hour away)

I am good for early mornings - my get-up time is 0400 and I don't sleep in on weekends

Steve, we can meet up at the Shell station at the bottom of ACH. Let me know if you're going to be able to make it and we can set a time.

holy smokes, Jim, is that even legal??? i'm thinkin' you need to get out more... ;)

Steve, how about 0730 in Tehachapi, at the Chevron station on the east outskirts of town (the one just off 58, next to the very north end of Teh/Willow Springs Rd.)?

we can gas-up, maybe grab a quick cuppa, then rendezvous with some/most of the rest of the gang at _____ a.m. at Harley's?

Ferris, I've got 2 daughters (teenagers now) and I try to spend time with them. And of course I'm more of a 'doer' than a 'watcher'. Meaning generally I'd rather ride than watch someone else ride. It will be good for me to see how real riders do it. ;)

James, I can meet you this Sunday (9th). We ought to make it so we can be back up at Tim and Candice's by 9 (or pretty near)

We are possibly going to do a short local ride after the party but there is nothing set in stone there.

Ferris, I can meet you up in Tehachapi on Sunday the 16th. Let's see how the Harley's timing is coming along. Tim and Candice want to meet us all at Harleys. I'll call them (they don't check this board much) and see if they have a starting preference. I am leaning toward late-ish breakfast timeframe but am wide open to suggestions - Willow is only 15 min from home so I am really willing to be very flexible around everybody else's time constraints.

Steve, you know the route better than I do, how long is it going to take to get to Tim and Candice's by 9? I'm guessing 45min to and hour. If that's the case, I can meet you at eight.

James,

8 O'clock meeting will be just fine. I need to make sure I know where you are talking about - the Shell station at the 210/ACH area?? I am thinking my memory has it there.

I just finished installing my rearsets so it'll be fun to play. A couple of the local guys are talking about another short ride early afternoon so if we haven't totally trashed Tim and Candice's house to where we need hours to help cleanup, maybe we can do one short one right in the early PM so you can head home before it gets late/dark/cold.

Keep fingers crossed, could be a nice weekend.

Steve,

That's the Shell station that I'm talking about. See you there at 8.

As far as a PM ride, that would be great, I wouldn't mind being home for dinner either.

Guys, the Shell station at the intersection of ACH (Route 2) and the 210 Freeway is the de facto meeting place for the bulk of riders heading up ACH from LA. It's also the last chance for gas until you're on the other side.

Perfect meeting spot just South of the freeway on the East side of the street.

If you go there early on a Sat. or Sun. morning the place is literally filled with bikes gassing up. Many also gas up on the way down. That place does a brisk business with bikers.

Only drawback is the porta potties on the side of the building...

Hey guys,

I'll be doing Jerry Johnson's SoCal Buell weekend thing in Oceanside today & tomorrow. Idyllwild, De Luz Rd, S3, who knows what else. Too many roads, not enough time. Have fun.

Hey James,

I'll see you tomorrow at 8 at the Shell and we'll run up and over to the Daytona Party.

Nobody has set anything in stone for an afternoon ride but a few of us have said we'd probably do SOMETHING. Be a shame to waste a good afternoon on the couch.

Dang, with the warm weather the last couple days, I'd swear the season is almost upon us!

We sort of decided on 9:30 as a breakfast time here at Harley's Rock House for this Sunday's ride to Willow. There are quite a few folks interested in going and 9:30 is early enough without forcing Jim and Ferris to get up spectacularly early.

We can see what the mood is at breakfast and plan the route there. The consensus is that it'd be fun to see a fair amount of the races and maybe hang with some of the others trackside.

Hope the weather holds.

I am still without a rear wheel with functional bearings. 2 new ones have arrived at Glendale Buell, both had frozen bearings. Matty is waiting on #3 to arrive. The factory is supposed to check it prior to shipment this time. If it comes in I'll get my tire mounted up Sat. and join you all. If not, c'est la vie.

Dang Jim! All the luck...

We are going to be having a pretty casual day of it Sunday, no killer long rides - probably just a local loop (though I'll be meeting Ferris up in Tehachapi) -

Another question: anybody here want to do Thunderhill with us on 12-13 May? It's going to be fun - looks like might be Matty, Ernie, Tim, Candice, me. This is a Pacific Track Time 2-day. Get special prices for both days but it is a Monday and Tuesday. If anybody wants to share a ride up, let me know because I may be going solo (trailering or maybe rent a van and camp in the thing)

I hope to get some frigging tires mounted for track day Monday on Streets - I can't make Friday with WSMC.

Steve, depending on a couple of developing game plans, i may opt to meet you Sunday morning in Mojave as opposed to Tehachapi (so i can zip over and down on 178 and 14 instead of navigating Ferris Trail in the pre-dawn darkness), or POSSIBLY just meet you guys at the Rock House at 0930.

will let you know mo'betta as the week progresses, and will commit to one plan or another by Thursday or Friday :)

Jim, wussup with your wheel bearings? i'm having a hard time imagining what could be so serious it's got your bike laid up...

ride to lean,

Hi Ferris, here's the Reader's Digest version....

Had spun bearings in rear Marchesini a few months back. Pulled wheel. Had it professionally sleeved (pics are on Badweb). New bearings installed. A-Okay. Paint job got mucked up so I repainted it myself (not so good, I shoulda had Timbo do it). No matter. Bike was good.

A week or so later I was riding up on Figueroa Mountain in SB County. Super tight little goat trail type road. Came around a very tight right hander and the road was washed out. Or it was the biggest pothole in SB County. Or a burial site. Not sure which.

Couldn't stop so I jumped up on the pegs and went through there like Jeremy McGrath. No worries.

Except now the front wheel has the tiniest imperfection in the rim (only visible when you spin the wheel on a lift, when it stops you can't see it), and a really nice, large dent in the rear wheel. ;)

As Timbo said, that rear wheel just wanted off my bike.

So Matty convinced me we could get a new Castalloy (half the price of a replacement Marchesini) and toss it on there. Direct bolt on.

1st wheel came to my house. All 3 bearings were frozen. Took it back to Matty. Waited. Got another. All 3 bearings frozen. Would not budge no matter what.

So Matty sent that back as well. He called the factory and told them to check the wheel before they sent it this time. We're still waiting.

Think the machine that presses in the bearing is pushing a little too hard?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch I've been riding the S2 with dented rear wheel as I wanted to get my use out of the M-1 on there. Well I did and then some. It's now bald. Even Matty of all people was making fun of it up in Ojai and I've been riding more since then. I'm afraid I'll have cords showing before I could get to Willow.

I have the new tire waiting, just need the new wheel to complete the deal.
